I like it when I actually know I'll be getting a new Apple product when these things launch. This old iPhone XR has been good to me but the vast development in cameras means its time to upgrade to the 15. Here we goooo....

"iPhone 15 has an all new design..."
WHAT?
lol
- It looks exactly the same?NBQ00
- The seamlessly milled aluminum case is actually pretty different, lots of soft seamless edges, even with the camera lens bump.evilpeacock

- It’s made from a different material, I’d say that qualifies as a new design. What do you want? Folding? 90s clear plastic?nb

“Many of the dangers we face indeed arise from science and technology—but, more fundamentally, because we have become powerful without becoming commensurately wise. The world-altering powers that technology has delivered into our hands now require a degree of consideration and foresight that has never before been asked of us.”

as dumb as I think all the apple hype and incremental upgrades are, i do consider their pro phones, "professional grade".
I have used an iphone 14 pro max for the last 8 months as a social media device. I record greetings, overviews, walkthroughs, and all photographs that post to 9 social media channels with it, recording video with probably 30 individuals monthly, taking countless photos
I manage multiple google business profiles, facebook and instagram profiles, as well as twitter and youtube using agorapulse posting both photos and videos on a daily basis.
my work carry is a $30 amazon sling bag containing a work provided cell phone, airpods pro, amazon microphones, tripod, phone holder, battery pack, mouthwash, eye drops, and a pocket knife.
20 years ago, I wanted the iphone 2 to do this, it couldn't. Now the only reason I open my computer is to use after effects or manage the website.
my se or se2 could never manage this, screen too small, camera too shitty.
I'm sure any modern android device could do this, the world may never know. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Apple is pushing mobile gaming graphics and gameplay. For more than a decade mobile games remained the same, not much improving, maybe even regressing by introducing all these dumb micro paymeng and loot boxes with 100 notifications before you can even start playing the game. This new power and being able to run console like games is great.
- Apple have profited greatly off that shit.PhanLo
- Maybe but it was the game publishers who introduced that crap, not because Apple asked for itNBQ00

- like MTX are going to stop just because the graphics are shinier. fucking brainiac over here.face_melter

- I can't stand modern gaming. This is one of the reasons. Also that they are all just like stories you follow along to.microkorg
- What I mean is if real game console games like Division & Resident Evil 4 come to iPhone, they're not the typical mobile pay-to-play shit.NBQ00
- and yet, touchscreen controls still suck monkeyballs.kalkal

We've reached the peak with phones. We need something else. There's no innovation left.

- 10 million sales in 2021, 14.2 million in 2022, 48 million forecast for 2027. But sure, nobody.i_monk
- "There's no innovation left." I don't agree with that.
No innovation by apple.sted - that 2027 sales is far fetched knowing what things they have to do to stay on the mobile communication market in europe and asia.sted
- the changes what coming (mostly for legal reasons) will affect apple more than any other phone manufacturer.sted
- I'm sure a $360B company is aware and takes its sales forecasts seriously.i_monk
- Apple is on shaky ground, imho. Look at China's move and what it did to the stock. Apple is a 1-trick-pony currently and their pony looks old and boring.formed
- I'll keep my stock because of their cash, but they've been doing nothing for a long time now, they better make something interesting soon.formed
- "No innovation by apple." so... where's all the innovation then? folding phones?inteliboy
- Since when is double-digits billions in cash reserves anything close to "shaky ground?" There's no sign they have any foundational problems.monospaced

Who else does the yearly upgrade subscription thing? It's been nice to get a new phone every year so of course ordering this one on Friday.
- how much?_niko
- that yummy tantalumimbecile
- I hate getting a new phone so much. I despise it. Every year would be hellnb
- I dont upgrade every version. I will get this one since I have the 12. So it will be a good worthy upgrade. Might get the plus.HAMT
- It's a bit fucking much to do it every year no? WOW. Every 3yrs I say would be the absolute max required!HAYZ1LLLA
- Mines 5yrs old and I will be getting this 15Pro. Still debating the max but for £150 more it seems worth it for longer battery, bigger screen and 25x zoom.HAYZ1LLLA

The cheap fucks at Apple are only including a USB-C 2.0 (not 3.0) cable with the iPhone 15 Pro. Sigh.

Pretty interesting Apple/ ARM story

Got the 15 Pro on Friday, first time to set it up doing the Quick Start method transferring one phone to the other over wifi. I usually make a backup on my computer and restore from there.
One key difference I noticed is that I did not have to set up google authenticator 2FA stuff on the new phone. Every time I've restored from a backup I had to.
Other than that, smooth sailing. The action button is nice, I have mine set to camera. Granted, you've got the camera button icon on the screen, but I was at a park with my kids this weekend and for whatever reason it was nice to have that actual button to press for the camera.
I got a clear case for it on Amazon, and here's a tip: make sure to get a clear case WITH the MagSafe circle charging thing visible. First case I bought didn't have that, it was nice and sleek and no clutter of that circle on the back, but without it it wouldn't hold tightly enough on an upright MagSafe stand. The battery backup wouldn't stick to it either. Sending it back and already got the right one with the MagSafe thing.
Other than that, it's still just an iPhone.
- only reason I point on the authenticator stuff is that last time around, I wiped my old phone before realizing I needed to copy over the 2FA stuff.mg33
- It was a pain getting that set back up, especially for my synology NAS at home. Have to use backup login codes, reset it. Frustrating. Glad this was seamless.mg33
- I did the Quick Start thing when I got my 14 Pro. It really does the trick.Continuity
- Link to the case?HAYZ1LLLA
- Incidentally — and I didn't know this until I got my M1 MBP — Mac OS has a similar thing as iOS Quick Start, over WiFi.Continuity

Resident Evil 4 for iPhone Will Cost $60. Good luck with that, Capcom. For $60 I'd just buy the desktop version.
