It was. I was using a version from ‘17 I believe.

- if only it worked properly with Apple.utopian
- Please observe how after 20 years Microsoft decided to innovate > copy Apple > have a Windows dock!grafician
- Wouldn’t this just be a centered task bar and start menu?monospaced
- Are you talking about the bar that's been at the bottom of every windows version since 1994?zarkonite
- no, talking about the centered thingy like mono saidgrafician
- I don't care where they are as long as they don't do that "boooing" thing Macs do, nothing worse than that!formed
- what is that screenshot? Windows 12 ??Bennn
- @benn: It's some made up design by whoever on the internets.zarkonite
- @graf: that's just what it looks like right now minus the center align.zarkonite
- they have a dock!
innovation never sleepsernexbcn - Bottom edge dock is stupid anyway. I always use left edge so I can keep more vertical screen real estate.monospaced
- Anything looks clean when you dont have any programs installed.GuyFawkes
- Windows had a dock for over 20 years. It's called a taskbar.jagara
- left align is a taskbar, center align is a dock. discussgrafician
- It's Windows 10X, a lightweight version of Win10face_melter
- ^ good catch!zarkonite

Volume on my iPhone XR calls is very low...can't for the life of me find anything to help this. I can hardly hear on many occasions...and no, it's not my hearing - have tried on other phones and it's fine. All volume controls all the way up but still garbage.
Anyone offer any tips before I book an appointment at Geeny-arse bar?
- when you answer are you putting the phone to your ear or trying to use the speaker?dorf
- Ear.
If I put it on speaker, it's OK. But if I answer and put it to my ear, the volume is very low.BusterBoy - This happened on my old iPhone 8. I think it might be hardware related.monospaced
- The speakers all seemed clean...I stuffed some blu tak in them and pulled out...seems to be a bit louder now I think?BusterBoy
- Make sure you haven't limited it:
Open up the Settings app. Head down to Music > Volume Limit.Centigrade - I've had this with an iphone. Took it to a shop and they cleared out the gunk in the speaker for £10. Sorted.Hayzilla

- Might be that stupid Hearing volume level thing they just added, which lowers volume if you've been listening too loud so you don't go deaffyoucher1

Now only apps from the App Store can be installed on M1 Macs
- *iPhone appsinteliboy
- Innovation Never Installs...utopian
- It’s actually developers not allowing it, because iPhone apps don’t work well without a touch screen.monospaced
- Clickbait!nb
- That makes sense, actuallyGnash
- Headline is false. You can install any software you want from outside the Mac App Store. Obviously.monospaced

What are folks using as a monitor for their Mac Mini / Laptop externals these days?
https://www.macrumors.com/2021/0…
Bastards / rumours drop that. Obviously looking at BUT never considering getting their Pro Display XDR, BUT perhaps an SE is in the works to pair with said machines?
Looking at https://www.benq.com/en-ca/monit….
Thoughts? Recommendations? Only need is 4k.
- The same display as iMacs
https://www.apple.co…utopian - @utopian I assume you're NOT actually using said monitor BUT suggesting based on the LG display?ideaist
- ^ why only 24”Gnash
- here's the 27" 5K display
https://www.apple.co…utopian - I picked up a Dell U2720Q (27" 4K) display recently and am very happy with it. It's a near perfect match to the MB screen and is also a powered USB-C hub.monospaced
- https://www.dell.com…monospaced
- @idealist a friend of mine has 2 of the LG 27" dual displays. Apple uses the same LG display for its iMacs.utopian
- I was just looking into monitors this weekend. I think my next upgrade will from my 2017 iMac to a maxed out Mac mini.mg33
- We have an M1, NOT maxed out and god damn it is amazing. The world is catching up to the architecture BUT wow.ideaist
- I have a M1 MBP and use the LG 27" 5k at work and the LG 24" 4K at home. I dont think the screen is as nice as the 5K display in my old iMac, but it is good.slappy
- Worth it just for the single USB-C connection which charges the laptop and supplies the sound/video and picture signals.slappy
- The Dell does that too.monospaced
- Thanks all.
MAY hold off until my old monitor(s) die; still rocking an Apple thunderbolt AND non compatible cinema display... *sigh*ideaist - Wish I could hack my old iMac screens to workGnash
- @Gnash Totally; I think they'll release the new M1 - M? iMac and than release a standalone version of ONLY the monitor. Hopefully based on the small bezel...ideaist

BREAKING: Apple posts record $111 billion in quarterly revenue, with its cash on hand rising to $195 billion.

