If you use Trading View to follow the price of bitcoin, odds are you are looking at the Bitfinex price, which has been up to $400 higher than other exchanges like Coinbase. The reason is that Bitfinex traders are fleeing like rats from a ship, and trading their Tether for BTC, and moving it off the exchange.
Although Tether prices have stayed mostly stable, the problems at Bitfinex could become too great to bear, and there's nothing preventing this run on the bank from resulting in a collapse of the exchange or the Tether currency. If you have another wallet to move your currency to, it couldn't hurt.

When did this jump to nearly $7K? lol. Wasn't paying attention lately.

Almost did a real trade some hours ago at around $7400 to short Bitcoin via CFD's at my FX Broker. Was hesitant and doubting it. Ended up doing it in Demo mode as a test. Would've made €6K'ish on this fall from 7500 to sub 7000 in few hours.
- should've would've :-)Calderone2000
- and would you have quit at $7k or get raped by the bump back up to $10k right after?zarkonite
- I'm a technical scalper. And I closed the trade for like €6K profit but alas only demo mode. I'm hesitant to trade Bitcoin that way because it's often erratic.NBQ00
- What do you use to trade NBQ00?pedromendez

- still happy for btc though, hope it lastsCalderone2000
- Most alts should be stable in terms of USD value, no? Alts will fly when BTC correction comes, problem is everyone thought it would happen at 7k,8k,9k...drgs
- I use alts to try to accumulate more btc. Don't care too much about $ valueCalderone2000

I've been baffled as the price continues to go up without any serious corrections downward. I haven't been in for a while, and I know as soon as I buy it will tank! lol.

It looks so weird in macro view, kind of out of place. I just hope it doesn't top at 20k again followed by another year of winter...
- Is the public interest there to propel it to 20k again? Seems like last year there was so much more hype, media coverage etc.yuekit
- I have no idea what's happening, but no one needs 20k and a correction to 5k at this point, I want slow growth to 100kdrgs
- All this will be considered slow growth if it gets there in a few years.monospaced

Bitcoin going to 1 Billion.

what's happening?
- someone explainKrassy
- Bitcoin released their financial earnings report and 5 year prospectus showing future gains and market strength. Actually none of that. No reason at all.monospaced
- Actual truth is more likely a whale bought a chunk at a discount, some bros saw the blip and started buying. Price climbs and more buyers scramble in. That’s itmonospaced
- LOL at 1st comment
Thanks for the explanation in the 2nd commentKrassy - https://www.urbandic…drgs

- Mining reward halvening (fewer new coins mined and therefore less supply), but it happens 1 year from nowdrgs

so when i break even soon should i cash in or stay in the game?
- Hodl back to last year pricesSlashPeckham
- That's the big question -- is this an echo bubble which retraces to 6-9k or is it going all the way to 40-50k?
I'm gambling that we will see at least 20k.drgs - too late! it already dumpedsarahfailin

Crashed thousands in minutes. Trading halted. LOL
- almost $2000, but yeah, a huge dump. bouncing back a little but I think will continue to dump down. but what do i know!sarahfailin
- you don’t, that’s the point ... it’s not a real investmentmonospaced
- i am getting some weird deja vu right now... like i've... heard... this before. weird.sarahfailin
- lol, beanie baby flashbacksmonospaced
- The only reason to halt trading is if there’s some funny business. No surprise there.monospaced
- Trading halted? You cant halt trading on an unregulated 24/7 market.ridg0026
- Of course you can. It’s just a bunch of computers. Trade was stopped.monospaced
- And it’s regulated. Obviously.monospaced
- Lol omg. Ok.ridg0026
- The exchange can, whenever the fuck it wants, halt trading. Because that is what happened. Not the first or last time either. Jesus.monospaced
- In this case the exchange mysteriously crashed minutes into the bitcoin crash, halting the whole thing. SEC is the body that regulates and can halt trading.monospaced
- The SEC has absolutely zero control over Bitcoin or the trading of Bitcoin. Exchanges can crash, or undergo scheduled maintenance or yes, even halt trading onridg0026
- THEIR exchanges, but at no point is trading ever halted or suspended the same way traditional markets can be. Bitcoin is unregulated and can be traded day andridg0026
- night, without anyones permission or oversight.ridg0026
- lol at trading halted.inteliboy
- The SEC does and has halted trading of bitcoin exchanges. TODAY trading halted as a result of the exchange crashing. This is all fact.monospaced
- Whether it was intentional or a fluke we don’t know for sure. But arguing that the sec can’t do it, or it hasn’t happened, is ignoring truth.monospaced
- exchanges ≠ bitcoin. and there are hundreds of them, including p2p Dex exchanges.inteliboy
- but yes, true, SEC can throw their muscle around in the US with US exchanges, and they have in the past.inteliboy
- Server overload, 2017 all over againdrgs
- All bitcoin and all crypto currencies are traded on an exchange except when passing hands directly. All exchanges are under SEC oversightmonospaced
- I know too much about this to be stupid enough to ever say bitcoin was an exchange ffs. And yes, trading was halted from the server overload. I don’t believe itmonospaced
- mono you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.sarahfailin
- lol clearlymonospaced
