A board of experts and scientists said today, talking about Canada, that a return to normal will not happen soon, it will take many months, maybe more. We will need to keep some control measures for a long time. A vaccine isn't expected for the mass before a year and this is the only option to stop all this.
So we're in this for a while guys.
- Problem with C19, its very contagious and many people have light symptoms and think its something else than C19.. infect othersBennn
- I disagree, if you dont get any new cases in a 2 week period and can isolate everyone infected you could mitigate the spread.eryx
- You would need massive mandatory ongoing testing especially at air ports. Results would have to be very rapid.eryx
- But as far as totally normal it is going to take months for sure.eryx
- I think it's impossible to stop the virus outside mass vaccination. It's impossible to control everyone that much to stop it by isolationBennn
- Stoping it completely no but isolation and massive testing will allow some areas to loosen restrictions.eryx
- Yeah maybe but each time you'll loose restrictions, orhers small waves of infection will spread againBennn
- True, it really depends on the types of test we can devise. If it takes 2 days from exposure to a positive result let's say..eryx
- Anyone traveling into a community would have a 2 day quarantine and then be tested again before releases.eryx
- It seems very impractical I know but 2 days is much better the 14. This incubation period of C19 is the real problem.eryx
- YesBennn
- To resume, we're in this for a whileBennn
- they're working with the knowledge available bennn. in a few weeks this could all change.kingsteven

Why many viruses comes from China.
- Seriously, they should burn these markets with fire. Especially anyone involved in rhino or tiger parts!Projectile
- its disgustingBennn

Chinese researchers isolated deadly bat coronaviruses near Wuhan animal market
- business as usual down theregrafician
- The wet market just reopened... Still selling bats and other wildlife slaughtered right on site. Fuck all this.Bennn
- Pangolins look like little baby dinosaurs. I think we should not be eating anything that looks like dinosaurs.mg33
- different countries, different proteins. you eat what's available. it's ridiculous how some people condone eating X over Y. hop out of your bubble.lvl_13
- True lvl except that for the most part it’s the affluent eating bats and pangolins and tiger penis_niko
- ^^what niko said. They're a "delicacy" - and no one should be eating bats. They're highly metabolic animals that incubate highly metabolic Corona virusesKhurram
- All recent Corona viruses were linked to bats - SARS (China) MERS (Middle East) Ebola (Africa) and Covid-19 (China)Khurram
- And they're not all China either, so all anti-China xenophobes can also shut the fuck up.Khurram
- mers is from camels though.uan
- via bats. In fact, it is probable that even SARS and this one came from poultry via batsKhurram
- BBC Radio 4 Inside Science program from last week, they went deep into it, so I don't know. I'm no virologist.Khurram
- This one: https://www.bbc.co.u…Khurram
- I was browsing viruses in Wikipedia...there are tons of others and also small epidemic outbreaks in our history.uan
- also viruses mutate in loops. they can stem off and mutate multiple times then (as we see it) mutate back to be the same virus.kingsteven
- Its how they treat animals my problem with them. Fuck them for this.Bennn
- You can point the finger at 90% of the planet with that comment, Benn, not just China. Fuck whom?Khurram
- of course, but we re talking about these chinese wet market nowBennn
- This is old news.Maaku
- Sooo, none of you actually read the article? SMHKrassy
- never heard of a newspaper called washington times... isn't it washington post? hmmm.....sandpipe
- Yes you should all write to Chinese gov.
Gotta let them know what you think.pango

8hFunny how characteristically each country reacts to the coronavirus. China tracks its citizens' every move. Hungary becomes a dictatorship. The US gives money to businesses. The Japanese conceal the problem. The British bravely but stupidly seek herd immunity.
- Canadians Stay inside, get drunk and fuck.eryx

