Apparently, the biggest Apple news yesterday was not announced during the event. Apple quietly made this available online inthe store:

Go get it while the supply lasts

I'm sure these new MBPs are beasts, and I just spent $3,500 on one... but the new casing looks so utilitarian compared to the older tapered design.
- Matching the Mac Pro design(s), eh?
My "Touchbar" MacBook Pro feels pretty delicate...ideaist - They are totally channelling the Titanium PowerBook G4

I really need a new iMac hopefully pro 27” versions with m1max come out soon
- I can’t wait that long. Probably going for the new mbp and monitorGnash
- The iMacs usually have better specs than the MBS, for cheaper, and with the big screens, though ...monospaced
- If you have a second screen already the mbp is a great option and with these latest specs it’s just bonkers_niko
- true, it is a beast of a machine, and that's what really matters ... now just put those guts in the fucking mini FFSmonospaced
- drgs4
- no...cam and led fit in the bezel. it's branding / preparing for future updates. they can pack a lot of tech in that space. +the products get apple's 'red ring'uan
- Seriously wtf, all that for a small light and camera? Slide it up a bit, there’s room_niko
- Maybe there are other sensors too, like light sensors, mics?monospaced
- inNOvationutopian
- probably to stop a class action suit of people claiming a design fault from greasy fingers removing the antiglare from the screen when they open the lidkingsteven
- LOL at all you armchair tech designersHayzilla
- “Branding purposes.” Lol. Yeah let’s do something ugly just to be different from the competition. So Apple design philosophy.NBQ00
- LOL at Gayzilla********

- It didn't negatively impact iPhone sales, that's for sure.monospaced

Mac mini Pro now. Put all that power in the little box, please. Thank you.
- Didn’t they announce the Mac mini pro? Or was that fake?_niko
- No, the mini is the one from 2020 with the original M1 chip in it. It could easily house the same guts as the MBPs announced yesterday.monospaced
- Not sure why anyone would downvote this. It's quite possibly the ideal machine for most of us who don't need a laptop.monospaced
- No.
Even if the price is good, you still need a fucking display for it so better get iMac or MB Pro duhgrafician - Huh?monospaced
- No. If you have a display already it’s not better. The whole point is that it isn’t connected permanently to a display. That’s a good thing.monospaced
- No, why would you need one when both an iMac and a MBP have better specs and monitors included!grafician
- Weird questions. It would have the same specs as the MBPs, and it's not an all-in-one. This is ideal for many creatives. That was already explained and obvious.monospaced
- Not everyone wants or needs an all-in-one, and there are countless reasons why an all-in-one is not always the best solution.monospaced
- It's why the Mac Pro has never had a built in screen. Surely that makes sense to you. You do run agencies, no?monospaced
- The best reason is that if even a part of your MBP or iMac breaks, you have to replace major parts, or the whole thing, and/or risk losing data.monospaced
- uhm a Mini is just a glorified media box
if you want options get a Mac Pro
also the new versions you can't replace anything lolgrafician - mono you again talk about things you have no clue about just to be in the conversation by all means lolgrafician
- nobody uses a Mini as a creative, in over a decade in the creative business Idk anybody using a mini for work
so you're the weird one with your fetishgrafician - You totally missed the point. I’m talking about a small unit like a mini with all the power of the MacBook pros.monospaced
- I’m talking about it with more knowledge and experience than you. Don’t even imply I don’t know. You’re such a condescending prick.monospaced
- The new MBP silicon is better than the old Pros. So just transfer that to a small desktop. If you can’t figure out how that works then you don’t know shit.monospaced
- It would be the ideal machine for most pro users.monospaced
- You have seriously fucked reading comprehension issue. Here you are rambling about how creatives don’t use minis like a moron off topic.monospaced
- you posted again a rant and didn't actually said anything useful - just stop assuming everybody else is like you
Told you nobody uses a Mini for workgrafician - based on me knowing hundreds if not thousands of creatives - most of them personally! All Mac users, most use MBPs
+ extra display, some use iMacsgrafician - And learn to make an argument based on facts not wishful thinking and imagining thingsgrafician
- I'm NOT suggesting people use a mini for work. I know Minis aren't used by pros. NEVER said they were.monospaced
- I'm suggesting, like they did with the M1, that they put the newest high performance M chips in a similarly sized package like the Mini. It would be awesome.monospaced
- That kind of thing would be well received. It's not a rant. You are the one ranting nonsense about something I never said. Dude, grow up.monospaced
- I never assumed anyone was like me. I'm talking about teh creative teams that upgrade Pro machines and KEEP their displays.monospaced
- Ah okay, but still, I don't see a market for Minis even with latest chips inside
pretty sure the Mini M1 was just an experimentgrafician - Also keep in mind these new chips are laptop chips, for the desktops they will have another version M2 I think they called it with more cores/memory on SoCgrafician

