Their fancy speaker isn't selling like they wanted, it kinda makes sense, Siri is the worst voice assistant of the 3 big ones and this thing doesn't connect with other music providers.
- yep, massive fail.
they just hired top Google AI dude to overhaul Siri so perhaps they will start to catch up soon.fadein11 - Why would anyone buy that – you're locked into their infrastructure, their ai isn't as good as either Alexa or Google and for sound quality...Wolfboy
- ... there's a smart Sonos speaker. Apple do good products when they bring something new to an existing table, but this feels totally half arsed.Wolfboy
- Apple first with Siri, but then so slow to innovate. Amazon saw the potential and beat them to it. Now apple trying to claw there way into the market...shapesalad
- Doesn't matter they got billions in the bank. They could pay all their staff $1m and close up shop. Why companies nether exit like this?shapesalad
- Apple bought Siri, they never managed to develop it, and now they've fallen behind.
https://techcrunch.c…zarkonite - If Apple wants any success in this market they need to license out airplay 2 like whores and get it on as many 3rd party devices as possible.monospaced
- The sound is supposed to be incredible. The hardware is fantastic, they just need to get Airplay 2 in order.Gnash
- The whole 'personal assistant' is still at the gimmick stage, anyway.Gnash
- If the assistant is just a gimmick why buy this product? far better gimmick free speakers out there.fadein11
- I think he's saying all personal assistants are at the gimmick stage so far. That I agree with, for the most part.monospaced
- but what's the point of a homepod if it doesn't work properly, just buy a bluetooth/wireless speaker (loads of options).fadein11
- Let's see how it goes but it does seem an odd product right now and the sales figures confirm that.fadein11
- I believe it works very well, actually, and the reviews on the sound are that it's spectacular, especially at how it adjusts to the room.monospaced
- it's certainly got major issues though, specifically with the assistant and the one account it's attached to, and of course its limitation to Apple Musicmonospaced
- yep, massive fail.

So I've been using an iPad with pencil at work for sketching and stuff... I'm still not sure how to handle carrying the pencil around, do any of you have tricks/gadgets?
It's kind of too long and flimsy to store in my pockets, it's not magnetic like the microsoft surface one, and frankly it's too expensive to consider it "expandable"...
- I just toss it in the bag with other pens. Or in the little pen holder pouch in my messenger bag. At home it sits in the pencil jar with all my other drawing stmonospaced
- I have a Killspencer case for the iPad Pro which includes a loop for the pencil which works wellMondoMorphic
- I have a case/bag that I put the iPad in with a zipper. It also has a pocket in the outside for the pencil.ArmandoEstrada

- Hayoth: I've been using Adobe Sketch, it's pretty good at palm detection. I haven't heard any complaints online in the reviews that I read about using the iPadzarkonite

"We don't believe in sort of watering down one for the other. Both [the Mac and iPad] are incredible. One of the reasons that both of them are incredible is because we pushed them to do what they do well. And if you begin to merge the two... you begin to make trade-offs and compromises."
Sure Tim... that's what they say officially but then they go ahead and implement feature after feature across both platforms.

"Apple exits Wi-Fi game, AirPort routers discontinued after stock sells out"
- too bad. I like themGnash
- Kind of obvious. They don't want you to turn your home stereo into an AirPlay device with Airport Express.
HomePod is your AirPlay device now.rafalski - @rafalski, DERP, that makes no sense: AirPlay is built in to tons of A/V receivers and many other devices besides HomePodmonospaced
- I AirPlay to my stereo systems every single day, all day, and have been doing so for at least 6 yearsmonospaced
- long list of well-established hi-fi manufacturers signed up to AirPlay 2.
Naim, Bose, B&O, Devialet, Dynaudio, Bowers & Wilkins, Bluesound, Libraton and Denonmonospaced - You're proving my point listing pricey gear. Airport lets you turn anything, even a set of powered speakers into an AirPlay device (as I'm doing in one room).rafalski
- Now even if there are cheaper Airport capable devices, for many the choice will be either something premium or — Airport Express gone — the HomePod.rafalski
- There’s tons of cheap brands that support airplay. This is for airplay 2 which was just announced. Of course high end is first in line ffs.monospaced
- All I’m saying is that you can use airplay for your audio without having a HomePod or Apple router, and it’s simple as fuck.monospaced

Apple is reportedly making a standalone VR and AR headset with two 8K displays
12
The headset will reportedly be available as soon as 2020- i just want a more affordable pro desktop systemGnash
- And what computer is it going to run on? they sure as fuck don't make computers that can handle VR...zarkonite
- i was going to say the same till i reread “stand alone”LMFAO
- We'll all be dead by then. :-)PhanLo
- if they can't make a computer that can do VR, they're not going to make a miniature version that can! and don't get me started on the double 8k claim ;)zarkonite

- by now i'm sure it's done indexing. Look into Activity Monitor and see if there's some odd background crap going on.Gnash

Anyone else excited for WWDC18?
Can't wait to see what's in store for macOS & improved Siri.
And hopefully some nice upgrades to MacBook Pro's & iPad Pro's.
- Nope, zero fucks.zarkonite

this cunt of a phone just erased all of my passwords. imessages, gmail accounts, apps accounts... everything.
next phone won't be an iphone, I'm over that shit.

- design/technology on a platform that just works. Apple's value prop is gone and that's why google has 80% of the phone market.zarkonite
