Actually, a credit card is ideally paid off in full each month, and is rather than a means of creating debt in people, a means of creating credit in banks. For banks, credit = money, so the more of it they create, the more money the can print, the more money there is in the system, the more money there is for everyone. But in particular for rich people.
Perhaps that means they're more insidious than mere debt vehicles for proles like me. I'm unsure.
- Of course, indebted individuals can get shafted by % payments, so that's cool for The Goldman and Sachs' of the world.Nairn
- i'm not sure that credit cards would be around if everyone paid the cards off at the end of each month.hans_glib
- Those that do pay in full every month get free credit at the expense of the poor sods who get sucked into the debt spiral of silly interest rates.hans_glib
- THAT'S how the banks (and now Apple) make moneyhans_glib
- Sure, they're a money maker, but credit itself is what keeps the entire entire banking industry from imploding.Nairn
- true, but banks don't print moneymonospaced
- it's a figure of speech. "Money is made by credit being added to the system", which equates to banks 'printing' money.Nairn

- I love Apple's new business model, stop selling iPhones and generate more money with interest rates from credit cards.jmckinno

Apple cancels their promised AirPower project and products.
https://techcrunch.com/2019/03/2…Crazy because they are already selling the wireless AirPod charging case with a picture of the AirPower pad on it, which will never come to market.

- They promised the Mac Pro this year. I bet it is announced right before holidays and will ship in 2020.monospaced
- +1 for the MacPro! WTF are they doing over there at Apple anyways? iPhones are OK but what about the powerful machines that built the empire?davey_g

Sell Apple On Its Overpriced, Underwhelming Services

An interesting opinion piece on Apple's latest services presentation...
"In 2017, he [Tim Cook] projected $50B in revenue by 2020, a number that would put Apple Services between #59 Lockheed Martin and #60 AIG on the Fortune 500 list. Given last quarter’s $10.9B, Cook’s prediction is beginning to look conservative."
I personally thought this was the first time in a long time that Apple acted like Apple. Being disruptors instead of just incrementing.
All of these services are designed to disrupt a specific market by redesigning the user experience, which is basically how they've been successful in the past. It's not as impressive as inventing a whole new device like the iPhone, but it's on par with the 1$tracks + iTunes + iPod combination that brought them back to life in early 2000s.

- Funny how this guy just stole Paul Chatos vision straight up months later and just added fancy graphics. Not even a credit to him?monospaced

Assuming Apple is still pursuing the "Apple Car" project I never understood why they never attempted to buy Tesla. Apple has more than enough cash they're sitting on. Why are they piling up so much cash for nothing.
Tesla is so far ahead of anyone right now it will take Apple at least 5-10 years to catch up.
- imho not much innovation and only crappy updates with the same looking models etc. but the most profitable year ever so far. their biz considers it success********
- I'd rather they just make good phones and laptops. this obsession with companies needing to elbow into or invent new product categories is odd.inteliboy
- If a car company, e.g. Skoda, made a laptop, would use it for your work? If they made a phone, would you use it? Why would we want a car from a phone company?shapesalad
- Oh right yeah, apple so good... so good that Huawei has a better camera on their phones, and a Razor blade laptop is better than a MacBook Pro...shapesalad
- I thought they canceled it. Anyway, if they are still on it, it has been 5-10 years already. Based on hiring it seems Apple pimoacher some of Tesla too.monospaced

Is there a USB C hub that gives you more USB C connections!!? Running out of ports here on the MBP2018. Only one I can find is mega $$$$$$
Also, is there a website that explains clearly all the usb cord shit for MBPs (thunderbolt vs usb c vs god knows what) ? It's confusing as heck even trying to buy a USB C cord on Amazon!
- The USB C ports are all the same, and they are all basically thunderbolt display ports also. And yes, USB C hubs are expensive regardless of machine.monospaced
