must've been around 2001-2002? something like that.
i'd been a massive fan of k10k, Zeldman, pixelsurgeon, and on and on etc...you know all the rest of those sites....
i think my path was k10k - Holodeck73 - newstodayand if i recall correctly, one of the first things i did on NT was get in an arguement with transfatty lol....
anyhow, I've been here a long, long time. I announced the birth of my daughter here back in the day, and she's about to turn 19 this summer...
like it was mentioned before...
came for the design, stayed for 'teh drama' ;)

My first internship in 2010 had this website as default when you opened the browser on the computer which i was working on. Some dude before me lurked on QBN.

2008. First even non-freelance job. Looked over the other designer's shoulder, and there were some cool images. I asked about the site and the rest is history.
I think a couple of days later they fired half the company, other designer included

From memory I found the place searching for answers to Photoshop questions, and stayed for the PV and the incredible world of design that the broadcast channels opened me up to.
I still have some Design by Build prints in storage that I bought off here way back when, I found them the other day when I was spring cleaning.

After H73 randomly changed its page. Was annoyed. NT looked stupid and boring. Though within a few weeks was hooked.
Then would hear "newstodayyy" jingle on the other end of the line when on the phone to a friend... he clearly tuning out and surfing the internet. We started using the jingle as our own in joke when the other was vagueing out.

I was in college and most likely got here via gmunk, famewhore, transfatty–just blew my young mind. The chime really had other design students curious every time I opened the page. HA! I lurked for quite a long time before my balls dropped and finally signed up.
My balls thank you.

Work flew me up to Sydney from Melbourne to see the Semi-Permanent design conference. Newstoday were one of the guest speakers. Can't recall the year now but it was awesome! Anyone else go to that?

I went to the Art School's Library I was attending and there was this guy checking Newstoday next to me and this happened several times.
And one day I did a collab for a magazine from Lisbon and the web designer of this magazine was also checking Newstoday. I was like hm...it looks good...a lot of stuff for my eyes but definitely good.
So I started to check regularly till I met kodap and he was the person who I got the click from that made me sign up.
This is my third or fourth account.
- Are you still in contact with Kodap?Nairn
- When I go to Portugal I see him when I visit the town he lives. Maybe I saw him 5 times in the last 5 years. That guy helped me a lot.oey_oey
- If he know my website is still not ready after 10 years he'll kill me.oey_oey
- He was/is a good bloke. Part of a group of users I still somewhat miss.Nairn
- As a person, he's really calm, reliable, helpful, simple and a really great guy that happens to be extremely talented.oey_oey

I used to check its predecessor h73 or whatever it was called, and then one day it was called Newstoday so I joined. 2000, 2001?

Got a login in late '09 (was sure it had been earlier), presumably I stumbled across it on Google. Software guy (not your sort of designer) and so have mostly lurked.

I can't recall how I ended up at Newstoday exactly, but back in 2004 I had just started my first full time web design / development job out of school and I wanted to stay current on design trends and was mostly impressed with Flash and stumbled on NT.
I was happy to get the 50% off MT discount for life (too bad that didn't pan out) and was very intimidated by the harsh criticism unleashed on anyone brave enough to post a website for a site critique and thought that it might ruin my confidence if I posted anything I designed.
I did (and do) still get a lot of inspiration and ideas from coming here although I have no idea how it keeps running and who pays for hosting, etc without ads, merch or the old job board.

Christ, I can't remember. 2004 was a long fucking time ago. I was working nights designing newspaper ads for a local paper at that time, hopped up on cigs and Red Bull, so I'm sure that has something to do with it.

Not sure .. I thought I remembered coming to read the curated music reviews on NewsToday to discover new music, but now I'm not even sure that was NewsToday that had the reviews...
I struggle to remember what happened last week, let alone nearly 20 years ago :(
