back when i was a PC nazi, I was so proud that I knew how to get into DOS and fix my constantly crashing and problematic PC's. ever since I got into macs, i just find myself working on what I'm supposed to be working on.

https://pcpartpicker.com/ - parts at the best price
https://pay.reddit.com/r/buildap… - help if you need it.
https://qbn.com - to tell you how baddy you screwed up.PC parts now are so not an issue; most people (at least in my little circle of peers) have media rooms / offices and have multiple boxes for various tasks. seedbox, media server, work machine and a gaming rigs. (more if you include tablets and labbys) this isnt a jab at any one platform since you can run them all in unison. Desktop aren't dead, they have been stabilized and are the backbone of most development. although it's nice that the laptop has caught up in performance. parts have become dirt cheap, especially hdd space, you're paying 40 cents on the gig now! and there's SSD at incredible prices! golden age of computers we're in!
- laptops really have not caught up in performance... a desktop i7 is quite different than a mobile/ultrabook i7monNom

if i can suggest one addition to your build cost: get a 3rd party heatsink. i use thermalright but there are many others out there. it's a 80 buck heatsink that works wonders, drops cpu operating temps by 20 in my case. i run around average 30c cpu temps.
a rundown - http://www.tomshardware.com/revi…
- http://www.thermalright.com/prod…
- http://www.coolermaster.com/cool…they look funny but they definitely pull their weight. they range from 30 bucks to 100 usd but very worth it, that is if you dont want to mess with liquid cooling whatnots.
hyper 212 evo on a mobo with dual cpu sinks. (a system with 16 cores)
thermalright Noctuaone last tip, make sure your motherboard has extra power headers for the extra 140mm fans. also at least for thermalright, they run silent. can't hear a thing.
