Official press release regarding the NiceHash security breach
Unfortunately, there has been a security breach involving NiceHash website. We are currently investigating the nature of the incident and, as a result, we are stopping all operations for the next 24 hours.
Importantly, our payment system was compromised and the contents of the NiceHash Bitcoin wallet have been stolen. We are working to verify the precise number of BTC taken.
Clearly, this is a matter of deep concern and we are working hard to rectify the matter in the coming days. In addition to undertaking our own investigation, the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and law enforcement and we are co-operating with them as a matter of urgency.
We are fully committed to restoring the NiceHash service with the highest security measures at the earliest opportunity.
We would not exist without our devoted buyers and miners all around the globe. We understand that you will have a lot of questions, and we ask for patience and understanding while we investigate the causes and find the appropriate solutions for the future of the service. We will endeavour to update you at regular intervals.
While the full scope of what happened is not yet known, we recommend, as a precaution, that you change your online passwords.
We are truly sorry for any inconvenience that this may have caused and are committing every resource towards solving this issue as soon as possible.

let's do it.
- ArmandoEstrada0
Just bought $300 worth to dip toes. Made $6.38 in the last 20 minutes. Lets see how far this pony can ride.
- inteliboy0
weird that there's qbners only getting onto it now. guess it's not as nerdy as I thought around here.
- Nah, I started mining in 2013 for a bit, never really got anything so I left it alone. Thought it was a fad.ArmandoEstrada
- Because it stagnated for so long, everyone but the true believers lost interest.yuekit
- Pretty much...ArmandoEstrada
- I actually did use it back in the day for buying things online.yuekit
- I had 50 bitcoins 5 years ago x_x********
- 20 or 50, make you mind up?fadein11
- your*fadein11
- I sold 30 of them Einstein********
- how much did you make out of interest? genuine interest here. not bitter, just interested. when did you sell?fadein11
- I bought 50 when it was about £2 a bitcoin. I sold 30 of them when it rose to roughly £300 a few years later.********
- Thankfully I left 20 in there and pretty much forgot about it until a few weeks ago...********
- I've now withdrawn everything except the original £100 worth I put in...********
- ... and put that in iota. If all goes well I'll come back in a few years and do the same.********
- nice! enjoy :)fadein11
- what's your thoughts on Ethereum out of interest? i put some into that a while ago, do you think it could go as big as bitcoin. The partner deal soundsfadein11
- interesting. But I don't really have a clue (does anyone?) whether its a good punt or not.fadein11
- I don't really have a clue either. Not sure if anyone does though. IOTA interests me the most right now********

I like what Bitcoin is designed to become, but the current hype seems to be a gamble get-rich-quick phase. People are jumping on it not to support the original concept and help turn it into a decentralized currency, but instead to invest in hopes to make profit off it.
- Sure!ArmandoEstrada
- @ArmandoEstrada ha! my comment was not directed to you. I wrote it before scrolling up and seeing your post 2 up. Haha!Krassy
- ha!ArmandoEstrada
- What if the way a decentralized currency (Bitcoin or otherwise) becomes widely adopted is through a get rich quick hype?yuekit
- I think it might have to be. The more people that adopt it the better (for the decentralised currency better future, not so much for investors)********
- So I don't see a problem********
- Nothing wrong with investing and turning a profit as in similar with real estate or stocks, etc. But bitcoin is supposed to be a currency, and not an investmentKrassy
- You don't buy a sandwich, concert tickets, TVs, etc. with gold or stocks assets.Krassy
- That's where I see the issue with Bitcoin becoming more of an asset and less of a currency (like it was initially designed to be)Krassy
- It came to light as an illegal secret currency used years ago for purchasing drugs, guns, etc. on the Dark Web.Krassy
- The promise was that from there it could become a decentralized currency to be used for purchasing anything ...Krassy
- ...and eventually replace traditional government regulated currency such as the dollar and credit cards, etc.Krassy
- But what it has become currently, is a treasure chest full of gold buried somewhere in hopes it can be cashed one day. Investment. Not currency.Krassy
- I agree, Krassy.monospaced
- Sorry for the long monologue. This Colombian coffee just kicked in. LOL! Time to listen to some techno!Krassy
- lol********
- The thing is that Bitcoin by its nature was always going to increase in value the more people owned it. So the bubble aspect is an almost inevitable byproductyuekit
- of it being widely adopted. Whether that ruins it as a currency over the long run remains to be seen.yuekit
- Could ruin it or make it... That's where the wonder is...********

what wallet should I get?
- https://electrum.org… seems good according to https://bitcoin.orgBennn
- Bread is quite good for iOS alsoridg0026
- Bennn1
But seriously if "they" want Bitcoins to become mainstream, it will have to be WAY WAY WAY simplified cuz it's REALLY complicated and abstract at the moment for normal people.
- It's really not that complicated********
- next challenge is to figure out a system to avoid theft, but that might be just a question of time before some genius finds a good way to incorporate this.uan
- How much worth of Bitcoins do you have set?Bennn
- Theft is pretty much baked in. Low risk/high ROI. accessible worldwide. total anonymity. Very liquid... That's going to be tough to counter.monNom
- Set, are you lounging on a bed of bitcoins right now?Ianbolton
- of course he's notfadein11
- I've been lounging on them since I bought twenty - five years ago.********
- fairplay! sell and have a few years off then? why you sharing worthless coinbase referral offers then?fadein11
- Why are you so utterly petty and bitter? lol********
- It's hardly worthless if 10 people use it is... Why not? Cheer up.********
- just seemed like an offer a newcomer to the game would share not a seasoned 20/50 bitcoin veteran would.fadein11
- and you don't come across as the sort of person who wouldn't have mentioned this before. like i said fairplay though, congratsfadein11
- lol ok mate********
- It's really not that complicated

So, i have 0,002 Bitcoins at the moment :D
Anyone else using Coinbase?
Seems like the easy way to dive into Bitcoin, they manage everything... In hope they never get hack, but they seems like a very large and important company so I guess they have very secured stuff (lol..)
- NiceHash just got hacked for $70mildbloc

- convert to ETH and move ETH insteaddrgs
- why? (im a super newbie can you explain?)Bennn
- lower transaction fees, currently its 50 cents or sodrgs
- coinbase withdrawal fee is 1,5% i think, but on top you have a network fee specific to bitcoin. if the network is congested is can get up to 20 usddrgs

got in an ICO with 1 ethereum (around $300), 2 weeks later exchanged those tokens for 1.8 ethereum($450)
Find an ICO "in the product stage" and enter this craziness from there.
There are a bunch of ICOs but they are all in whitepaper stage in which you have to wait a long time until you see your coin getting traded and if you're lucky it's value goes up.- clarification - 1 eth was 450 when I sold it, and I was able to get 1.8 eth with those tokens.Beeswax

It's interesting to watch this hype around bitcoin nowadays. It's sad to see that majority of people look at this as something: "buy early cheap, sell later, party hard". That's not how creator(s), early adapters imagined bitcoin many years ago.
I personally was fascinated with the technology and the concept when I discovered it in 2011. It was so groundbreaking for me that I convinced my wife to start accepting bitcoins in the creperie she opened in DUMBO previously.
In fact we were one of the first in the world physical locations that accepted Bitcoin.
https://twitter.com/Ocrepes/stat…
The first bitcoin conference also kicked off in that Creperie.
There is a big mystery surrounds our first sale. Maybe I share it one day.
