Apple Admits its Computers are Broken
https://theoutline.com/post/5052…
Apple admitted to its customers that its MacBook and MacBook Pro keyboard designs are so flawed and prone to sticking or dead keys, as originally reported by The Outline in October, and that it will cover the cost of repairs beyond the products’ normal warranty. The admission comes after the company has been hit with no fewer than three class action lawsuits concerning the computers and their ultra-thin butterfly-switch keyboards.
- dang, consider me lucky as I've never had an issue with any of my macbook pros.kona
- The keyboards prior to these were perfect. Why change them? Because of 2mm of thinness that no one gives two fucks about?section_014

Well, Apple finally upgraded their MBP's to the 8th gen Intel CPU's a year after everyone else. Not all of them, of course. Just the one's that start at $1,800 dollars. The "cheaper" 13" models have the 7th gen still.
The 13" get the i5, and the 15" gets the i7. I believe that's what it was previously.
Still not worth it, imo. My 13" Dell 7000 is $1000 less expensive than the comparable MBP, and it has the better i7 CPU. No thunderbolt 3 port though.

How are you supposed to search for a podcast in iTunes? There's no ability to filter by date for example. You just get a bunch of results and no way to filter. Same goes for music etc.
- maybe it works if you buy apple music?mekk
- Their Podcast app and music app are horrible.mg33
- Click the magnifying glass. then choose Search entire library. Then your results will be broken down within a drop down list. lol. Not so hard /sSquiddy
- ^ I get that, I want to then drill down through the results - filter date for example, or at least order results by date. not possible.shapesalad

New MBPs are nice, I hope butterfly keyboard gen 3 gets rid of the issues some users had. I barely use my keyboard on the previous model since at work I use an external keyboard + mice.

Apple Is Getting Out of the Printing Business
Jul 12, 2018
Apple has been selling photo prints and books through the Photos (previously iPhoto) app for many years. But the company is exiting this business in the fall.
- mekk0
So you can now configure the 15" MacBook Pro with a 4TB SSD and 32GB Ram, hitting close to the $8k mark.
- aaaaand hardware is, like always, one gen behind :-Dmekk
- 8th gen Xeon and internal 4GB SSD on a mobile is behind?monospaced
- And you dont really need Xeon at all in first placeBennn
- They use xeons for the sake of marketing so they won't be directly comparable but it's a waste in terms of ROI on performance per $.zarkonite
- and to mekk's point, 8th gen has been out for a long time.zarkonite

- Partition your drive, and install into the partition before committing to a new version. Apple's Disk Utility makes it pretty painless to do.section_014

It's clear the current MBP design can't cope with what Intel is currently offering, my only guess is that Apple was counting with a roadmap Intel couldn't deliver, as in smaller chip fab process so this could run on less power, in any case it's a shame that the CPU throttles under load due to cooling. I wonder if the laptops by other manufacturers using Intel 8th gen suffer from this as well.

I visited the new Apple Park facility last week in California. Checked out their Apple store and then went up to the observation deck to see the view. On the way back down, I was mesmerized by the handrails, missed a step, and wiped the fuck out.

"The good news is, this doesn’t appear to be evidence that Apple’s laptop design is incapable of handling fast chips, but that someone at Apple had a bad day and failed to include a specific digital key that caused a cascade of bad behaviors in some very specific circumstances. (All laptops throttle the performance of processors in order to regulate temperature, of course, but it’s not supposed to happen to anywhere near the extent seen in Lee’s video.)"