Wet markets reopen in China.. because .. you know.. corona

So Sydney has gone full police state..
$11000 fine for being outside without a reasonable excuse
No gathering more than 2 people.. everything has ground to a half.. only supermarkets and a few other shops open.. and there is now restrictions on how much alcohol you can buy..These are not powers the government is going to let go of even long after this crisis ends
- Why won't there? I'm more shocked at the fine amount. What a joke. $50 would have been enough of a deterrent.inteliboy
- Australia is a fucked police state like that though. Our fines are insanely expensive.inteliboy
- It’s just how it is hereautoflavour
- No mate, relax, we have the same restrictions in Europe - sure, the fines are like $200 - but this is needed now.grafician
- We have to fill some basic forms to tell we're we going when going out. That's it. Everybody got it. No full beaches and ppl having fun. I mean...grafician
- Australia govt loves finding revenue in anything.sothere
- it's not the rules, it's the $11k fines that is absurd. but I guess makes a giant statement. I can only imagine what it'd be like if this happened back in USA.inteliboy
- "but this is needed now." REALLY? I bet you're a fun person to be aroundIanbolton
- no mate, I'm just sitting this one out so in case I have it, I don't go out spreading it and kill someone's mum by any chance!grafician
- then again we don't take shit from out Gov, not like Hungary that went full dictatorship rn :)) or you guys with your shitty Govgrafician
- then again and again, who expected anything better from a Gov that waited the big fires last summer and did nothing!grafician
- sure $11k (who the fuck picked this number, randomly?!) seem a lot, but ppl are stupid everywhere and don't stay indoorsgrafician
- How are the fines absurd? The whole point of this is to create a deterrent so that people don't — as grafician rightly points out — kill someone else's mum ...Continuity
- ... with this thing.
High fines and even prison time are just fine with me, if it teaches people to be considerate of others.Continuity - Not that I think about it, $11k must be like 2-3x times the normal wage in Aus?
We have $200 fines, which are about 40% of our normal wage heregrafician - Bavaria has leeway for fines of up to 25 000 €Continuity
- Nyc will offer $500 fines if people are in groups. But the idea of dining for JUST being out is not okay.monospaced
- in uk they reported it as 5k fine but actually that's for multiple repeat offenceskingsteven
- the rich are stll havin a good time then.neverscared
- not really ,never, that's not how it worksmonospaced
- I'm ok with that.pango
- Meanwhile 10% of cases in Australia have been traced back to the fucking cruise ship that offloaded in Sydney. Fine those twats.MrT
- russian city is jailing people who caused someone's death by spreading the virus to them.pango
- ^ Haha. Busy jails then as virus's spread through peopleIanbolton

- The question is, how long does a peak last before it all substantially goes down.Continuity
- Beginning to think this is pretty much done. We're just testing more and "finding" more cases, but I think in many places at least 50-60% have it alreadygrafician
- I wouldn't be so quick to jump to that conclusion. Especially considering this thing comes in waves.Continuity
- and with all these lockdowns, it can't go nowhere else. We only see explosions of new cases because many countries test more now, but that's itgrafician
- Well, *if* everyone respected the rules, then yeah, there would be nowhere for this thing to go. But they don't respect the rules, do they?Continuity
- Just this past weekend, Munich police issued 133 citations to people breaking the lockdown rules. Still huge groups of people gathering in parks and the riverContinuity
- I don't see this thing coming in waves - we're just unprepared and had no immunity but after many of us develop immunity it's pretty much done, we'll see!grafician
- Your optimism is heartening, grafician. :DContinuity
- Well fuck it, what can we do anywaygrafician
- I like your optimismmonospaced

Coronavirus death rate is lower than previously reported, study says, but it's still deadlier than seasonal flu
By Arman Azad, CNNhttps://edition.cnn.com/2020/03/…
"The research, published in the medical journal The Lancet Infectious Diseases, estimated that about 0.66% of those infected with the virus will die."

Shitface Erdogan asked donations for government live on TV!!
What a shameless cunt this creature is, what a merciless, heartless, soulless, rotten piece of turd he is.
Even thieves have more honor than this soul sucker, this cocksucker spent central bank's emergency fund right before elections to give the impression that economy is fine, he imposed heavy taxes right afterwards, and like that wasn't enough he shows his ugly satanic face on TV and asks for money while he hides his billions in offshore ships and countries.I don't have enough english to curse this motherfucker, I curse in Turkish like Willem Dafoe. My happiest day will be when is dragged on the streets and torn apart into pieces to be fed to street dogs.
- Thieves with honour. What a bizarre concept in this time, like the favela gangs in Brazil enforcing quarantines because Bolsonaro won't. What strange times.Continuity
- But yeah, Erdogan is a subhuman waste of DNA.Continuity
- this shithead, then putin and then the other shithead in charge in Hungary!grafician
- Fuck Erdogan, wannabe dictatorNBQ00
- well, anyway, most dictators end up shot, so...grafician
- or ofc get infected and game overgrafician
- god I love that speech in the lighthouseinteliboy
- the gov is currently asking the public for donations, ppl are pissed but powerless. even tougher times ahead, both economic & social, recovery is pas possible.********

From a CUNY survey (surveying New Yorkers):
More than a third of respondents said they or someone in their household had lost a job.
Nearly 60 percent of those who pay rent said they feared being evicted.
A third of city residents said they were seriously considering moving.
- There is very little reason to live in NYC under a lockdown.nb
- Except if you live here, derp.monospaced
- I'm paying NYC rents to sit in my tiny apartment 23.5 hrs per day.nb
- Which is a great reason to live in NYC during a lockdown ;)monospaced
- I've an offgrid place upstate & i wish i could just put my rent on hold for 6 months, but moving & re-finding a good/cheap new place in 6 months is no sexy ideahardhat
- I'm about to close on a new house and move in 6 weeks! I'm freaking out.monospaced
- I had to fire myself yesterday. Yay NYC! Can't form an LLC for my side gig because in NYC that would derail Unemployment regardless of revenue. Fun.MrAbominable
- to be fair, probably more than 1/3 of manhattan turns over every 2 years. So that considering the "to move thing" is probably a constant metric.MrAbominable
- in 2016, 1/3 of the country was considering moving to Canada ;)monospaced
