My bf is from Moncton, his family there says the city is on lockdown because of the shooter. Schools are closed, people have been told not to leave their homes.

It's crazy how tv wants you to accept that there's nothing we can do about these random shootings. Jon Stewart once again, a comedian giving an honest perspective of what is going on...
isn't that CRAZY? a comedy show is more trust worthy than the actual news.. THAT BLOWS MY MINDJump to 2:20

Seattle university gunman, One killed, two wounded!
GO MURICA GO!

A Las Vegas couple who gunned down two police officers and a civilian before killing themselves apparently looked at law enforcement as oppressors, a sheriff's department official said Monday.
Among the clues: a "Don't Tread on Me" flag and a Nazi swastika the couple placed on one of the police officers they ambushed Sunday at a pizza restaurant. They also pinned onto the officer's body a note saying something to the effect of "this is the beginning of the revolution," Second Assistant Sheriff Kevin McMahill told reporters.
- It was the beginning, then they went to Walmart and committed suicide. Cool revolution, bro.CygnusZero4
- Having guns on their person certainly helped those police officers defend themselves.hereswhatidid
- Maybe if they had guns stashed under all the tables at the restaurant this could have been avoided.hereswhatidid
- hey guys! we should do it too! meet you at wal-mart!sarahfailin
- Only if the cameras in the restaurant had guns mounted to them.utopian

With these last two, the Seattle Pacific University and the Cici's Pizza/Walmart killers. Despite being in public places, armed civilians notably failed to stop the killers. The SPU killer was subdued by a kid with mace, however, who's being called a hero. The Walmart killers shot a man who tried to approach them w/ a concealed weapon.
Not that many here need much convincing, but yet again, the prevalence of firearms in the US seems more much more implicated in *creating* shooting danger rather than preventing it. Derp.
- the man didn't know the woman was in on it, walked right in front of her and she...cbass99
- ...saw the civilian going toward her husband..he had no chance.cbass99
- which is why saying that if more people had guns this could be avoided is bullshithereswhatidid

Sounds like they were the typical anarcho-capitalist gun nuts who thought the world was gonna end or the U.S. is on the verge of turning into a fascist police state. You will see people like this all over the internet, the difference was that they actually took actions proportional to their beliefs.
- Yep. And so the institutions took appropriate actions against the nuts.monospaced

I'd love to see ONE state ban guns in some manner. (Either law-enforcement-only, or special-forces-only, or a complete ban.)
They'd need a bit more security on their border, but not that much.
The first benefit is they could act as a safe haven for Americans who are sick of this bullshit. They could say, "Hey, Americans, we're the state that banned guns. If you don't want to be gunned down by your fellow American, you can move here."
The second and larger benefit is that all the bullshit that gun lobbyists spit about "government take over" and "just in case we need them" and "what about home invasions" would be proven to be untrue. In a couple years we'd have statistical evidence showing a lower crime rate, less violent crime, less people going to prison, and far less murdered children. The gun lobby would adjust their argument, of course, but at least much of their "you should be very very afraid at all times" argument would be gone.
I'd bet other states would follow suit, and quickly. Similar to what will happen with marijuana legalization.
- It'd be difficult because the other states (and the NRA) would lobby that it's unconstitutional.nb
- You'd have Texas and Arizona and all those fuckers arguing that states shouldn't be allowed to do whatever they want. Lulz.nb

- well, the fact that there's the 2nd amendment keeps states from doing that pretty effectively.sarahfailin
- Yes, but the supreme court interprets the constitution. Some gun control exists, so my idea could potentially fit within the 2nd amendmentnb
- It'd be a SUPER difficult battle. But, it's also time for America to realize that the constitution was designed to allow for amendments.nb
- I still haven't heard any actual reason why we can't ban high capacity magazineshereswhatidid
- amendments. There is nothing stopping the supreme court from allowing one state to place strict controls on guns.nb
- nobody would ever be violent of harm one another if guns didn't existJG_LB
- JGLB: While your sentence didn't make any sense, I assume you're making the argument that people would still be victims of violence.nb
- ...violence. And ZOMG THAT IS A STUPID FUCKING ARGUMENT.nb

- Actually, yeah, finding the existence of extraterrestrials would be an amazing side benefit!!!nb

WTF! I live directly between this latest school shooting in Troutdale and the Clackamas Mall shooting that happened 2 Christmas ago.

Let's give the gun nuts what they want: you can keep and bear arms so long as you are a part of an active and regulated militia: as in you have to sign up for active duty in the army. Only then.
- How about, everyone who cheer lead for a war should sign up to go fight in it?GeorgesII
- that, toomonkeyshine
