Wanted to upgrade RAM on my fucking Mac Pro (Server), found out they still use FB-DIMM's with 800MHZ. 8GB is like $200.
What pricks you are Apple, why on earth did you build that shitty mainboard with that shitty ram on it? It's useless slow, ultra expensive to upgrade...
You piss me off more every day, Apple.
- Dude, it's not Apple. Intel Xeons require memory with ECC, do your research, you had to know this since you bought iternexbcn
- Cmon ernex, it's obviously apple trying to get rich. Buying 3rd party expensive ram profits apple the most and everyone knows that.monospaced
- hahah mono :)ernexbcn
- my computer at home is a Mac Pro late 2008, has 2 Xeons with 4 cores each, same RAM as you mekk, but I knew where I was getting into since I got iternexbcn
- mehmekk
- Xeons also run on socket 1150/1151 with non ecc ram. (with real computers.)mekk
- I guess back then they also required fully buffered memory, perhaps ECC isn't a true requirement but the mainboard must follow the intel reference for those CPUernexbcn
- You can get that ram really cheap on ebay from china.dorkKn1ght
- Not to mention, those Xeon processors have a super long shelf-life. People are still buying these old ass mac pros and they perform great.dorkKn1ght
- Mac mall?Hayoth
- ernexbcn2
^ if you wanted cheap ram you should have bought a non-pro Mac with Core i5/i7 or something earlier than that (Core Duo/Core Duo 2).
Xeon processors are server-grade and require memory with error correction to prevent data corruption.
- oh, and old ram tends to be more expensive because quantities are lower and people have moved onernexbcn

I'm actually getting psyched on the apple pencil for drawing on the ipad pro. I may order one.

How Apple Is Giving Design A Bad Name
For years, Apple followed user-centered design principles. Then something went wrong.
Once upon a time, Apple was known for designing easy-to-use, easy-to-understand products. It was a champion of the graphical user interface, where it is always possible to discover what actions are possible, clearly see how to select that action, receive unambiguous feedback as to the results of that action, and to have the power to reverse that action—to undo it—if the result is not what was intended.

Former Apple designers say the company has lost 'the fundamental principles of good design'
Two early Apple designers have written a piece on Co.Design chastising Apple's new design direction, which they claim puts elegance and visual simplicity over understandability and ease of use. Bruce "Tog" Tognazzini, who was Apple's 66th employee and the writer of its first human interface guidelines, and Don Norman, Apple's user experience architect from 1993 to 1996, aren't holding back in the least.
"Apple is destroying design," the duo wrote, calling out their former employer for trading in the fundamental design principles the company once held for a new minimalistic approach. That new approach has manifested in a new font called San Fransisco, which many, including Norman and Tog consider to be too small:

- What did Apple do in 93-96 that anyone can remember? Sounds like they got canned and are scratch for some publicityformed
- in my limited experience, Apple was never that good at user experience (iTunes, lack of drag/drop, etc.)formed
- They kinda pioneered dragging and dropping no?monospaced

- the one i had looks like brand new. ran for 5 years before i wanted something new again.pango
- cool. yep I hear good things on quality control - basically the same as new. Thanks.fadein11
- I've bought numerous refrubs from apple over the years, always been absolutely perfect.********
- Most refurbs replace all the cosmetic pieces, so they should all look new (from any manufacturer)formed
- my last refurb came with 8GB more RAM than was advertisedmonospaced
- Usually tells you the date of manufacture. I wouldn't bother with anything more than a year oldIanbolton

Now that officially drop them. I'm on Android since a month. And i'm on Windows since a few years. Oh i switched my iPad mini too for a Samsung tablet. Well, now i can make fun of Apple. AH AAH YOU SUCK APPLE! ;)- wait until you run out of a charge and nobody you know has a micro-usb cable sitting aroundmonospaced

- Lol. Help me apple cable, you're my only hope.Hayoth
- Micro usb cables are hard to find... interesting. Not in my experience.ETM
- Ben99 - I've been on a similar path lately. Apple quality in software just doesn't stand out anymore. Apple TV to Roku... love it. iPad to Nexus... happy.ETM
- Still have an iPhone for now.ETM
- My mom got a Samsung Tab A. It's pretty fricken nice with a good stylus built right in. Perfect for alias sketch express. Kinda jealous actually...monNom

Aapl's been going down lately to 102 now. Time to buy or stay away?

It's a tough call (obviously). On one hand, they have some of the best designers and thinkers working for them, enough cash to buy a country and great cash flow. Not a bad dividend, either.
On the other hand, they make almost all their cash off of one product - the iPhone. Momentum is what has kept it going as their specs have fallen behind. Watch is a "meh" at best, iPad is dead (iPro could be something if they put OSX on it, but I think they are still betting on controlling the app market, which is a gamble at this stage, with Google and Facebook offering new ways to install outside of their app store).
So long story short I have no idea :-), like everyone else. I am holding my position, but it's days of running are surely over.
- PE of 11.33 is pretty crazy low, tooformed
- Cool, I'll see how it plays outpinkfloyd
- Smartphones and gadgets all do the exact same shit these days. I say it's all riding on apple music, apple TV and the apple car. Would you bet on that?inteliboy

- Innovation Never Sleepsutopian
- Apple is scaling back production of the 6s, according to the Wall Street Journal, hence the continued plummet - that's NOT goodformed
- good. the iphone6 hardware design is so boring and uninspired - have no idea what samsung and co copied Apple on this one.inteliboy
- hoping this kicks the design team in the ass and they bring the goods for the 7.inteliboy
- They ALWAYS scale back production after Christmas. For 7 years people freak out over this. Then the prototypes for the next model start leaking.monospaced
- It means absolutely nothing more than they are being reasonable and getting ready for the next one. They still sell like hot cakes.monospaced
- formed0
To intelliboy - I would NOT bet on Apple Music. There's been so many failures and first-in is very important. They may make money off of it, but "real" money, no way.
Car - that's anyone's guess. It's like Bezo's rocket, who the hell knows! It's so far away and that industry is changing so rapidly no one ever knows. I'd put my money on Google if you wanted to play that card.
I am skeptical of Apple long term but their cash and dividend can't be denied. Get's cheap enough and it'll be worth it. But so far, Tim's leadership looks to be mediocre. Nice toys, but nothing even close to comparing to the original iPhone. That could change with one product, but so far they seem to care more about milking their cash cow that experimenting and pushing boundaries.

Damn-stock down to almost $96 a share.
- they arent producing new shit.. apple stock has been rocky for weeks********
- apple needs to get into guns if they want to see their stock risePonyBoy
- lol********
- The entire market is also down. Has nothing to do with not producing new stuff.monospaced
- the market is down, apple is down for different reasons. nice try tho********
- Has everything to do with products. Market correction is coincidence, but Apple's been down then entire year.formed
- ^********
- the real reason the market dropped 300 points like 3 days ago was because of fear. China proped up stocks and let their currency collapse********
- It's still falling at same rate.monospaced
- quote me, tomorrow will drop also jan.7********
- it's not the actual market situation, stock value is about the expectations of a certain market combined with expertise and experience of a company.mekk

Very much considering going back to PC. Apple is too expensive. Lenovo's are nice.
- On first impression, I loved using the Microsoft Surface Pro Book or whatever. Expensive, though.nb
- surface pro's are buggy af. constant updates...they didnt finalize the product...the pushed it out for 2016..imho the surface needs work still********
- Aren't they on the 3rd version in just as many years already?monospaced
