    I feel like omg has to be a libertarian, because it's the easiest sort of "pro-capitalist, you're free if I tell you it's freedom" conservatism that has no accountability because it has no doctrine. It's just basically selfish, entitled cunts whose labor and stock of opinion has always been overvalued by society at large.

    So we're 9 months in to the Trump administration, and my biggest fascination continues to be how the same surreal disconnection from reality that was his campaign has translated to his time in office. For as insane as Trump is, dude might actually be pretty keyed in to media operations.

    The campaign did exactly what it needed to, in constantly breaking the conversation from repeating into a new bullet point headline. Any lull was met with some ridiculous outburst. Each tweet was breaking news.

    But in office, his dynamic is obviously different, but he's adapted pretty damn well in terms of his methodology. Trump has managed to go from fucking up the entire newsmedia minute to minute to completely upending their operations. Trump campaigned on the fact that the media was broken, and since he won, every bit of news on him is also an admission of defeat, and you can see how uneasy everyone on screen is about this entire situation.

    All of this exists on top of the real problem: politics. Washington is still going, barely, but right now the entire American government looks like a game of hot potato, with whoever gets left holding it will be the first in the gallows. Nobody is looking to lead, every 'leader' we have now has a shield for having no shame: the President doesn't, either. Callous remarks, blatant corruption, unending abuse of authority will be just the beginning for the precedent this administration has been able to set on disrupting the system to the advantage of the privileged few.

    I think there's a large swath of America which does not understand the coming storm of the idea of a superpower system of governance that does not adhere to any sort of norm or standard. America doesn't just suddenly recover after Trump, providing we get that far.

    • Partially agree, but I think it's more of a transition of "haha this fucking clown" to "shit we actually have to pay attention to this fucking clown".garbage

    NFL commissioner, players' union angrily denounce Trump

    The NFL and its players' union angrily denounced President Trump for suggesting that owners fire players who kneel during the national anthem and that fans consider walking out in protest "when somebody disrespects our flag."

    This latest act of attacking NFL players is the most transparent attempt yet to manufacture a racial controversy out of nowhere. No one asked him to comment on this, it's not even a current topic in the news.

    I don't know which is sadder...Trump or the fact that he apparently sees electoral benefits in this country in picking a fight like this.

    • The Prez is allowed to comment on current political conversation—no? Obama did it all the fucking time—and stirred up far more racial BS than the orange turd.PonyBoy
    • well... so far. :)PonyBoy
    • IDK the way I see it Obama commented maybe a handful of times on high profile issues after there was big outcry for him to say something in the black community.yuekit
    • I understand that still made certain conservatives see red...but it was always done reluctantly and not with the intention to inflame the situation.yuekit
    • Trump OTOH makes up racial controversy out of nowhere (birth certificate) and revives months old NFL issue no one was talking about.yuekit
    • Hard to read as anything other than a deliberate attempt to distract and divide people racially for his own benefit.yuekit
    • His presidency so far is a busted flush, so this and his sabre-rattling are the only things he can do.face_melter

    • Which do you think is a bigger representation of the NFL fan base? Blue liberal America, or red conservative America?IRNlun6
    • Players and the league have doubled down. I feel they're seriously miscalculating fans support for the NFL vs their own country.IRNlun6
    • Players have every right to free expression but they're going to have a hard time convincing people their action to kneel to the National Anthem...IRNlun6
    • ... shouldn't be perceived as anti-AmericanIRNlun6
    • I seriously doubt NFL fans are going to stop watching over one controversy. You overestimate peoples' loyalty to Trump.yuekit

    • Likes on Trump's tweet attacking athletes = 150k. Likes on Le Bron's tweet dissing Trump = 1.3 million.yuekit
    • We'll see. Either way, players and the league now have the largest available platform to articulate their protest. They're messing up an unforeseen opportunity.IRNlun6
    • You can claim this came out of nowhere. The moment Kaepernick decided to take a knee over a year ago many saw it as anti-American.IRNlun6
    • And the same league owners that are now coming out against Trump, are the same owners who won't hire Kaepernick.IRNlun6
    • but it's not :)monospaced
    • does the season pass owning, fantasy league playing, die hard fan see this as anti-American? my money would be on yes...IRNlun6
    • Exactly, a year ago. And Trump brings it up now when there are far more serious things going on.yuekit
    • You don't seem to grasp that you're being manipulated. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump views his own base with contempt.yuekit
    • Do you think he really believed in the birth certificate BS? Do you think Trump is a devout Christian? It's all just cynical manipulation.yuekit
    • Ah, it's about me now and how I'm manipulated, ok. Good talk.IRNlun6

    When DT tweets....
    Does threatening to destroy a country count here? Just asking:

    https://support.twitter.com/arti…

    Hateful conduct policy
    Freedom of expression means little if voices are silenced because people are afraid to speak up. We do not tolerate behavior that harasses, intimidates, or uses fear to silence another person’s voice. If you see something on Twitter that violates these rules, please report it to us.

    How our policy works
    As explained in the Twitter Rules,

    Hateful conduct: You may not promote violence against or directly attack or threaten other people on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religious affiliation, age, disability, or disease. We also do not allow accounts whose primary purpose is inciting harm towards others on the basis of these categories.
    Examples of what we do not tolerate includes, but is not limited to behavior that harasses individuals or groups of people with:

    violent threats;
    wishes for the physical harm, death, or disease of individuals or groups;
    references to mass murder, violent events, or specific means of violence in which/with which such groups have been the primary targets or victims;
    behavior that incites fear about a protected group;
    repeated and/or or non-consensual slurs, epithets, racist and sexist tropes, or other content that degrades someone.
    How our enforcement works
    Context matters.
    Etc...........
