@utopian: You were complaining about full screen apps on MacOS? Today I was setting up a new MBP and noticed a setting in System Preferences > Dock > Prefer Tabs When Opening Documents
This might ease your troubled heart!
- Thank you, this really helps!utopian
- The bigger question is...why did Apple add this "tabbed feature" to their updated iOS, automatically change my settings, and then bury it in the Dock?utopian
- it helps no doubt, one thing i wish we could do is have it controlled at the system level. i.e. Tabs for browsers, new windows for explorer...Vandal7

Transition will take 2 years. First computers are probably laptops so they can brag about battery life. They said there are still new Intel Macs yet to be released.
- Apple didn't switch to AMD like the rest of the world? Intel is so behind AMD right now, it's crazymoldero
- ^ I'm blown away by how much faster my AMD pc is vs my mac pro... at a fraction of the cost.zarkonite
- what happened to Intel? they used to be a KING. Who ever is managing that company should be booted.inteliboy

my 11 y/o macbook pro has just about had it so i need to upgrade, the question is what do I get?
new version of mackbook pro OR ipad pro.
need it for my adobe suite
photoshop
illustrator
and web work.I do a little video in premier and aftereffects but could limit that to my imac if i had to.
I need it more for my home office and on the go.
I'd love to have the drawing/pencil capabilities of the ipad pro and at 2k cheaper than the macbook it's looking like a pretty good option.
just curious if the workflow can go between an ipad and an imac, psd files, ai files etc.
- In my experience...still running into issues with workflow when trying to use iPad for professional work.yuekit
- It's closer than it was in the past but you still run into annoying limitations. I wouldn't bank on it for real design or web stuff.yuekit
- Shit ok, thanks figured it wasn’t quite there yet thus the price difference_niko
- imac + ipad if you don't need to work in between places.oey_oey
- my macbook pro 2009 died and I bought myself and macbook pro 2012 to use as a in between solution while I'm saving money for the imac I really need.oey_oey
- I also bought an iPad and can't wait to try this sidecar thing.oey_oey
- This guy did exactly what you describe:

Resutls weren't great.face_melter - Yeah there are aspects of work you can do very well on an iPad Pro, but you can't do "heavy" design work yet.nb
- Best combo for design in my mind is MBP 16" plus big external monitor plus an iPad pronb

I recently had to upgrade. MacBook Air? I have a iPad Pro but can’t imagine working on it (great for some stuff but not “work” right now). Air is as good / better than my few years old pro. And it’s cheap as chips. Just get more ram (and maybe bigger drive). But that’s always been the case

iOS 14 introduces a feature that alerts users when apps access their clipboards, and tons of apps have been caught clipboard snooping.
LinkedIn is one of the iOS apps that has been reading user clipboards, and iPhone owners have complained that the app copies the contents of the clipboard with every keystroke.

iOS 14 & iPadOS 14 both available as Public Beta's today:
I can't do Developer Betas BUT Public Betas I'm cool with; perhaps a "sign I'm getting old"?!
Eagerly awaiting Mac OS "Big Sur" Public beta.

I completely lost interest in all their products, now even have fun discussing the flaws and pros anymore. Their products just became meh, bland and completely useless for my tasks and I despise their brand shift towars luxury shit.

Did a clean install last night, I'm still setting up my stuff but I really like it, the tweaks they did to the Finder are nice. I was on Mojave so I cannot compare with Catalina.
Do not install if you depend on apps that install kexts, for example on my case Karabiner Elements, they do not allow this anymore and created a new API for drivers so any app that installed kernel extensions will need to release updates. I think you can get by in the meantime by disabling system integrity protection (SIP) but in the case of Karabiner this doesn't even make the kext load.
- Are you on a hackintosh? I think the opencore folks have a solution for the kexts.section_014
- this was on a 2017 MBP, yeah you can load kexts disabling SIP in the meantime, but this one fails even doing thaternexbcn
- a friend told me his Catalina install is warning him about his wacom tablet probably not being supported on Big Sur, I don't use a wacom, just FYIernexbcn

My (pre-Retina) iMac is creeking towards its end-of-life, probably won't make it another year. At half or a third the price I'm wondering if a Mac Mini might not make more sense than going all in on a new iMac, and just use the old one as a monitor. I don't do anything more intensive than Adobe and don't need Retina for what I do, and could always upgrade the display later if that changes.
I've never given them any thought before, is there something I'm missing? Anyone else here switched from iMac to Mini?
- I am considering this https://www.macrumor…zaq
- Not keen to beta test new hardware myself. Got fucked on a refurbed macbook years ago when new solder wrecked the line and I didn't qualify for the fix.i_monk

- ^ oof, that guy is a knob.section_014
- Haven't watched it, but Air has the weakest processor and lowest memory capacity of the three.i_monk
- My old work bought a load of minis. They were much better than I thought they would be. Only issue was not having a separate graphic card.Gnash
- I believe the newer minis have a separate GC?Gnash
- Some iMacs can’t be used as monitors - check it out if that’s part of your decisionGnash

I could use some advice from the community on this. I am looking to upgrade my system since I am doing a lot more After Effects and using plugins like Trapcode and my MacBook Pro is struggling.
What I am on: MacBook Pro from 2018; 2.9 GHz Intel Core i9, 32 GB 2400 MHz DDR4; Radeon Pro Vega 20 4080 MB
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MBWhat I am Looking at: either to iMac Pro 10-Core or a MacPro 12-Core with some decent memory and card ...
I would be open to a PC build but I have a lot of apps, and licenses that would be time consuming/costly to manage ... plus I still need to occasionally use Sketch.
It's a costly upgrade but worth it if the speed is there. Would love to get some advice and recommendations. Thanks!
- I have a 2013 iMac, and works 2019 iMac Pro super $£$£ thing. Was expecting a x2 speed boost when preview rendering. Difference = 0.shapesalad
- There is a slight different on 'Make movie' rendering times. But I don't care about that. It's all about that Preview render... that slows my work right down.shapesalad
- It's the fuckin Ae, not your hardware mate. Was doing trapcode projects on MBPro 2009 with 8GB RAMgrafician
- Stay on 2-3 generations behind on Mac OS and at least 1 year back on Adobe CS, none of their stuff is optimised for recent years hardwaregrafician
- Btw I'm fairly certain Apple is undercloking everything to save up battery life/face in recent years MBPros looking like Airs, taking us for foolsgrafician
- see the scandal with iPhone 6 battery lifegrafician
- So an i9 would be a puny i5 in real work conditionsgrafician
- ok ... so now I don't know what to doatomholc
- Sorry to baffle you, wait until next year's upgradesgrafician
- Whatever the setup, I’d suggest an external SSD to keep your project files separate from AE cache and render location.MrT
- That’s worked solidly for me on a couple of setups. I do a fair bit of tv stuffs, plenty of trapcode and some 3D.MrT

Are any of you using an iPad + Apple Pencil + Sidecar to do drawing, sketching, or writing?
I'm getting tempted to get an iPad Air and the Pencil 1 if it can work pretty well in SideCar mode and also work within Miro or other drawing tools.
