WHUT? We hated the Mac Pro because we could not upgrade it.. and THIS is the solution? Fuck you Apple, again. We got Eizos in the office. I'm not gonna buy an iMac and connect an external display.
WTF. "Pro"
But 120 hz iPad is cool.
- this is not the solution, it's a temporary fixESKEMA
- ya new pro towers out next year. not that that makes things any better. apple fucked up big time.inteliboy
- The fact they are cramming Pro guts into an already existing form is a massive reach and an expensive stop-gap that no-one will buy.face_melter
- I think people who want/need those cores will pick it up. I agree, it's not going to fly off shelves, but neither did the Mac Pros, and the price is pretty insamonospaced
- ^ people who really need that much cores needed them years ago and use machines outside of the Apple universemekk
- The iMac Pro is a not the new Mac Pro.
https://www.apple.co…evilpeacock - Oops, I meant: https://daringfireba…evilpeacock
- Why do you keep posting that? nobody here is confusing an iMac Pro with a Mac Pro.monospaced
- They managed to make disposable screens, it's amazing in a way.zarkonite

Still drives me nuts that Apple has to solder their best machines to their best displays and lock them in a soldered shut case permanently.
- And this talk about supporting external GPUs is bullshit. It's an insult to anyone who bought their hardware and who want upgrades. Just give us a usable box!monospaced
- Agreed, I want the upgradeable box.Knuckleberry

- I know it's not the new Mac Pro, evilpeacock. And yes, I am talking about the new iMac Pro being totally closed.monospaced

The price is Pro!

I was thinking during the presentation, that introducing a new file system (APFS) is a bad idea (based on all the struggle that the different file systems across os' cause, though meanwhile for the most part of it there are solutions).
now the first reports of how bad and chaotic this introduction is are appearing (and they probably skipped the solution for this, to make that copy files presentation look faster):
https://eclecticlight.co/2017/04…
back to 'can you save the file on a mac so that I can open it in windows'.
- It's beta for a reason, and remember that APFS is on all up-to-date iOS devices already. That rollout was as smooth as one could ask for.evilpeacock
- Smooth. yeah, because how often are you using your iPhone/iPad to share files with PCs and Linux devices?ETM

Just talked my boss into getting me an iMac Pro when available. I'm working on a late 2013 Mac Pro that crashes like a Russian dashcam compilation video.
(so excited I pee'd a little)
- I see what you did there!teh
- what's crashing it -- and ideas?Gnash
- my 2011 MBP is pretty solid - latest OS and Adobe CCGnash
- Yeah Gnash. late 2013 model has a known video card issue. Plus, it only has 12GB RAM. We did replace the vid-card but then realized the HD was near badkona
- (so the IT super guy said). We upgraded it to Flash storage but only 256GB.
The thing will still freeze randomly and/or force a log out and dump me out.kona - bummer. congrats on the coming iMac!Gnash

This does look badass!
- looks cool.... but what are the practical applications of AR? as cool as this looks I don't want to walk around a huge table to play a game on my ipadspot13
- I think it's all leading to some sort of eye unit, further down the road. Right now it's all about refining the gimmick for integration with other stuff later.monospaced
- Once again, Apple isn't exactly pioneering anything here, just jumping into the game that everyone else is playing.monospaced
- I remember in 2008 when AR become popular... it's still the future!zarkonite
- There are some huge architectural applications, this could be coolKnuckleberry
- Yup. Will be goggles.teh

Welcome to 2017 Apple...Just a a few years late to the party!
- Innovation Never Sleeps!utopian
- finally they solved the connector problem my iPod Hi-Fi has.uan
- but seriously, the innovation here is the adapt to the room feature. sonos has it, but doesn't adapt in realtime to changes in room configuration (yet).uan
- It's also going to integrated with HomeKit and shit, but yeah, not exactly leading the pack here. At the same time, I don't blame them for making it.monospaced
- Hey Siri, how do I kill myself using only household materials?face_melter
- Hey Siri, play Taylor Swift while I drink this litre of bleach and Tia Maria.face_melter

- I actually want one, am i dumb? should i just go for the amazon or google one?_niko
- wut is it? mac pro yarn ball?moldero
- They're a little late to the game no?HijoDMaite
- _niko don't buy one at all. They're useless in every way and just built to sell you shit.mekk
- lolmaquito
- Can only access Apple Music? Imagine having Zane Lowe *everywhere* in your home. Unable to escape his nasal bleatings 'now it's time for Run The Jewels. Again.'face_melter
- I suppose it's just a hi-fi speaker to go up against the Sonos style offering, but with homekit and siri built in, plus all kinds of other processing and shitmonospaced
- I know a ton of people love the Amazon Echo and also the Google Home, so it's not surprising Apple is doing their version of it. It's certainly not the same.monospaced
- Kinda smart making it primarily about quality sound, which is a differentiator of sorts for sure.monospaced
- stop making sense, monoGnash

i am jumping ship, i've had an iphone since the 3gs launched, and am now moving to a One+ 5 when its released this month...
i have loved the iphone but its become stagnent and hasnt changed enough to warrent its huge price tag.
i know i'll be lost initially for a few days but i am looking forward to it
- Innovation always sleepsutopian
- androids easier lol********
- "stagnant"? what else is the phone supposed to do for you? how often do you buy a new phone? curiousfourth
- It'll take a few minutes. They are nearly identical. I was surprised how easy it was when I switched (and how much I LOVE that back button!)formed
- I had a 1+1. It is great.instrmntl
- i have had an iphone for 8 years, since the 3gs, always under contract, 4s, 5s, 6s. the S's always seemed to be a bigger improvement but i am bored...cruddlebub
- nothing has changed significantly enough, mainly the camera, and thats a big pull for me. ive found the iphone sluggish, buggy... i wont miss it.cruddlebub

