Maybe the next big social network will learn from what Facebook refuses to acknowledge. One of my favorite humans right here:

"it can be, but it could be modeled more toward that end also"
elaborate Zoop?
- there is zero direct monetary return for information provided by the user, fb won't modify their policy, no motiveZOOP
- only when a mass exodus occurs will this be considered, by then it will likely be too late for fbZOOP
- look for the next incarnation to be a hybrid, learning from sites that monetize input based on value, but also...ZOOP
- a focus on ease of use, and open policies. this assumes people will backlash against broad reaching ToS policiesZOOP
- which at present most don't care about enough, or simply aren't aware of, I fear the latter is true thoughZOOP

^ that's fucking dark.
it means facebook, which is subject to the whim of the US govt, has proven they can manipulate our emotions. clearly a short (nonexistent) step from manipulating our views on different subjects.

Crazy stuff. I can see them targeting certain demographics and having "proof" that their "strategies" can influence sales, beyond just ads. Can you imagine how much that will be worth?
I see no reason they can't also alter the "news" and influence voting. Fox and MSNBC blatantly highlight what they want to say and disregard the rest, no reason FB can't do the same.
