America's manufacturing and infrastructure is too weak and ill prepared to fight the Coronavirus because we shipped all of our manufacturing, pharmaceuticals and jobs to China. We now solely rely on China to help us out because our government blows ass and Wall Street only cares about profits.
Thank You China for Making America Great Again!
We owe you bigly, God Bless America.- Yep, and most other practical jobs to immigrants. A country full of pretend rich people.ben_

- Same with the UK. Stripped out manufacturing, sold everything off to private equity in favour of a service based economy.monoboy

Hours after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a statewide stay-at-home order Wednesday, he quietly signed a second order that seemed to override restrictions put in place by local governments to halt the spread of coronavirus.
The second order states that the restrictions put in place by the state “shall supersede any conflicting official action or order issued by local officials in response to COVID-19.” In other words, local governments cannot place any limitations that would be more strict than the statewide guidelines.

to be honest worried about the toll taken on mental health and general disaster fatigue by a majority of the people, and how-at least in america-if there is no major systemic change following this disaster, it could completely fracture the psyche of the public to trust anyone or anything.

Asked why the UK was not taking part in the EU scheme to source life-saving ventilators , the prime minister’s official spokesman had earlier said: “We are no longer members of the EU.” He stressed that the UK was “making our own efforts” in this area.
But after critics accused Boris Johnson of putting “Brexit over breathing”, a No 10 spokesman clarified that it had missed out because of an error and would consider participating in future.
It is understood the UK claims not to have received an email from the EU asking it to participate.

i don't get it, trump is talking about "tens of thousands of ventilators quickly" whatever that means and everything is tippy top with companies (read my pillow) pitching in, millions of masks...
also, i see videos of doctors saying they have nothing. governors complaining and moaning...

So bleak end game scenario.. but I can’t help but think about all these nuclear reactors around the place that need humans to keep them running.. humans with highly specialized knowledge that isn’t just transferred over night.. humans who are susceptible to covid
Best case scenario power is interrupted for a while..
worst case.. *shudders- That really only is a problem if everyone is sick and hospitalized.monospaced
- Best case is that they are essential workers, there are redundant skilled workers and they are following safety guidelines and power is uninterrupted.monospaced
- As it happens, Germany authorised the deployment of 15,000 soldiers to assist civil authories, and to also safeguard infrastructure, like nuclear plants.Continuity

''Even a perfect response won’t end the pandemic. As long as the virus persists somewhere, there’s a chance that one infected traveler will reignite fresh sparks in countries that have already extinguished their fires.''
''Under these conditions, there are three possible endgames: one that’s very unlikely, one that’s very dangerous, and one that’s very long.''
''1. The first is that every nation manages to simultaneously bring the virus to heel, as with the original SARS in 2003. Given how widespread the coronavirus pandemic is, and how badly many countries are faring, the odds of worldwide synchronous control seem vanishingly small.''
''2.The second is that the virus does what past flu pandemics have done: It burns through the world and leaves behind enough immune survivors that it eventually struggles to find viable hosts. This “herd immunity” scenario would be quick, and thus tempting. But it would also come at a terrible cost: SARS-CoV-2 is more transmissible and fatal than the flu, and it would likely leave behind many millions of corpses and a trail of devastated health systems.''
''3. The third scenario is that the world plays a protracted game of whack-a-mole with the virus, stamping out outbreaks here and there until a vaccine can be produced. This is the best option, but also the longest and most complicated.''
