can update
"Tickets linked to stolen passports for missing Malaysia flight were purchased by Iranian man, authorities say. "
Oh man. this is a movie in the making.

I'm not buying the whole terrorism thing. There'd have been some sort of claim of responsibility by now.
No, sadly, flight 370 suffered some sort of catastrophic electronic or mechanical failure, and is now at the bottom of the ocean.
- They were Iranian. You know any Iranians who ARENT terrorists? I dont.CygnusZero4
- I don't know any Iranians, and I'm perfectly happy giving the majority of them the benefit of the doubt.Continuity
- you may be right, but it is an interesting way this is all being learned.capn_ron
- Do you know any Iranians at all?ukit2
- Me? None at all.Continuity

Arne, it wouldn't have been the Russians. The last thing they need right now — even more so than fisticuffs with the US/Nato — is getting into a shooting match with China. That wouldn't end well for Russia.

Everything sounds like a movie, not only a plane disappeared making the news even more lasting, but you also have stolen passports, people that are alive and were apparently in the plane. I think they needed something else to get our attention from all the uprisings around the world. Wait and see how this story will eventually become a movie. However, in all seriousness RIP to all of those people it this turns out to be 100% real

All this government conspiracy stuff is ridiculous. Clearly the plane entered a rift in the space time continuum.

Hijacking maybe? China has systematically been executing muslims and tibetans for years along with a nationalist fist against any public forms of religious practice. Lately the Chinese government has been executing muslims at will. I would not be surprised that the hijacking is being kept secret until it is dealt with.... meaning people are safe and they can figure out what to say.
I do not buy it is a big ocean look at the path it was following.
Anyone have an update?
- You don't buy that planes crash ? And the ocean is a big area to search? .....good luck with that looney tunesmarychain
- "systematically"GeorgesIV
- The ocean is big that is the excuse. lol! Of course it has been hijacked!teh
- systematically like the Nazis executing jews the chinese are doing this to muslims and buddhists.teh
- mary & george dont be cunty!teh

I few back from Singapore to the UK with those guys (connection flight from Australia) and HOLY SHIT I have never been so scared on a plane.
There is turbulence, then there is Malaysia airways turbulence. And the pilot was pulling off harsh turns while coming in to land.
It was one of them flights where you look at the person across from you for reassurance and they give you the same look back. NO ONE WANTS THAT LOOK BACK AT THEM!

Of all the systems in all the world the NSA could snoop and collect data from, wouldn't airline reservation systems maybe be more fruitful than Skype?

Maybe the plain landed in China and the people who hijacked the plane want certain Muslims/Political prisoners released from Chinese custody?

There’s No Radar Tracking Airliners Over the Ocean
It is a misconception that airline pilots are in constant communication with air traffic control, or that planes are constantly watched on radar. Once a plane is more than 100 or 150 miles from shore, radar no longer works. It simply doesn’t have the range. (The specific distance from shore varies with the type of radar, the weather, and other factors.) At that point, civilian aircraft communicate largely by high-frequency radio. The flight crew checks in at fixed “reporting points” along the way, providing the plane’s position, air speed, and altitude. It isn’t uncommon to maintain radio silence between reporting points because cruising at 35,000 feet is typically uneventful. Some aircraft communication systems don’t require pilots call in; flight management computers transmit the info via satellite link.
- I get that there is no radar on planes, but don't you think they could upgrade to better communications?capn_ron
- think space travel, how do they stay in communication, or sonar, how do magnets work? answer me.capn_ron
- I agree, and I was surprised too, it's answered in the article, it's super expensivechrisRG
- Single engine pilot here....There are so many errors here...wired needs a fact checker.marychain
- so GPS is too expensive on a plane?BabySnakes

Whoa, just saw this on cnn on my phone.
"Flight 370 was last detected flying over a small island hundreds of miles from the flight's usual route, a Malaysian official said. "
