"Johnson & Johnson (JNJ) Announces a Lead Vaccine Candidate for COVID-19"
"The Company expects to initiate human clinical studies of its lead vaccine candidate at the latest by September 2020 and anticipates the first batches of a COVID-19 vaccine could be available for emergency use authorization in early 2021, a substantially accelerated timeframe in comparison to the typical vaccine development process."

Germany handling this outbreak remarkably well.
Any German QBNrs care to share what's the approach in Germany?
- I think their government was much more prepared than others & people obey rules.Beeswax
- Well, for one thing, the national health care system here is robust. For another, testing was done SK-style. And the government was pretty quick to react ...Continuity
- ... when they saw what was happening in Italy. And yeah, people obey the rules, here, for the most part. You should see the dirty looks I get from some GermansContinuity
- ... when I cross the street on a red light.Continuity
- One interesting thing I read this morning is that DE has twice as many free/available ICU beds as Italy has in total (free or taken).Continuity
- Gives you a sense of the robust nature of the health care system, as well as the overall level of preparedness.Continuity
- @Continuity thank you for the info. What's "SK-style?"Krassy
- South Korea-style. Testing is/was a big deal here, in order to capture more accurate data, and to make more informed decisions.Continuity
- It's obviously not perfect: people are still falling ill, and some people are dying. But, hopefully, the measures help bring things under control.Continuity
- Testing is so crucial!Krassy
- I read somewhere that Germany is transporting French people in to treat them !Krassy
- Yup. There are enough free beds here that DE is taking patients from France and, I think, Spain and Italy.Continuity
- And what is the treatment? The death rate is so low in DE. Do you have a cure there for covid-19?Krassy
- Good question, I really don't know, I'm afraid. But, the death rate looks low because of high testing, in part.Continuity

Trump supporters like to praise Trump by saying he is doing "everything he can" to stop the virus, but really he could be donating his hotels and properties to be converted into temporary hospitals.
That would be doing more. You can't argue he's doing everything he can.
- politics or Trump thread, please. TnxKrassy
- He could do nothing and it would be better than what he is doing now.monospaced

Yup, Germany is ahead
"Germany will issue coronavirus antibody certificates to allow quarantined to re-enter society
Researchers to test thousands for immunity as Berlin plans exit strategy for pandemic lock down"- Well, that is certainly good news!Continuity
- remarkable!Krassy
- Ah, but according to Spiegel, the first results probably won't be available until end of April. Still, this is a good approach.Continuity

re: Germany - I wanted to make some pseudo-joke weeks back in the 'Predictions???' thread about people either with or without C-19 wearing yellow arm bands to signify their new found status in society. I couldn't formulate it well, so didn't bother.
Wish I had now, especially given it's Germany that's planning on issuing allowances for people to go out in public, which would've been somewhat ironic.
Not that I don't think it's a good idea - it's the only way I can think for society to start picking up the pieces.. although my thought was "well, people are going to start forging the armbands/certificates, aren't they?".
Mind you, the flip side is - apparently here in the UK there's been a spate of people attacking NHS workers going to and from work - which boggles my tiny little mind as I can't begin to understand the mentality that would lead to that. Visible arm-bands wouldn't be good with shitheads like that about.
- also you can bet your bottom dollar there'll be fakes everywhere within minutes...hans_glib
- Nairn, you have to remember that a number of people in the UK are idiots.PhanLo

The head of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention said it’s a big mistake in the U.S. and Europe “that people aren’t wearing masks” in public.

- sure but how many poor people 20, 30, 40 years ago had children when in poverty, and now all in poverty. If you can't afford children, maybe don't...shapesalad
- Sounds cruel, but in London / NY/ Tokyo, expensive cities, the 'rich' are not breeding as they can't afford it.shapesalad
