surfito:
cool = $$$ in most peoples eyes.
a lexus is cool partly because it cost so much, and there is very little that is cool, which isn't also expensive.
by positioning yourself as 'cool' you also position yourself as upscale and expensive, something which CT isn't and shouldn't try to portray, because they will lose out on their low income/sensible-shopper market.

i think this was one of the fastest growing threads i've seen on NT thus far.... next to the praying or adofo suicide one.

mon
i agree with you..
i did research on the marekting approach that Target did in Europe.and that exactly what you are talking about.
i will try to find the document for it.. and post it...

Very good point, MonNom!
anyways, I know of more sites targeted at lower income cusomers...but still have a bit more consistent layout....they do however, use cheap-lookin' colors...which targets their audience...
It's all about branding... (well, not all...okay..)
- monNom0
what CT nline really needs is pics of you praying.
- mitsu0
lol mon, yes they do... yes they do
- MrDinky0

oh mister D, let me tell you something, users are stupid, they all think they know, they dont know anything, if you go around with a news crue around a big city asking women if size matters, they will all say that what matters is how you use it.
and thats a lie right there, another lie, do you like nice guys or bad guys? they will say nice guys, another lie, do you like good looks or good personality, they will say personality, another big lie.
thats why nothing in this world works, those are all excuses, excuses were invented by loosers.
the reality is that you put something good looking, and it will get people to look at it, and thats the first thing to grab the consumer.
we all still sit down and ask our selves, why the dot com industry went down?.
it was all because of ugly websites spending too much money on usability research and not spending that money in graphic design.
its like a guy who spends all his money buying books on how to pick up chicks at the bar, and doesnt spend the money in getting a haircut and buying a nice pair of shoes.
that site right now is hanging on a thin string, theyre 50% bankrupt and 50% succesfull.
look at the deal they made with the consulting company, if the thing doesnt work, the consulting company goes down, and more of us are in trouble.
the only way that site will survive is if the competitor doesnt come up with a better looking site.

i understand you and you cant make a custome site for every single one when you dont even know their knowledge level.
so you have to make a decision on median and go with it.
in any demographic, there is a bell curve so you follow that.
- MrDinky0
i dont know.. but do you guys think the three techies would have done a better job?

"most of ppl really dont care how things look like. as long as content is good and works fine, the site will generate revenue. "
that is the most ridiculous oppinion i've seen on NT so long.
- ribit0
I'm sure there are enough users out there who want content functionality AND QUALITY, to justify allocating a few thousand more (a tiny percentage) on a better visual design...
- surfito0
mon i said that the site looked god for the people theyre targeting.
you made a really good point.
my point on the design of the site, is that it has inconsistencies on the layout.
its not a very good visual composition.
