No, there haven't been any intelligent pro-gun arguments, because there aren't many, and people with enough intelligence to make them don't post here. I have some very smart friends who are gun-owners, and who are very worried that the backlash against Newtown might see their rights to own small arms impinged, and I think they're right to worry that an inappropriate knee-jerk solution might make it into the light. Actually, it's from these people that I've heard the broadest arguments in terms of the American wild-west culture of violence needing changing. I've never heard such a conversation go on between them and the more liberal people I know including myself - I'm actually more hopeful than I thought I was that - certainly within the society I keep - there isn't just a furor, entrenched positions and mud-slinging that gradually fades away, like every other time a serious issue needs tackling in America.
- YES there has. You just dont agree with them so you're not understanding their point.CygnusZero4
- No, it's that I do understand them, and they don't understand the counter-arguments.I... not stupid. Dude.mikotondria3
- haha, but that sounded stupid, because the qbn script ran my words together. Actually I am a bit stupid. Quite a lot.mikotondria3

And so it continues... :(
Two volunteer firefighters have been shot dead and two injured while responding to an emergency call in the town of Webster in New York state.

America glorifies violence. Gun control. I think not, monitoring the FDA, the games that are sold, tv shows etc... If our government continues to separate itself from "the people" then people will feel a need to protect themselves from its own government.
Don't think that there are not people in America willing to die or the government is willing to kill for "their beliefs".
All of it is just sad.
- do you think you have a chance to fight a SWAT team?zaq
- or the....er....what are they called, that group of armed people the Govt. has....oh yes -
The Army. That's it. Them ?mikotondria3 - talk to and gun nut , that is what NRA wants, every american deserves access to same guns as our government.teh
- personally I think guns are for cowards.teh

I don't like the NRA, and I'm not really a fan of guns at all. The only thing I worry about, is if there ever was a ban on guns, and you have a situation where a riot ensues, innocent people will also be defenseless to a mob of people throwing rocks and bottles en masse.
http://framework.latimes.com/201…
Small Korean business owners living in K-town during the LA Riots would be a pretty good case example. I'm not saying nothing should be done about the regulation of firearms, but arguing for a complete ban will prove disastrous as well.
- yup. bad guys will always get guns.ebertzjaw
- the genie is oot the bottle, likeebertzjaw
- During the last riots in London, different minority groups living there protected themselves using bats until the armed forces take controlBeeswax
- control. US has stronger police force than UK so I say leave it to them.Beeswax
- LA police did a poor job, thus why this is a good case study. Police do a good job in opulent areas.yurimon
- Beeswax, the police could not protect everyone at the same time, hence a lot of these small business owners ended up having to protect themselves with firearms. It worked.twooh
- protecting themselves and their livelihoods with firearms. It worked.twooh
- taking a shit
http://latimesphoto.…moldero - So your logic is lets all have a gun in case of riot?benfal99
- Self defense is illogical is what your saying?yurimon

Going too far?
A New York newspaper has sparked an acrimonious debate over gun rights and privacy by publishing the names and addresses of thousands of handgun owners in an interactive map.
The Journal News obtained the records of residents with handgun permits under Freedom of Information laws and published them as part of the paper's coverage of the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre, prompting a widespread backlash.
- Eventually these people will have to wear a star of david sown into their jackets.yurimon
- Its public info but I wonder if you did that to another group like fishing or driving license will it be privacy issue or hate crime.yurimon
- I dare them to publish different people registered a specific religious group. Those people have a right to their religion. why not.yurimon
- So gun ownership is a RELIGION now?! you are truly delusionallocustsloth
- Your trying to turn words into your own delusions. Its Right just like any other right. move if you dont like it.yurimon
- Maybe north korea by the beach.yurimon

What scares me the most is all these people that think they'll "protect" themselves/businesses/whatever by shooting other people.
If/when that happens, I pray that the shooter will be fully prosecuted. This "oh, if the police don't respond to my expectations, I am going to wield a deadly weapon and use it as I see fit" is terrifying.
People can't f'king merge on the highway or enter a Wallmart on Black Friday without almost (and in some cases doing) killing each other, how in fucking hell are they going to "judge" when it is "ok" to open fire on another human.
Further, those people in the mob are, most likely, your neighbors that are pissed off and in some mob mentality.
You really think that shooting strangers in a mob is even remotely logical?! F'ck.
As I keep saying, I'll be the guy who buys the gun to protect myself from these "hero" types. Not scared of mobs, not scared of gangs, not scared of crime, but I am terrified about these folk that think they can evaluate and determine, instantaneously, whether someone else should live or die.
Crazy. F'ckin' insane, really.
- There are some how can use better judgement in those situations http://www.kgw.com/n…locustsloth
- but they are the minority, whom have been trained for such situationslocustsloth
- *some wholocustsloth
- If every situation was a template situation then yes it possible to act the same everytime.but that not life.yurimon
- it's not a matter of every situation needing to be the same. It's being able to adapt to diff situationslocustsloth
- And that's why carrying a concealed firearm without training is ineffective, if not dangerous, for most peoplelocustsloth

- Obama = A potential target.
Average Joe = Not the president of the United States.chossy - Tell that to a crime victim and look them in the eye when you tell them.. we will legislate when or how you are attacked..yurimon
- Follow the following protection protocols: Pray and call 911 if you make it.yurimon
- There are 10x more murders in the US than the UK, there are very few guns in the UK. Change your law.chossy
- US has more people per 100k its almost the same duh.yurimon
- Re-do your maths. This time properly. Work out the percentage of deaths by murder.chossy
- Look up your homicide rate per 100, 000. = 4.2 US v 1.2 UK. etc. etc.chossy
- US has more people per 100k.... makes no sense. More people per 100k of land?chossy
- US is 2-5% to UK 1-3% per 100k
Also depends on where you live. UK has some violent crimes going for itselfyurimon - US is 3 times as more people.
Also you have to account specific areas because some areas have more crime.yurimon - i like the point of this photo.********
- Obama = A potential target.

one thing I've learn lately is that 1st worlder are very fuckn confortable in giving away their rights to defend themselves,
I scratch my head and wonder, where do that confort comes from?A. They never got in a life or death situation
B. They lack a knowledge of world history
C. They just don't care
D. None of the above, they just want the government and criminals (reread this 10x) to be able to fight for them

Funny thing about gun-toting right-wingers in America is they don't budge when it comes to taking away from the enormous US Military's budget. Negotiations are always off the table for them.
And yet, this is the same military that they talk about defending themselves against when tyranny comes knocking at their door.
Americans have funded the military so immensely (allowing soldiers to have unimaginable technology and weaponry) that they now stand absolutely no chance against the forces that could potentially turn against them. Your militias, glocks, shotguns, and assault rifles are not going to do shit. They'd drop a decently sized bomb and blast your entire town up in a second if they wanted to.
It's all pretty ironic and idiotic. If right-wingers and gun-owners really cared about prevention of total governmental tyranny, they'd be FIRST in line to defund the military.
- YES! Cracks me up that they can praise 'men & women in uniform' unconditionally one minute...locustsloth
- .. and then say they need a full stock of weapons to defend against the forces our govt would set against us...locustsloth
- as if they were two separate groups of peoplelocustsloth
- on intelligence test the right-wingers would place somewhere between "moron" and "imbecile." is it really surprising that they don't comprehend any facts?pr2
- ...surprising that they don't comprehend any facts?pr2