Apple is making tv series now?
- They are scrambling to be relevant in every category - shows, cars, glasses, speakers, etc.formed
- That's been in the works for What seems like forever now. It sounds like a bad ripoff of shark tank-the US version-which was a bad ripoff of the U.K. version.lvl_13
- I don't know anyone who uses iTunes for watching television. At most for renting movies.monospaced
- It's like they are moving in slow motion - iTunes could have beaten Amazon/Netflix, just like Siri could have, but they stagnated and now are way behindformed
- so what ... that's a reason to hate everything Apple does? because they're not leading?monospaced
- Well, somewhat yes. Would you buy a car that had a carburetor and drum brakes just because it looked nice?ETM
- wait, cars don't have carburetors anymore?Gnash
- wait. So this speaker which is a combo hifi speaker, integrated personal assistant and home controller is the outdated tech????monospaced
- what you're saying is more like nobody should bother making an electric car because tesla is already doing it, so don't bother because they're just catching upmonospaced
- there is no equivalent to the Apple product right now eithermonospaced
- @mono Yes. Outdated. Stuff we've been able to do for a couple years by basic integration standards with multiple products that don;t force usETM
- into a single ecosystem. Phillips, Echo, Google Home, Zigbee, Zwave etc. etc.ETM
- Are we always supposed to sit on our hands, missing out waiting to see when or if Apple will get on board with something when new tech and standards come out?ETM
- no of course not nobody said thatmonospaced
- just trying to figure out why so much outright hate for a company because they make a new product to keep up with times ... everyone does itmonospaced
- the tech and product aren't outdated, you just literally said it was the new standard. lolmonospaced
- I remember when I started working on my new app, the first thing I thought was "I wonder if Gwyneth Paltrow would approve"...zarkonite
- @mono As usual you miss the point. Yes it was new standard(s), a few years back. Read it again. The point was when new things come out Apple users wait yearsETM
- for the same tech and it's not even all that better presented or polished anymore. Is that easy enough to understand?ETM
- as usual? I'm not missing the point :) apple users don't have to wait for an apple solution, which is a point you seem to have missed :)monospaced
- No, Apple users just wait longer than everyone else for any new tech now. But I suppose if one lives in a bubble you don't notice.ETM

"Apple says iMac Pro RAM won’t be user replaceable, Space Gray accessories not sold separately"
https://9to5mac.com/2017/06/05/i…
I still think you can replace it, but you have to tear the whole thing apart, not an straightforward procedure. I guess it will be like changing the hard drive on previous iMacs, you have to take the screen out, etc.
In any case, if you care about these things I'd guess the better option would be waiting for the new Mac Pro.
- the regular 27" iMacs have a door on the back to replace ram easilymonospaced
- i call that door it's 'poop shoot'kona
- fuck that, i'm switching to PCmoldero
- PC Windows... or PC Hackintosh?ETM
- probably a maingear system
https://www.maingear…moldero - seeing how far behind mac has been for the past 5 years, i don't see them getting ahead of PCs anytime soonmoldero
- that's not a deal breaker for me. Back in the day I'd take the thing apart and put it back together. I really don't care anymore. Just want it to workGnash
- Moldero: Apple has been behind PCs in raw power since the late 90s. Motorola's G4 couldn't keep up with Intel's pentium, IBM's G5 was lagging Intel's Xeon andzarkonite
- then they switched to Intel but their refresh cycle means they're behind 75% of the time. They only catch up at launch and lose out 3 months later when Intelzarkonite
- updates their CPU but Apple doesn't...zarkonite

"According to an iFixit teardown, Apple's new 4K 21.5-inch iMac has both removable RAM and a Kaby Lake processor that's not soldered onto the logic board."
- After you take off the screen! After slicing through the adhesive! Haha. Apple considers them non-user replaceable.formed
- My car's dashboard is replaceable too. And my wood floors, too.formed
- Who the hell will go to all that trouble though to replace ramcanuck
- Sounds like it would void warranties, too.formed
- lolBennn
- ... or you could just buy a PC, unscrew 4 screws and have access to all the components. Oh and re-use your screen when/if you upgrade and save tons of $$.zarkonite
- SERIOUS: what 5K 27" screen of that quality is saving tons of money? I want to build a Hackintosh, but can't find anything even remotely cost effective.monospaced
- oh... this is the 21inch ... I still want a 4-5k 27" external display ... what should I get?monospaced
- http://www.lg.com/us… - that monitor is great for video and it's only about 1200$. 31", 4k, DCP-P3, etc.zarkonite

GOODBYE IPOD, AND THANKS FOR ALL THE TUNES
blob:http://imgur.com/040c8bfb-d...
"THE IPOD DIED slowly, then all at once. After nearly 16 years on the market, more than 400 million units sold, and one Cupertino company launched into the stratosphere on its back, Apple quietly pulled the iPod Nano and Shuffle out of its virtual stores today. The iPod Touch still lives on: In fact, Apple now offers the Touch with 32 gigs of storage starting at $199. But that's not a real iPod; it's an iPhone-lite. Today officially marks the end of Apple's era of standalone music players."

http://i.imgur.com/3…PonyBoy - not surprising from this company. I put different OS on my old nano, and it was perfect for bike rides.section_014