- Numbers don’t lie.monospaced
- actually, they do.imbecile
- Huh? It’s just their earnings reports. You think it’s not true?monospaced
- don't make me mention the numerous ways they skirt tax laws and use slave labor to earn "profits"imbecile
- Oh sure, of course they do that. It helps the numbers they present, which are true. I'm not condoning anything btw.monospaced

Currently using a 2016 i7 16GB Macbook Pro for Illy and Photoshop.
Thinking about getting a secondary machine - new M1 MacMini, but with only 8GB. Trying to get the cheapest Mac available.
Is this a viable option? Anyone in the know?
- Probably comparable or better performancemonospaced
- I upped the ram to 16gb in my M1 mini and I'm glad I did, not that much extra and you cant upgrade it later.slappy
- once CC is M chip friendly it will run circles around that 2016 mbpinteliboy
- I have heard that you cannot connect external monitor to new M1...among other limitations....so be carefuldkoblesky
- I want one....but have to wait for MacBook Pro version hopefully this yeardkoblesky
- Look at the tests on the M1 Air, the lack of ventilation kills its performance so if you're doing anything intensive... wait for a better chassis.zarkonite
- i regret my 256gb purchase, wish i would have gone with 512imbecile
- You most definitely can attach external displays. Haha.monospaced
- I have the M1 Macbook Pro, do you mean wait for the 16" version @zarkonite? Also connects to a monitor beautifully :)slappy
- M1 Mac mini here. Baseline. It’s perfect BUT overall software catching up... if you’re doing 4K video, I’d say upgrade BUT for design, development, etc...ideaist
- ...baseline is fine.
Fuck fake monitor news / fake news. Works a charm across the board. Approved.ideaist - "cannot connect external monitor"
Are you on crack dko?Hayzilla - Oh nevermind, I mis-read and thought you were considering an M1 Air for work...zarkonite
- Thanks for the insights. I think I'm confident with M1 Mac Mini now. But just debating that few extra $ for more Ram, since this was an unexpected purchase.randommail
- I went with the base because B&H was selling for only $650! (normally 700)randommail
- Nice @randommail; enjoy!!!ideaist

The mac mini M1 is on special at amazon and B&H today.

Help me out here...
My main music / photo editing computer is a 2017 iMac 3.8Ghz with 40GB of RAM.
Apple will give me $840 if I trade it in. The 16GB unified memory
1TB SSD storage Mac Mini will run me about $1,299.With that trade in, the mini is about $459. That's hard to beat for a new machine that is leaps ahead of my iMac.
If I add two monitors to it that are suitable for photo editing, 27" and 4k, what's the way to go to keep this relatively affordable and, say, not push more than $1,200 in cost overall?
- In the same pickle; the only solution is either 1 "good" monitor OR 2 "value"-based monitors.
Mac Mini (again) is phenomenal.ideaist - ^ See the BenQ images above for some light monitor advice.ideaist
- Thanks ideast. I'm eager to see huge performance increases with Logic Pro.mg33
- But on the monitors. Here's the big question: I currently use an iMac, and a Thunderbolt 27". What "value" monitors are just as good as those?mg33
- And do they make glossy monitors still? I'm so used to these being glossy.mg33
- Are there any useful MacRumours about when the 'M1Pro' or whatever is going to come out? RAM and monitor limitations seem to hamper the M1 nowNairn
- ...and I say that reverentially - the M1 is a beautiful piece of Hardware. Just not quite perhaps ready for people who actually require 40Gb RAM, etc! :)Nairn
- @Nairn; i think the Mac Pro with M1 is looking like late this year. 16" MacBook Pro's as well.
@mg33 Search amazon for 4k 27" monitor and sort Low > High $.ideaist - Nairn - you can run two monitors with the new mini though, right?mg33
- My apologies, I was aware of limitations, but they were not for the Mini. You might need to get a USB-C connector. That might only be for 5k displays though.Nairn
- *USB-C - HDMI *converter*, not connector.Nairn
- This looks like a good way to do it: https://thesweetsetu…mg33
- I'm finding some good reviews on this.
https://www.amazon.c…mg33 - Basically, Mac mini + two of those = about $1,400, minus additional cables, bigger USB hub, etc.mg33
- Two Dell U2720Q will set you back about a grand, but totally worth it.monospaced
- Mono - I'd choose Dell over most at that price.mg33
- Although I don't like the connections coming in from the bottom. What a PITA.mg33
- the dell connection from the back/bottom is ideal (USB-C) and the screen is the same as the MBP in look and colormonospaced
- mono - does this Dell have the ability to switch inputs? My setup would be Mac mini to monitor A, work MBP to monitor B...mg33
- ... but often using monitor B as a duel monitor for the Mac mini. If I could do that without changing cables all the time, that would be great.mg33
- Nevermind, I answered my question. There's an input source button to switch between inputs.mg33
- Look for used high quality monitors. Eizo coloredge Dell premiercolor. Hp dreamcolor, anything ~100% aRGB. Good monitors last ages.monNom
- In the same pickle; the only solution is either 1 "good" monitor OR 2 "value"-based monitors.

What's the site where you can compare different apple computer speeds, performance tests, etc and it represents all the factors in a graph?
I'm looking around now and can only find crap sites that look like they were designed in 1990, like this: https://everymac.com/ultimate-ma…
- https://browser.geek…Hayzilla
- 'Established 1996'
;)Nairn - Why does it matter how a site looks? That one's comprehensive and goes *waay* back. Grade A tech nerdery, does the bizNairn
