As an avid observer of politics in this country, something is abundantly wrong when politicians in any party use the phrase "the American people believe/feel/want/etc" as a sweeping generalization of what we, the people, collectively want in the context of something that is clearly partisan.
Case in point, throughout the impeachment hearings over the past two weeks, Republican congress-persons have said "the American people see through this charade," or "The American people don't believe it." The fact that I'm just one guy that disagrees with that proves their statement is demonstrably false. The fact that I'm not alone in that view only compounds that.
It may just be me, but I find it as offensive as it is disingenuous as it is ignorant, and I really hope it stops some day.
Secondly, somehow, some day, someone is going to draw a direct line from Republicans assault on the quality of education in this country to the narratives these people have put forth to the Americans clearly in their court and clearly, willingly or otherwise, buying abject BS hook, line, and sinker. It's almost as if the failure to connect dots, the failure to think critically, the failure to recognize clear wrongdoing, and the failure to act on behalf of country before party, thrive and exist because of a supporting group that is unable to to discern fact from fiction, right from wrong, ethical behavior from unethical behavior, and moral perspectives from immoral ones. There's got to be a clear connection between these things. I think Trump said "I love the poorly educated" for an obvious reason, and while a lack of education by no means causes a person to be supportive of immorality, unethical behavior, lies, and coercion, there's got to be a connection between even basic critical thinking skills and rational analysis that would help the average person know when they're being played for a fool.
