I'm gonna do it! I'm stepping into the game.
Not so much to make money, but to learn.
I don't know much, so my plan is to throw $100 into Coinbase and just kinda see how things go. If I get more comfortable I may invest more.
Personally, I expect the market to continue its correction over the coming days so I may not invest just yet.
Anyone else use Coinbase? Is it good? Does it suck? Am I doing it wrong??

A mate of mine took out a £10k loan, put it into bitcoin, sold today as it started to dip and walked away with £12.5k clear profit.
Can't work out if he's mad or a genius.
- A mad genius? Those are the best.Longcopylover
- Bitcoin just a smash & grab situation confirmed.grafician
- I think the word you're looking for sis 'lucky' could have easily had his fingers burned.shapesalad
- He was lucky, and maybe had some intel. Its a totally made up asset! Slot machine for rich people! How can society ever use a currency that is so volatile?DaveO
- He's mad because he didn't have the money to gamble in the first place.zarkonite
- It was risky but it paid off. Sometimes no risk no fun in life. Also it’s not like he got the loan from a loan shark.NBQ00
- Well the numbers don't add up? 10+12.5 is not 30k+ Also never borrow to invest, oh wellgrafician
- I never said 30k did I? I think his position went up to 20k earlier, then he sold and then it went up again. Then dropped!DaveO

So is Ethereum a "safer" choice over BTC? Or both have potential equal risk/reward?
- Noone knows actually. But to diversify, I supplemented my bitcoins with ethereum and bitcoin cash.Longcopylover
- Bitcoin is just more hyped, means more gain but also more loss possibleLongcopylover

Total newb here but had a great conversation with a friend over the weekend who is deep into bitcoin and at that point where he might not have to ever work again if he played his cards right.
He was telling me about XRP and I've been reading up on it. Are any of you into that and curious how the SEC lawsuit will pay out? My friend's prediction is that it's destined for $10-$20 within a couple years. Not sure if that takes into account the lawsuit, but it's been interesting to read about it and its potential.
What say you?
- nocomply0
Well screw it. I needed a distraction so I invested just now:
* $25 on bitcoin
* $25 on litecoin
* $25 on XRP (was looking at it and then after what mg33 said, I was like, fuck it, I'll throw in.)Might do another $25 on Ethereum to round it out.
Now I can watch the market every 2 minutes like a weirdo.
- I know nothing, but I still predict the market to drop back to mid-December, 2020 prices soon. That's when I'll invest more. Just learning for now.nocomply
- What is your transaction cost to trade those coins? I though it cost ~$25 just to buy/sell. But maybe cheaper now?monNom
- throw more on XRPsted
- $1.49 fee on each $25 transaction. The XRP seems like it has the biggest upshot, but who the hell knows? Definitely not me. LOL.nocomply
- don't get emotional. $5isaca
- You may be able to buy a nice bicylce in 3 years with that investment! Congrats :DBennn
- :))))sted
- So even if the price doubles up, which would be bonkers big, you are only up $25. Dude. Make it worth it or don’t.monospaced
- i was deep on xrp but the SEC news fukt me. My bud that works in Crypto says it's trash. I think there are better alternativesBANKattack
- BANK - What's a better alternative? I've read a lot that says XRP is still looking good.nocomply
- mono - I'm going to invest some "real cash" the next time the market takes a big hit. Still believe it's coming back down.nocomply
- yeah, you kinda have to if you're gonna play at all.monospaced
- put in what you can afford to lose dude, don't listen to us idiots here.GuyFawkes
- or buy some cheap shit like XRP or MANA,GuyFawkes

Jonny may have been onto something...
Is Tether Just a Scam to Enrich Bitcoin Investors?: https://newrepublic.com/article/…
Tether, the third-most widely held coin by value (Ethereum is second), is unique among its peers. In a market built largely on speculation, Tether is a stablecoin, pegged to the dollar at a 1-to-1 ratio. Tethers help provide liquidity and offer a widely recognized token that can facilitate transactions between various cryptocurrencies. In the world of crypto markets, they essentially act as a digital dollar, and they’re everywhere. On some days, Tether’s trading volume exceeds that of Bitcoin.
But the question that hounds Tether—and is the subject of an investigation by the New York attorney general’s office—is whether its most attractive quality is really just to artificially inflate the value of Bitcoin. In other words, is Tether actually a tool for cryptocurrency insiders to get rich on the market’s hottest—and highly manipulable—commodity?
- If it’s backed by dollars at 1 to 1, and it goes into Bitcoin... then it’s just dollars into Bitcoin?shapesalad
- Oh I read the article. Not sure why you’re downvoted. Yeah. Very murky. This is what puts me off crypto.shapesalad

aaand back to 40K
- if this thing crashes, were all the money spent on it go?grafician
- To the people that sold.BH26
- Then they buy back at the bottom ;].BH26
- Right. if this happens, then why it crashes?grafician
- If you buy a car, and want to sell it on used car market, where does the car go when you drop the price 50% cos no one buys it 6 months?shapesalad
- That's what happens to bitcoin in the crash, the sale price drops. the money isn't going anywhere, it went before, when someone bought at 40k, someone else soldshapesalad
- Then when no one wants to buy at 40, or 39, or 38, etc, price rapidly drops until buyers come in. Money isn't going anywhere.shapesalad
- Heard mentality. Panic saleAQUTE
- I can cash out and make like $5 after fees!nocomply
- Let it get to 50k and make that 10 bucks lolAQUTE
- The example with the car is stupid - a real car can be "recycled" and still extract value. Bitcoin is just the heat from the mining farms - it just dissipates!grafician

"The Bitcoin Dream Is Dead
Bitcoin’s recent 25% plunge illustrates why it will never be a true currency
Bitcoin was, after all, not designed to be a speculative asset. It was designed to be a currency, a new medium of exchange that people could, and would, use to transact daily business with each other. (That’s why we call it a cryptocurrency.) "

The guy who threw away the bitcoin into the rubbish tip blows my mind. It's gone dude!
Even if he can remember the week, and they can locate the bin, and they can find a grid reference of where it was put...
HOW THE FUCK DO THEY INTEND TO FIND A USB STICK?
It's actually more complex than a needle in a haystack. Maybe we create a new term based on the sheer futility of his guy's endeavour.
- Time + Effort = Profit. You just go step by step. handful by handful.shapesalad
- Here's the plan, you go to indian and hire those young kids that live on landfill sites, 300 of them, you pay them each £10k, set them free on the landfill...shapesalad
- .. they will find it. and then back in india, they can break free of their miserable lifestyle.shapesalad
- Kind of ironic that he'd have to 'mine' his bitcoins againDaveO
- Shape, once again you must be joking or just no idea how hazardous & hard the landfill is and how deep they’d need to dig. Can only done with machines.NBQ00
