Libertarian activist and radio host Adam Kokesh is hoping to get 1,000 people to march on Washington on July 4 — armed with loaded rifles. The plan, launched with a Facebook group today, is to gather on the Virginia side of the Potomac, where gun laws are lax, and then march across the bridge with loaded rifles slung over their shoulders into the District, where openly carrying weapons is generally prohibited.
“This will be a non-violent event,” the Facebook group warns, “unless the government chooses to make it violent.” Already, over 200 people have said they’ll attend the march.

today I heard on the news that guns killed more people than cars last year in Washington state for the first time in something like 80 years.

how very interesting. The numbers for the above statistic are comparing 1993 to 2011. The article says 1993 was the most recent peak. If you look at graphs for the interim, you'll see that at or shortly after 1993, guncrime took a dramatic nosedive until around 200 and has gone up slightly since.
i'm sure it's not related, but the Brady handgun violence prevention act was enacted in 1993.

Police Investigate Fatal West Village Shooting As Hate Crime
A man was shot and killed in the West Village last night and police are investigating the incident as a hate crime.
It happened around midnight at Sixth Avenue and West 8th Street, outside of Gray's Papaya restaurant.
Police say a 32-year-old man was shot once in the head. He was rushed to Beth Israel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Yes locust, also gun crime fell for 7 years, and has steadily risen for 14 years. Nowhere near as high as 1993 but it has risen steadily for 14 years.

I can't see how the above story (Santa Monica) could possibly say this wasn't inspired by video games. Hijacked a car w/ an AR-15, proceeded to start shooting at everything, kill 4 before he was killed.
Wait until some genius creates a first person shooter for Google glass...we'll see 'games' that are 'live', then we'll see massacres based on them.
What a fucked up world. Just gonna get worse and worse, everyone will have a gun to "protect" themselves from all the nut jobs snap and start shooting. Most are capable of this, if pushed far enough, encouraged, drugs, depression, whatever.
The numbers will keep growing...until we are all dead or there are no more guns (and visual stimuli to encourage the 'thrill' of shooting at everything).

Now that either means guns are a massive problem in the US or the country and some form of gun control is needed, or the country has an inbred culture of violence.
