Any one else in the same boat I am ... Not living in the country of your driving license/passport?

I've been going round in circles trying to get coinbase Identity validation to work - keep getting a failed message. then I finally read their support article which says they can't accept US passports as valid docs (weird)

So I use my US driving license even though I live in the UK, this one is pending but I expect it to fail as well because it goes on to say that

"If your ID document is issued by a country other than the country you are a resident of, it may not be possible to complete ID verification at this time. We're always working on improving our verification service and hope to support your specific situation as soon as possible."

    So I might be screwed?

    Anyone have any ideas?

In the time I've been faffing about with the the value of ripple has gone from 0.60 to $1.05 so annoying.

Also tried to set up a bitstamp account (you can buy ripple direct with $$$) and I get this:

    STATUS: PENDING
DUE TO THE INCREASE IN USER REQUESTS YOUR VERIFICATION REQUEST MAY TAKE MORE THAN 24 HOURS TO RESOLVE. THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.
Thank you for submitting your request. Unfortunately, we are currently experiencing high volumes of verification requests, causing backlogs of up to 2 weeks before they are processed. We are working very hard to approve your request as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience."

    So annoying.

Thinking of giving Kraken a go but also think I'll see the same issues? Any other ideas?

    • try other services, just dont end up signing up with one who will steal your moneyBennn
    • just sign in with anything that looks like an id (foto) and has your name on it...the same name you'll need to register your cc or bank later?uan

    • More complicated than that. Coinbase won't work if your country of residence doesn't match the country for your ID docs.flashbender

    • Thought of that but my gut says that will make getting funds out nearly impossible as I do not have a US bank accountflashbender
    • My dad is going through the same thing. Ripple will still be low enough for you to make massive profits by the time you get approved on bitstamp...brnmkg
    • I feel like this is just the beginning. Just think if you bought Ethereum or Litecoin at $1.00. Disclaimer: This is just my opinion and not financial advice. :)brnmkg

Bennn.... forget about the dogecoin nonsense. Shit sailed years ago as a shitcoin memecoin.

    Looked into any ico's?

Also the ticket is low market cap, low supply coins, that have Korean, Japanese and/or Chinese business applications (Wabi, Walton, OMG...). Or are platforms (Iota, Waves, Stratis, Neo, QTM, Neblio...) Get into one of these at pre-launch and you're looking at x10 - x100 gains my friend.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin…

"I asked the bartender/owner if I can pay with bitcoin and he's like 'yeah, no problem'.

I had ordered two drinks. The bartender hands me an ipad with a bitpay QR code.

I opened up my Coinbase app that I had moved $100 into today specifically for in person payments.

My drinks came out to $15.50 with tip.

The Bitpay app requested 0.0012 BTC (Current price is $16,500). When I put that amount into the Coinbase app it said the USD value was $35. I couldn't figure out why it was $35. So I switched the interface to allow me to just enter a USD amount.

I entered $20, cause I was slightly drunk and said, oh well, I'll pay more. After I hit send I looked at the transaction and it said it was pending for $51. WTF?

I asked the owner/bartender how this was gonna work since it was going to take 2hours plus.

He was like "2 hours? We can't wait that long, I'll just cancel and you can pay by credit card. Also , I don't want you to pay $51 for this".

I told him "You can't cancel, it's bitcoin. No backsies".

He was like "Well, Bitpay says it's canceled now".

And I said "Not sure its gonna come back through via Coinbase. I have no idea how this is gonna go."

The owner was super great and offered to wait or try a whole bunch of things. I said "This was mostly an experiment, take my card. Thanks for doing the bitcoin community solid.".

At the end of the day I have no idea if I got refunded. 2.5 hours later, Coinbase said the transaction went through. Turns out the extra $30 was transaction fees for $20 drinks."

Had a pretty good chat with our IT director yesterday about cryptos. His take is that the federal govt. will soon crack down on these companies (exchanges and wallets) they will sequester documents and transaction information. For the simple fact that there is a huge potential for illegal activity due to anonymity. Many people that are cashing out right now could be circumventing the IRS. He kept mentioning North Korea using it too, since they are essentially cut off from the worlds financial institutions.

But mainly he thinks there is a ton of drug money in it right now. The pot dispensaries all over the country for example. They have still never been able to accept bank cards or been able to create business accounts in regular banks.

    • This is a quite a simplistic view of it if I am honest. The threat isn't drug money and criminals, the threat is the total removal of middle men such as banksfadein11
    • accountants, govts etc. The big boys will be scared of that so we will likely end up with a diluted, regulated version of it of they can make $ off of it.fadein11
    • The same as anything else in the digital revolution. Look at the porn industry, they they pretty much invented ecommerce and everyone said the same thing then,fadein11
    • that ecommerce was sleazy and linked to shady businesses. But look at us now.
I do think this crypto movement has more potential to shake things up though. But

Let me post an analogy here.

" .. Bezos stumbled upon a startling statistic: the Internet had been growing at the rate of 2,300 percent annually. In 1995, the year Bezos, then 31, started Amazon, just 16 million people used the Internet. A year later, the number was 36 million, a figure that would multiply at a furious rate. "

Bezos is the richest person today. Make your own decisions today.

“We probably are in a bubble,” Brian Armstrong confide[d] to Fortune following a recent all-hands meeting. With the total market valuation of all cryptocurrencies well above $500 billion, and few opportunities to put these coins to real use, Armstrong worries that “we haven’t really earned the value of that half trillion.”
    —Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong

not sure how it works, but what's to stop me from starting a website that claims to trade in cryptocurrencies but it's just a scam ?

when you trade stocks or gold or currencies, it's usually through a bank or an accredited investment firm with a history.

    Seems ripe for rampant fraud.

    • Not a whole lot. New users will often check that they can withdraw a small amount of funds before they send a large amount Like you would an intl wire transfer.monNom
    • So you would need a certain minimum float to pay out redemptions. That makes it a more expensive/complex scam.monNom
    • nothing at all ... the Feds consider it the same as FarmVille cash :)monospaced
    • The real trick is convincing people not to rush for the exits when the price craters, as that would totally reveal the scam, so best to use an investment that..monNom
    • I hope all you investors out there are able to profit. Whoo hoo!monospaced
    • @monNom, total chicken egg thing ... the price crater is caused by exitsmonospaced
    • ...has enormous rate of return, and is hard to transact in, particularly when there's a lot of selling and the exchange gets 'busy'.monNom
    • Bitcoin seems sort of perfect, since nobody uses it for anything, they just buy and HODL.monNom
    • @monospaced - yes, I agree, selling lowers price. From the perspective of a scam, you want to manage how fast your pool of money gets drawn-down.monNom
    • Because you don't actually own the underlying security, so you can't sell it. To summarize: it's dangerous to trade in unregulated markets.monNom
    • cool, but not looking for agreement, it's just how it is :)monospaced
