I don't know where else to write this but here it goes:
My MacBook Pro won't recognize my DJ Mixer when connected with USB.
My Mixer has two USB ports, one for DVS (Midi) and other to connect to the computer with Line In and Line Out.
The first works the second will not work.I ordered this extra TUB-1 USB thing to connect it to the computer has the mixer doesn't have a RCA Master Out.
After several failed attempts as I wanted to record some mixes I tried to connect the mixer to the computer via RCA and Input.
Doesn't work...I found out that in my Mac that's just Micro only.
In my old Mac (2009) I recorded some mixes now just forget it.
It seems I have to buy something like a Focusrite Scarlett or something...which my not work because of my USB issue.Anyone else having this issue or had this issue?
- "which may not work..."oey_oey
- you need to have an audio interface to record onto a mac, eg the focusrite you mention. for straight recording from a record player i get by with an old imic.hans_glib
- for the studio i have an old (firewire!) motu 828 mk2 which is boss.hans_glib
- hey hans_glib, now I know that but that the USB also doesn't record anything from the soundcard of the mixer that's weird now.oey_oey
- In the last three days I've been through forum after forum and this is a common problem.oey_oey
- if the mixer has a USB audio out, you shouldn't need a separate audio interface. The analog to digital conversion would be happening in the mixer.mort_
- Try updating the drivers for the mixer?mort_
- supposedly there's no drivers for this mixeroey_oey
- I think this is a mac problem. USB Audio Codec not workingoey_oey
- Is it a Native Instruments mixer by any chance?mort_
- no, it's a vestax pmc-05 pro IVoey_oey
- Ah. looks like there's only USB for midi, not audio?
https://djworx.com/w…mort_ - https://www.youtube.…oey_oey
- https://www.youtube.…oey_oey
- Yes there's this USB for midi but I bought this other part.oey_oey
- ^ that's what the TUB-1 is for, I/O over USB. it says its coreaudio so should be compatible... it has 4 in and 4 out so may need configured...kingsteven
- ie. the second channel on the mixer may come in on ins 3-4? does it appear in System Preferences -> Sound? or in Apps/Utilities/Audio Midi Setupkingsteven
- ah, i was looking at dodgy info the manual for tub-1 says it's just stereo. not much info out there though... did you connect the internal jumper cables okay?kingsteven
- ^that's it!!!oey_oey
- oey_oey4
after two days trying and nothing working...I just solved it!
I read kinsteven's last comment:
"did you connect the internal jumper cables okay?"and I thought "yes, i did!"
but I was like "what if i did it wrong without knowing I'm doing it wrong?"
so I jumped out of my room in the 2nd floor and came to my atelier and just screwed the port open and looked at the cables and looked at the instructions and:
white pin in J2
colored pin in J3correct.
okay let's change the pins to:
white pin in J3
colored pin in J2and it just started to working.
the fucking instructions are wrong!!!
really thankfully to mort_ and kingsteven fo the comments.
it made me check things several times.@kingsteven...your question dude made me doubt myself and everything else and bam!
- sorry my bad English, I'm too excitedoey_oey
- Awesome. Looks like a great mixer.mort_
- this has been my dream for years and i didn't want to commit to a full Serato mixer.
I needed a mixer that's also good just for vinyl.oey_oey - without having to pay over 500€ up to 1000€. I got this one for 200€. I have a Rane SL to connect it and to play with Serato (I'm just starting)...oey_oey
- with this mixer I have a setup where I just have to change the channel and I'm ready to jump from vinyl to Serato or to Line In without changing cables or sooey_oey
- hah, good stuff! looking forward to some mixes.kingsteven
- forgot to thank hans_glib...sorry and thanks bro, wow that was really excitement.oey_oey
- Nice setup. I use the Kontrol Z2 for similar duties. Being able to switch seamlessly between vinyl and wav files is dope.mort_
- That's a nice mixer too, I know some people that use it for Serato instead of Traktor. But some people are waiting for a MKII or something newoey_oey

modular lust is starting..
looking mainly at things like Marbles, Maths etc.. standard fare..
mainly for controlling non modular things like moogs etc..prices make me cry
- once you go down that route, you're lost. my mate has £5k+ of modular gear and he's still hooked. and he never really uses it...hans_glib
- what about the diy or kit route? if you only need basic modulation types for non modular gear, there are some pretty cheap options I think.epigraph
- the modules you listed do some pretty complex stuff it seems... Midi event manipulator project kits plus a midi to CV converter could maybe work?epigraph
- Don't forget Doepfer! The least sexy modules, but just as good as anything else, and easily the most affordable lineup.section_014
- yeah its been why I have been avoiding it.. got a few friends who are hooked, each rig they own are like $8k each.. and they have multipleautoflavour
- interested mainly in cv manipulation and function, less the sounds.. so I guess that's something. feels a bit like saying I only do cocaine on the weekendautoflavour
- and im not injecting it daily, so its not a problemautoflavour

Cute little 2 voice semi-modular digital synth.

