I've switch like 3 years ago.
Chrome is the same as Mac
Adobe's shit is the same as Mac
iTunes is the same
uTorrent is the sameIt's all the same!
Windows never crash anymore. Blue screens are thing of the past. Upgrading cost nothing compare to Mac.
I prefer to pay 1500-2000$ to have super bomb PC than paying 4000$ to have an OK Mac compare of the 2000$ PC. It's a personal choice.
- doesn't it bother you to have to use windows? I tried man.. It made me go crazy. I haven't screamed like that since I was a kidMiguex
- In kindergarden. The screen went black, I took it to the shop and they erased all my files, they make me pay money upfront and never fixed the thingMiguex
- never fixed the thing, it was a nightmare.. I'm 36 years old and I still sleep with my lights on since that dayMiguex

- upgrading a mac is hard?moldero
- Moldero, that's crazy talk. Windows is rock solid and PCs use the SAME hardware... think about it, if windows wasn't stable the internet wouldn't work and your tap water wouldn't come out.zarkonite

That's pretty close to what I am using now, plus Dell's 30" (amazing monitor).
I've added a 2TB SSD drive, but that's about it.There's nothing you need to "keep it running", it pretty much just works. It's been many, many years since windows "crashed" (my only real memories of using Macs were the crashing and ridiculous startup times).
I haven't reformatted a drive in over a decade. Not a bad idea, of course, but certainly don't think you need to.

On Purpose? Using windows will drive me to drink. The apps the same, but man that OS is shit.
- demafleez0
why? i prefer mac os but there's no denying more power for cheaper. I'm incorporating more apps that are PC only and bootcamping back and forth gets old.
- benfal990
a folder is a folder. I dont play around in Windows that much...
I'm always in Chrome or Photoshop...
- benfal990
it's a question of habits. I've never care less about the OS than now. I like both of them, Win and OSX... Like i've said, all the softwares i'm using are the same both ways and a folder is a folder... So.
again, personal choice. A few years ago i had no problem putting out 5,000$ for the last G5 ... but i'm more short on cash for this, i prefer to travel instead. That's why i switched to PC.

I use a Hackintosh, a WinDoze 7 Dell Laptop..... long ago, I've stopped really thinking about the OS and such, but I do have to update my Hackintosh every so often, a bit of a pain sometimes....
my tip.... WinDoze 7 is ok, still not sure about windows 8.... given that most of the apps I use are cross platform, I don't really miss much except the occasional unix command line or some mac text editors....
Notepadd++ is nice.... I'm sure there is better...
cygwin is a unix command line, I'm sure there is better
- hackintosh tower desktop, and a windoze 7 laptop, yes, sometimes I do stil get BSOD, but spinning beach ball is about the same...vaxorcist

I think it comes down to personal preference and previous experiences, e.g. crashes, failing hardware, etc.
I have both, used various versions of each OS and used both for years.
I personally prefer Mac. Reason being; from my own experiences I've had less problems which means I've said time fixing shit on PCs; time = money, so it probably balances out in the end.

when I've considered swapping a same spec PC has been equal to the price of an education mac. In the past, as pang says, I've had a lot less fuss with macs and far better service when something does go wrong.

I've switched to mac because when I'm at a client's office I look silly with some dell plastic thing :( Still running Windows often :D

ive always looked at dells as poor mans pcs, then again last time i seen one was when i lived stateside 8 years ago, ive been on mac pros for almost 10 years now, and before that i was building my own gamers pcs, this thread is leading me to believe Windows improved a lot, but have dells changed/gotten better?

- If you use pirated stuff, at least bu buy an original OS. It'll make everything run so much more problem free. This is news to no one. And get the OEM version. And get Windows 7, 8 sux.
- If you're getting a stationary (tower) PC, get a preassembled one with a support/service plan, from a wellknown company (can't think of others than Dell?). The parts are selected to work together. If you assemble yourself, you run the risk of weird hardware conflicts (though i must admit, this risk seems to be smaller these days...).
More expensive, but worth it.

Use Ninite for getting your basic apps up and running.
Text editor -> Sublime
Spotlight + Alfred -> SearchEverything + Launchy
Sketch -> Macaw (but not as good)I use a Mac at work and Windows at home. If it weren't for Mac running Rails and general dev tools better I would really not care which OS I used.
Provided I can alt+space+type the letter of the app I want to open, and alt+tab to switch apps, then the OS doesn't matter to me.
Sublime, Balsamiq, Photoshop, Illustrator, SmartGit, Chrome, Slack/HipChat and Skype all work the same for me in both.
