NSFL should have been banned from day 1.

All I ask is that QBN doesn't start censoring things and becoming a Facebook-like site. If Simon's, and other tasteful nudes, can't be shown, that would be censorship, imho.

    • see, i appreciate the nsfl thread, but fuckit, i'm not precious about it. It, and others, don't need to be front and centre on an open design forum.Nairn
    • NSFL is our 4chan level threadsted

Always thought QBN was like a little slice of the whole internet, good and bad. Only the most poisonous things should be removed. I didn’t think those threads were poisonous and they gave me a little smile every once in a while. Oh well.

    • A little slice of the whole internet but somehow 99% male? Gimme a breaknb
    • so what, it's not that the site isn't open to women. If they're not interested so be it.srhadden

    COTD has to go!!!!

    • yeah, first this shit popped up i was running pro-cons in my head. and the strongest argument the cons could make was about the QBNres kids and the next gen.sted
  • omahadesigns-1

    We should do it already.

  • oey_oey0

I support Simon but I wasn't checking COTD everyday to see if he posts something new so I really don't care about those threads and my opinion about all of this I will keep it for myself.

I use to check them, do very rarely nowadays but we need a way to let Simon show or announce a new work or session if we are interested in his work and want to support him.

    • Simon could post in ‘recent work...’ threadGnash

    Good. Long overdue.

I've said it before: I manage a small team of young female designers, and I would never, ever, direct them to join QBN because of the NSFW stuff.

There are a billion porn sites out there and a thousand ways to share tit and ass pics (and NSFL shit) with strangers. Do it there.

    • I almost forgot this was a site for designersfooler
    • Make QBN Great Againi_monk
    • wait, there's porn on the internet??sarahfailin
    • same. I know a bunch of great female ADs and CDs that don't know about this place but don't want to point them here bc of the filth.shellie

    Censorship blah balh.

    It's more like this:

A beautiful neighbourhood of elegant town houses are built in the late 1800's. The owners work hard to pay for their houses and enjoy their humble lives. They have good values, morals and look after each other... The neighbourhood is desirable, liveable, it looks pleasant, calm, cared for.

    Gradually time passes...

The cost to maintain the houses rises and the residents grow old, their children move on... The houses are still valuable, young couples move in and renovate them, and the cycle continues...

Except for one house, which falls into an almost ruined state, needing a new roof, etc... it's sold at auction. To a buy-to-let builder. He sets his crew to work on it, splitting it up into bedsits. He then rents it to the council and earns a nice yield.

However the council houses the disaffected there, and the once peaceful neighbourhood starts to see an increase in anti-social behaviour. An older resident is mugged, another burgled.. etc...

    Time passes...

The young families that renovated the old houses are now old themselves... and move on... the houses are increasingly being bought up by buy-to-let landlords. Crime has increased. Graffiti tagging is everywhere. No one cares for the front gardens. There's trash blowing about and needles in the gutter...

Young couples look at the houses, but are put off by the 'vide' of the neighbourhood.

    Time passes..

Eventually, the once lovely cared for neighbourhood is simply a ghetto and there's big talk on the local news of pulling it all down and rebuilding it as social housing or selling the land off to help pay off the council deficit.

The NSFW content on QBN is like that first buy-to-let landlord.

I've known QBN since the more design focused Newstoday era.

Frankly QBN is a bit embarrassing in the last few years. Chick/butt/boob of the day / is far too frequently at the top the list in the side bar.

It puts people off, and soon qbn will be nothing but a repository of filth. Nothing to do with Design.

It's not about 'censorship'. It's about creating a good neighbourhood.

I'm guilty of posting some fairly unpleasant things in the past, opinions I normally keep to myself and disregard, and certainly wouldn't post anywhere else on the web... but when you see the NSFW content around here, somehow it 'encourages' a change in mindset.

So I'd be supper happy to see QBN be more creative industry focused.

    • "I've known QBN since the more design focused Newstoday era. "
lol, clearly not, in that case. Go have a look way back then - same as it ever was.

    • haha, this place has always been brutal if anything the NSFW threads are a gentrification - building a wall between neighbourhoodskingsteven
    • that was only removed because it cost too much to maintain.kingsteven
    • I used to think that, but sometimes I get sent back to the start of a thread after a post and 15 years back folk are arguing the same in the commentsPhanLo
    • It's just that the names are people who've long since left and got on with their lives. Lol.PhanLo
    • I don't remember porn on newstoday. I used to have a personal account, posted my early portfolio on there. Used to look at newstoday at work with no shame.shapesalad
    • A lot of the people who post in those threads don't add anything anywhere else, it's like they came here by accident.PhanLo
    • Omaha posted more in COTD than any design related places.PhanLo
    • COTD wasn't around in the Newstoday era but NT was not more design focused. There have always been a majority of nonsense threads and pointless hostility.CyBrainX
  • cherub2

I didn't want to be serious but here goes...

I don't pay anything to use the site. As much entertainment as I get out of the NSFW threads, if it helps keeps the lights on, sure go ahead delete them. I guess you are taking a conservative approach.

No problem here, there is plenty of porn on the web, it's not like this was the only place to find it. Could find porn literally anywhere.

What I really like about QBN. This is a "family meeting" ha

So where are we posting our testicles?

Censorship won. Maybe it's time we part ways. Everything comes to an end and my relationship with this site is each day more painful than the last one. I'll seek the future instead of holding on to the past.

Did any of you have a wank to COTD or the NSFW threads?
Hopefully no-one had their wankbank cut off.

Be shame if you couldn't smash one out of an evening, jumping between COTD and the Politics thread.

This is the most interactive the site has been in ages.

I feel like QBN keeps it pretty civilised if we're talking about the NSFW stuff

I'm of two minds on this.

Having these threads gives off sour vibes for potential new members because they are totally unnecessary and having BOOBS OF THE DAY isn't a good first impression. It's not 2010, and it just seems childish and superfluous.

On the other hand, I've been around for over a decade (former name: snarl), which is long enough to know that there will be a spillover into other threads because we have an inextinguishable contingent of users with debatable mental stability that will start shitposting out of spite if the threads are closed.

I think the threads should be phased out, but there should be an option to have them seen, and that should be a buried opt-in for new users.

Followup question that I know won't be answered: Hi QBN, who the fuck are you?

  • shapesalad2

    Dark mode?

    • I upvoted but consider there are a lot of old people here, might be too much for their eyesgrafician
  • zarkonite7

Before we had those threads we had NSFW/L content popping up randomly all over the place.

I'm all for keeping it clean but what's the plan when that starts happening again?

I also think forcing Simon to post in the NSFW thread was an insult to the quality of his work.

    • Agreed on the Simon thing. His work isn't smut for smut's sake.garbage
  • SteveJobs24

    One vote here for removal.

Though not for reasons of moderation, but rather a community that's grown rather stale, closed off, and too singular-minded - in my so humble and likely unwanted opinion.

I don't care so much for the quality of the content as I do for new, interesting folks, which add to the diversity and dilute the hive mindedness I see around here all too often. (ie. I'm not particularly for or aginst grafician's posts, but why is he always downvoted?) Feels a bit like high school around here at times and I think a cleaner community would be more welcoming for would-be contributors on the lurk and any who happen upon the site in the future.

Personally I've been wondering if this site, even as a distraction, is a good investment of my time at this stage of my life, but there's my input nonetheless.