Seems like music producers could benefit from this Augmented Reality feature. It tracks where everything is plugged in for you

Short sample of something I'm working on:
- super nice.. would mix the piano a bit higher tho, its getting lost in the bass..
send me some stems, would totally remix the fuck out of itautoflavour - how did you get the still image on the video? whenever i try i end up with a black screen :/hans_glib
- auto flavor - thanks - explain stems to me? what does that consist of precisely? I've head the word term, but unsure what it is precisely.mg33
- stems are the sound files of each track. so the aifs of your bass track, piano etc. you can export them individually from logic/ableton/reason etchans_glib
- Like this. +1Ianbolton
- Thanks Hans. Unsure about your question for the still image. It always displays the first frame of the video as far as I know.mg33
- super nice.. would mix the piano a bit higher tho, its getting lost in the bass..

making beats or blog..?
I took piano lessons as a child. I didn't retain much, but I remember a few right handed melodies. I have an M-Audio ES-88. It's a weighted, velocity sensitive, 88 key MIDI controller. It has sat dormant for the last 4 years as I don't have the skill required to utilize it as the instrument that it is. Plus, it's quite bulky.
Recently, I have been writing chord progressions trying once again to walk myself through music theory. As there are 6 tracks so far that I am happy with and receiving compliments from, I thought I might try to learn to play what I have written, as that has been a goal during this creative process.
Technically, if I learn my parts, I have a friend who is more than capable of playing the drums I've written.
Enter Synthesia - synthesiagame.com
$30 and a 5 second install later, I have software up on my screen that I can feed MIDI files to, then learn to play. Let's just say Amazing Grace is a stretch bit easier to perform than the many 5 note (and one 6 note) chords I have written.
Synthesia is probably the most engaging and rewarding trial by fire musical training tool that I have tried. I understand this is not so much helping me learn music theory, as much as it is a performance trainer. I don't care, coordination be damned, I would like to learn to play these songs live.
- you don't need to understand music or play an instrument.. machines do all the work. sure it helps, but in almost 25 years of producing, I still can't playautoflavour
- Pressing play on a midi file won’t have the same effect as playing a Rhodes piano live though... ya know?imbecile
- pressing play on a midi file? you know its not 1988 any more right?
LOLautoflavour - this is the MAKING beats thread, not Playing Rhodes thread lolautoflavour
- are you sure? i wrote this midi file in ableton... but you do make a good point sir, my bad. i talk more about the drums i don't want to play in my next postimbecile
- *i'llimbecile
- im just messing with you.. pay me no heed.. all music talk is good.. regardless of how you do itautoflavour

never will sell
- Seen the original 106 go for €1500 - €1800 here. The Boutique is just fine for me :)mort_

Unexpected vintage synth acquisition.
For $1100AUD it was rude not to..Not that I have space for a juno106 or the need for a second Juno.. my juno6 is still awesome.
But given reverb lists them at $2700.. even if I just flip it in a few months, it will be all profit.

- Bargain of the Dayemphor
- “even if I just flip it in a few months, it will be all profit.” - does your wife actually buy that line? ;)mort_
- She did say in the car today “our synth” I think she has cottoned on to my gameautoflavour
- Usually I slowly save and sell shit to buy new things, this was totally spontaneous.. messaged last night picked up this morning.. couldn’t hide 1100 from bankautoflavour
- She had to be in the loop.. and no doubt will want her cut once I do flip itautoflavour
- It’s a fucking tightrope walk. Prolly not a bad thing though since it makes us super selective about which gear to buy.mort_
- honestly I blame Covid.. normally we don't have any spare cash laying around, but as we aren't flying anywhere, and aren't eating out .. wealth accumulated ..autoflavour
- not Rockefeller money, but enough that spontaneously dropping $1k on a synth on the off chance it will gain in value isn't a headache.autoflavour
- Yeah similar here. It's weird watching your savings increase but wondering if your job will be there in 6 months.mort_

Gah.. just dodged a bullet..
guy was selling a Akai MFC42 filter in Melbourne..
All seemed legit, did the transfer..Guy then goes silent..
then, 22 hours later he comes back saying he had another guy who was going to buy it and he had actually already transferred the money before I did and so he is going to let him have it.
tells me he will just refund the money once it clears the bank..
frantically called the bank, and after an hour on hold finally get thru and the transfer was still in pending as it was a new transfer contact.. transfer canceled with 40 minutes to spare in the 24 hour hold..
$1000 saved..
still want a MFC42..
but ok with having my 1000- Nice, i’d love oneprophetone
- been on the hunt for such a long time.. almost had one in Berlin back in 2014 for $600.. had to pass as I was a couple hundred short..autoflavour
- one thing I don't miss about Berlin, povertyautoflavour
- Would it do anything the Analog Heat doesn't do? Or just a different sound?mort_
- All filters have different sounds.. got the heat, moogerfooger 101 and a ELTA polivoks filter.. they all sound and behalf differentlyautoflavour
- But on paper, yes.. they are essentially the sameautoflavour
- I hear ya.mort_