I still would buy a MacMini pre M1 but they cost like 800€ around here..fucking hell.
Not interested in a super Laptop for now.
But a MacMini Pro...hell yeah!- The current mini with the M1 is no slouch.monospaced
- It could be a little bigger than the mini and Apple could call it ... wait for it ... the "Macintosh."monospaced
- Not a truncated puck computer, not a laptop, not an all-in-one, not a ridiculous $10k super computer, just a fucking Macmonospaced
- I meant 800€ second-handoey_oey

- so no longer a virgin, good for yougrafician
- @drgs i'm no developer!@ ;) 90% windows user, 10% is my corporate macbook what is basically a remote desktop client.sted
- @grafician i lost my virginity in 1999 when i was forced to work on an iMac-G3.
just never owned any with my name on it :)sted - The plan is to buy this cheap one and see how it goes for a few months. I hope it will be nice and we can fall in love so i can spend more on a bigger model :)sted

- Adobe no doubt adjusting their software to this. I expect no less than 15 updates the next month.monospaced
- what a waste of time and resources. all for a feature that is there and annoying 100% of the time for a camera that is used .01% of the time._niko
- I'm curious what happens when the software isn't updated in time since these MBP's ship very soon.NBQ00
- I interpreted her posts as saying that macOS automatically adjusts the menu system mostly.monospaced

Waiting for that 27” iMac m1x pro to drop. Just think how big the fuckin notch will be

Am I going mad?
Why is the new M1 16" I want $2,699 on the American site yet the UK site has it at $3,590! Is it a tax thing not included yet on the US one?- brexit innithans_glib
- Try buying one in Brazil :)NBQ00
- there's no sales tax on the US models but I believe thats 6-8% added on checkout? maybe someone can confirm.kingsteven
- in the UK they add 20% vat to everything, but the difference on a $400 and a £400 upgrade is 38% (see my post a couple days ago) so yeah it's fuckedkingsteven
- Sounds like a weekend trip to NY is on the cards.Nairn
- ^ And then the different cables/plugs set you back 700$ :)Longcopylover
- USA we add about 8-9% tax at purchase.monospaced
- I used to buy all my macs in duty-free dixons, don't know if that's still a thing. cheapest one way ticket, then back through the gate with 20% offkingsteven
- Thanks Biden!nb
- Start a smuggling ring?nb
- $400 + 9% = $436 (£316) so a
£400 (memory or processor) upgrade is 26% more expensive in the UK because Apple round everything up to 100kingsteven - hahaa! that's why i went bestbuy, and my bud helps with the shipping :)sted
- It’s the same situation here in Spain too. :/Chimp

Once more, this whole M1X (Max) is like a cpu revolution. I've never seen such significant jumps in this field like what Apple is doing in the past years with their Silicon.
This new M1X Max MBP has like 100x-1000x more power than the $200K-500K priced SGI machines from the mid 90's.
I would love to see some Houdini Smoke & Fluid simulations tests on these new MBP's.
- you missed the amiga chipset architecture in the 80's?
kids suddenly had cray render power in their bedrooms.uan - I'm a 90's kid, I grew up with SGI's ;)NBQ00
- but you did,
when intel pentium arrived.sted - I miss the 90snb
- It’s crazy how it outperforms their top Mac Pro with the afterburner card. And in a tiny efficient package. Could easily fit it into a Mac mini size enclosure.monospaced
- They should just take the Mac Pro off the site until the updated M2 version is out. Who would pay $20K-$50K when you can just buy a $4K MBP?NBQ00
- Exactly. Or just make a Mac Pro that is this but without the laptop or iMac form factor. Would so slick.monospaced
- You are comparing this to a SGI workstation, that's retarded.********
- If you compare it to the current maxed out Mac Pro for 7x the price it still holds true.monospaced
- Not the 1000x part, but it is faster.monospaced
- you missed the amiga chipset architecture in the 80's?
- craigatkinson-1
new MBP, 32core 64GB 2TB — there's only £75 difference between 14" & 16". on student pricing.
That's £37.50 per inch
I know people who charge more than that
- is this Unidays? still waiting for them to appear on the HE supplier page.kingsteven
- unidays, pre VAT. So unless 14" is a must, 16 is a no brainercraigatkinson
- lolsted
- apparently both 14" and 16" models can hold the same top specs, you just pick the size you wantgrafician
- Exactly the reason I think it would work great in an enclosure like the mini. :)monospaced
- found one thing: 16" requires magsafe fast-charge... 14" can charge off USBC (although i'm not sure there's any monitors that support high-power USB yet)kingsteven
- I charge using my Dell thru USB C, no need for Mac chargergrafician
- they will both charge but 16" will not fast-charge over USB (USB-C maxes out at 96W), neither will fast-charge from current Dell monitors as they provide 60Wkingsteven
- Don’t need it to fast charge while working at the Dell for the day. Plus fast charge wears out the battery faster.monospaced
- Yeah, only mentioned as its one minor difference between the 14" andbase model 16"... Looking at new monitors ATM - 96w usb-c would swing it.kingsteven
