There should be exciting new stuff at WWDC2020.
Apparently:
- Completely new iMac Redesign with iPad Pro design language (All screen, tiny bezels front design).
- Redesigned, fresh macOS. Which is exciting because there was hardly exciting stuff in the past years.
- iOS/ iPadOS 14
- Some other services related stuff, maybe gaming news, Apple branded game controller, etc.
And most importantly...
- ARM Macs introduction and how Apple plans to transition to their own CPU's in the coming years.

I guess Mac's will use a custom processor based on ARM?
Apple is in essence a consumer company so it doesn't surprise me. Will they be weak chips?? wtf
hold on to your butts :/
- The ARM Cpu's currently in iPad Pro's are super powerful and efficient. Almost as powerful as MBP's yet much more efficient and no fans either.NBQ00
- It makes sense for Apple to make the switch because Intel has sucked for years and stagnated. Apple will be on 5nm ARM cpu's while Intel is still at 10nm chipsNBQ00
- Apple doesn't make their own chips, it's TSMC+Samsung fabbing for them. Everyone has access to the new processes, AMD is shipping 7nm CPUs right now. Apple willzarkonite
- get there as fast as everyone else, it's out of their control really. IBM already has 5nm small scale fabrication in place.zarkonite
- Not true zarko. Apple licenses ARM and designs their own custom chip. Of course the mass production is done by TSMCNBQ00
- Exactly, and the ability to make circuits this small is in the hands of the foundry. They can design anything they want in theory but the real test is inzarkonite
- manufacturing them. They design the machines and test the yields until it's economically viable.zarkonite

Is it worth buying anything to do with Macs before they release the ARM versions? I can just picture me buying this new iMac they are releasing and it being worthless in 4 years time when they stop supporting Intel machines.
Or am I being thick and it won't effect anything?
I just have memories of what happened when they swapped to Intel chips in the first place. The older models were redundant 3yrs later as you couldn't update the OS and therefore couldn't update the software etc etc.
- I say this as I was really thinking about getting a new iMac. My 2012 is getting a bit tired and I would love a Retina screen. Think I'll wait another :-(Hayzilla
- ARM cpu's will only go in low-end Macs first like Macbook Air. Will take at least 1-3 more years until the transition to other ones. And even longer for Mac ProNBQ00
- I wonder how long they'll even make Mac Pros considering how little they care about that end of the market.CyBrainX
- "how little they care"? When they just brought you a brand new Mac Pro and even a XDR Screen.NBQ00
- Have they released the new iMac?Gnash
- The timeline might be announced later this month, so maybe worth waiting to hear about that.nb
- Gnash, if they did you would know about it, sigh. It's coming at WWDC2020 in like 2 weeks :)NBQ00
- I need I new one badly...Gnash

Display-blurring technology using face detection and gaze tracking
By identifying the authenticated user and by pinpointing where on the device’s screen the user is looking, the system would then know which areas of the screen to digitally blur (or ‘encrypt’) and which to keep legible, should any unknown or unauthorized faces appear.

A well-off friend has one of those trashcan Macs... as a media server.
I saw it sitting on the floor in his living room and did a double-take, especially as I've never seen one in the flesh.
Neat little machine - i took it apart to have a look as soon as his back was turned :)
.
I just checked to see how much they cost second hand - it's obvious in hindsight, but realising they hail from 2013 is another of those moments where I realise how old (and irrelevant) I am!
- Poor thing's never been used to anything like a single % of its capability.Nairn
- The fact that it’s widely known as the Trash Can Mac is a lesson that should be taught in design schoolsnb
- They'll make a pyramid one soon to complete the set after this and the Cube.face_melter
- I still have mine, it randomly fried but apple fixed it for $800, I don't use it and should sell it, slow piece of shit.moldero
- I’ve still got my cube, but I don’t have the tools to return it into an asquariumMrT

Apple market-cap 1.5 trillion.
500B away from 2 trillion. First company to both hit 1T and 2T probably.
October 6, 1997: Michael Dell makes an infamously bleak appraisal of Apple’s fortunes. Asked what he would do with the struggling company, the founder of Dell Inc. says he would “shut it down and give the money back to the shareholders.”

- Pretty amazing. We complain a lot of about Apple, easy target. But what are they doing RIGHT?inteliboy

- yea but all the other companies also use Foxconn and make phones....inteliboy
- Lot fo people just don’t want to admit what they do right. They make quality reliable products that are easy to use. That simple.monospaced
- Sure there are imperfections and mistakes naturally, but in general they are consistent. People like that.monospaced
- the real reason is they bottom dollar everyone else's innovation / inventions through licensing, rarely investing in manufacturing.imbecile
- Plus great industrial trend setting design. Of course they are innovative.monospaced

- yeah i see that this keynote is mostly about service refresh and better junk integrationsted
- Why is it always like watching The Stepford Wives?fadein11
- You will have confirmation when hackers go thru iOS 14 or new macOS source code for mentions of ARM architecture and all thatgrafician
- It does feel extra "sterile" this time 'around. There is literally "hand washing" detection on the next WatchOS.
