man, i regret staying at that one mediocre shop for so long. that shit did my portfolio no favors.
i'm having to hang the quality of my book on my personal stuff. it's kind of depressing.

I meet people at parties once in a while and they say "you're a designer eh, I need a logo for my boring business. How much do you charge?"
And then I tell them what I typically charge. And every time I get a "whoa, so expensive" response.
Do people expect me to say $100? Do they think there's 500 clients who need logos a year that I can live on that?

Funny how if you have a business, you're allowed to deduct your expenses necessary for your business. If you get penalties from the IRS, its necessary for your business to pay it. HOWEVER, you can't deduct it as a business expense?! So this expense becomes part of your income, which means you have to pay additional taxes on that penalty. That's a double-dealing tax corruption within the government.

I have about a dozen friends that live in Ankara still and today is the second time in a few weeks that a big explosiin has rocked the city. It's crazy seeing all the, "marked safe" posts on Facebook from them. Some of them are really rattled this time. Just three years ago I was partying it up in Kizilay where the explosions are happening. They are all in danger since that's the city centre where most restaurants and clubs are located. I moved there to continue my journalism studies and was hoping to make my way close to Syria. Ankara seemed like the safest place possible, but now it seems to be the hottest spot in all of Turkey. What's next for that beautiful country and its people. :- (
