- I can't handle a sub 27" monitor on anything other than a laptop...
...RIP 27" iMac.ideaist - Someone needs his extra three inchnb
- If only I could use this as an external monitor for my company MacBooknb
- Yeah a 27" iMac with M4 would be an instant buy
Too bad...grafician - 27” would be 5k which would put the price way up.nb
- I want an Apple 24” 4K Matte displaynb
- Is there an equal quality 24” monitor that you can get for the same price as the iMac?_niko
- Too bad they’re kinda weak. Even a base MBP is more powerfulmonospaced
- No there is no 24” 4k monitor at the price. Closest was an old LG, I think. Def not same color. Modern Dell Ultrasharp 27” 4k U-series is closest now.nb

Cannot imagine what an M4 would perform like...ideaist - delivered on bicyclested
- Geezus, smoking, that Thunderbolt 5 at 120Gb/s is very beautiful. Thunderbolt 4 is 40Gb/s.thenohero
- I don't mean to be rude, but what is going on with the geometries on that guy's face/head? Someone fucked the mesh.Nairn

- Specifically Thunderbolt 5 supports 80 Gbps symmetrical send/receive or 120 Gbps send/40 Gbps receive (for displays).evilpeacock

was literally about to pull trigger on imac yesterday.. now am considering if Mac Mini is better. its got more ports for sure.. which is useful.. as i am ALL OUT OF PORTS
- What’s your monitor situation?ideaist
- I've got an M1 Mac Mini and I'm upgrading to the M4 / 24gb / 1TB for sure, and I get $365 for trade-in. $899 total.mg33
- see below, but 44inch 4k Tv which i sit way too close too :)autoflavour
- useful when im half way across the studio tho and i want to see whats happeningautoflavour
- I have an M2 Pro mini, which I love. The minis are great machines for the price.Josev

- Agreed; part of its dna / “personality” I assume...ideaist
- I was thinking the same thing but looked at the old iMacs and the chins were bigger. Maybe it's lack of apple logo that's making them look weird._niko
- where else are you meant to stick post-it notes?microkorg
- It’s because they don’t want to change the little icon on the apple sitenb
- ^ 2 legit reasons!microkorg
- It’d also need a taller stand so the screen wasn’t too low? Then it’dlook like one of those egg-on-legs bodybuilder types.MrT

pulled the trigger..
Mac Mini M4 Pro, upgrade to 1tb ..My main screen is a 44inch Samsung TV and I usually just used my imac as screen displaying my Studio Patchbay map so i can easily find what is what (72 patch points on the main patch bay with 2 aux patch bays elsewhere, plus 2 midi patch bays)
Anyway, have an old Mac Cinema display sitting around, so will just swap the imac out for that..
Was running a 2018 Macbook Pro, then got a 2019 Imac i7 .. but the imac was running 5400rpm drive so was a mad bottle neck for latency in audio recording.
now with new mac mini and a 2024 Motu 828 audio interface with USB 3.. latency is going to crushed
mad tech boner at the moment
- its mainly for audio, but also occasionally dabble with Cinema4d so all those extra cores are going to funautoflavour
- plus also going back the cinema display I instantly get a bunch more USB portsautoflavour
- Put a USB SSD boot drive on that iMac and it'll run circles around the internal 5400rpm drive OS. Like a new computer.evilpeacock
- Yeah I know, I even have the drive but kept getting quoted $350-400 to do it, and well, I just couldn’t be assedautoflavour
- My 10 year old has been asking for a computer for a while, guess it’s her lucky dayautoflavour
- Run it externally. It'll still make it seem like a new computer. I've done this so many times for old iMacs that I was too lazy to open up.evilpeacock

4 reasons why a maxed-out M4 Mac Mini can't replace my Mac Studio
- Damn dude what’s with the click baitnb
- wot no sd card slot?¿¿¡!?hans_glib
- not to nitpick but are we really comparing something that starts at $599 to something that starts at $1999?jonny_quest_lives
- I still want a 27" imac in the imac familyjonny_quest_lives
- Who the fuck cares what David Gewirtz thinks?!

Order for the M4 / 1TB / 24GB placed, with $365 in trade-in for my Mac Mini M1.
Mac Mini has worked perfectly fine but sometimes Logic Pro is a bit sluggish. Hoping the 24GB of memory and the overall speed jump is a nice upgrade. Little treat to myself... 8 months unemployed and just accepted an offer for a 12 month contract UX Strategy role in fintech. I was going to upgrade my Fuji camera but I'll get so much more out of a computer upgrade as I work on the album I've been recording.
- M4 Pro? hard to say no .. am so fucking amped to have a computer from this Decade finallyautoflavour
- like my 2018 macbook was no slouch at the time.. and still does a lot.. but after 6 years i feel i deserve a new toyautoflavour

- Wait til you find out where they put the power button on the Studio Display!nb
- I think it’s because Apple puts the power button on the keyboard too?monospaced
- No power button on Mac keyboard. You can wake it from sleep, but not turn it on from off.nb
- Maybe it will power on with keyboard input? Like a laptop?monospaced
- In all honesty, I don’t see many situations where anyone actually uses the power button on this. Usually it’ll just sleep until next use.monospaced
- lololol cognitive dissonance reduction runs deep with you fanboysimbecile
- Who’s the fanboy?monospaced
- When was the last time you had to truly power off your laptop? An occasional reboot I suppose but macOS works fine with long runtimes.monospaced

- I turn my mini off. Why leave it on?nb
- silly Apple shit. just put the button on the back. or make the whole case the button and whack it like you're on a fucking gameshow.face_melter
- You can always schedule power on/off cycles within macOS too. Used to to do that with company machines all-the-time.evilpeacock
- I turn my MBP off every day.
Why would I not?Continuity - I turn off all my machines always after finished working with them, PC or Mac. This is shit, period.OBBTKN
- You don’t need to. And I’m NOT a fanboydoublespaced
- Why you gotta be such a dick?monospaced

I gotta say - I'm more than slightly tempted by the new MacMini. I've just had a look and even the most basic version would more than likely suffice for what I'd use it for - and if I understand right, the M-series chips utilise RAM much more efficiently than standard PCs, right?
Heck I'm not even put off by the power button the bottom, haha.

- It's true that ARM instructions use much less memory bandwidth than Intel; Still should get more than you need if you plan to have it 5+ years.evilpeacock
- I've read that the low-end M4 chip outperforms the M2 Pro chip (which I have -- an M2 Pro Mini).Josev

Not to criticize their designers but they JUST figured out to put a couple ports on the front. My Mini has been in my desk backwards with all the cables hanging out since day one. Looks fucking ridiculous. But ports in the back are annoying to get at
- I bought one of these when I bought my M2 mini: https://qwiizlab.net…Josev
- I have two 2tb drives in it (on top of the 1Tb in my Mini). I use the SD card reader for my camera's cards.Josev

I wish I had 800$ right now to buy a refurbished MacMini from 2023 M2 with 16GB memory and 512GB drive.
- I've moved from a Powerbook 2018 to a Mac Mini M1 and DAMN it's smoooth. I can't imagine M4 Pro s**t!ideaist
- I have a MBP 2015 15" with 512GB and 16GB it works mostly fine, 80% of the time, but when I connect the external display I get some lag and those fans go nutsoey_oey
- So this would be a giant step forward. Even if I bought the MacMini 2020oey_oey
