Dodgy name and logo aside, this new open standard plugin format could open up some cool capabilities for DAW plugins.
- And Apple will probably ignore it. I'd probably still be using Logic day to day if they had implemented Ableton Linksection_014

watching all the facebook synth selling groups starting to be overpopulated as people are seeing the coming financial meltdown and offloading..
trying hard not to purchase while also looking at my mountain of gear and considering what babies I could/should kill..
its a hard one..
don't need the money, but also don't want to loose it if I have to sell some- Cleaning up on synths while the world starves and burns.microkorg

in other news, just splurged on a TR6-S .. you know, because plastic battery powered drum machines are the answer to everything
- Had the TR-8S for a while. They sound great and very jammable.mort_

It's been probably 2 years since I've bought any gear (outside of maybe one module), so I thought I'd look into adding another poly synth to the mix. I bought my Prophet '08 literally in '08, so that's a pretty good gap between purchases.
As I'm browsing through, I notice that none of this stuff is rackable. All the Sequential shit is too wide. The Novation Peak can be racked, but it involves drilling + custom ends. The only company that seems to acknowledge the existence of a 19" rack is fucking Behringer!
So, I guess I'm gonna look into the DeepMind 12. Because, I'm totally out of flat space for gear. But, I've got loads of rack space to use. WTF.
- first world problem?hans_glib
- Don't go to the dark side! Any of the Electron synths of interest? Have seen them racked.mort_
- ^^ Lol. I already have a Behringer Model D. And it's racked!section_014

spontaneously decided to butcher my modular.. cleared out 2U of 104hp and stuck it up .. no particular reason but sitting there watching $5k of modules just not be used felt stupid..
sadly all the big ticket items I was kind of hoping wouldn't sell, were the first to go.
about $2500 up, but don't have a plan for it so will just just get chucked on the pile

gah! looks like Wifey might be out of a job soon ..
looks like my modular is about to be offered to the gods further.
do no want!- Oh no! Hope she finds something soon.mort_
- Argh, sounds like a right nightmareIanbolton
- Time for a minimal setup... if you want to eat.shapesalad
- One thing I've been doing with modules and synth spending is reserving my money for stuff that can't be done as well in Ableton.mort_
- So nice filters and analog VCOs etc as modules but things like midi arpeggiators / chord functions etc in Ableton / Max for live devices.mort_
- Expert Sleepers ES-9 module enables a hybrid setup like that.mort_
- ^^ same here. I got rid of all my sequencing stuff ages ago. It's basically all VCO's, Filters, Envelopes, and VCA's. I use a first batch ES-3.section_014
- every time i scroll past this post i think Wifey is a UK grime producer and you have a module thats going to put him out of a job...kingsteven
- and then read it proper and no, that's really not the case at allkingsteven
- lol, and I was going to say "is it weird that I know exactly what auto is saying?"garbage
- At the end of the day most of the modular I own is duplication of other things.. I originally got into it for the outboard sequencers..autoflavour
- I flipped 5k in a few days so that should be a buffer .. she hasn’t lost her job yet, but the agency she works for is being thrown under the bus by the premierautoflavour
- Fortunately she has a job interview on Tuesday so thumbs pressed she will just slide right inautoflavour

- Would love this but can't solder for shit.mort_
- woah, that's impressive. behringer are working on one too apparently - if priced like their other modules could be 200-300 noopkingsteven
- yeah this one looks pretty advanced for a diy solder project... but maybe the coolest one since original x0xb0x projectprophetone
- wild guess but BOM is prob $100ishprophetone

RIP WMD. Another Eurorack company calls it quits. :(

I picked up a Digitone a couple of weeks ago and immediately fell for the sound. Most of my synths are analog subtractive which has a certain (wide) range of sounds. The Digitone adds a completely new dimension to my sound palette. It can be glassy and cold or dirty and warm and has tonnes of ways to build and manipulate a sound. Having owned a Digitakt, the interface and sequencer are nice and familiar. A definite keeper.
- be careful tho.. I was totally in lust.. but then I upgraded to the Digikeys and never looked back.autoflavour
- congrats tho.. they are fucking awesomeautoflavour
- this into a analog heat with a subtle level of dirt totally opens it up..autoflavour
- Must try that. Have a MK1 Analog Heat.mort_
- that said, I use the heat on most things.. even just a subtle bit of saturation just makes everything better.. especially digital things..autoflavour
- Yeah, love the heat on drums especially. Just some subtle crispness completely transforms them.mort_

- nice 1 I was looking at this... sparked thoughts of pairing with a pams, mumm8, squidsalmpler, mmmidi, mmt, mfx, hpo... could have a sweet little rigprophetone
- must resistprophetone
- I was the same.. but looks like Wifey did manage to land that Job interview so seamless and painless transition.. so splurged on another sequencerautoflavour
- I just really like the quantiser .. and obviously the big tactile buttonsautoflavour
- like I already have a sh101 .. so its not like I didn't have that sequencer.. but not in modular form LOLautoflavour
- I just don't get how you'd sequence a track with all this. Surly a DAW would give you better control over a composition?shapesalad
- @shapesalad
1. Limitation breeds creativity
2. Tactile interface
3. PCs are for spreadsheets ;)mort_ - we don't want 'control' we want bleep bloop chaos!prophetone
- In fairness, DAWs can do random chaos well too. Some amazing Max for Live devices.mort_
- ^^^ Max for live can take you to the moon and back with sequencing. You can incorporate midi controllers too. A little learning curve, but limitless.section_014
- @section_014 Sounds like you're making your own Max for Live devices? Nice!mort_
- Ableton can do everything.. but half the fun is making music where it’s just the machines doing everything and ableton is just clock and recordingautoflavour
- Just tactile also..autoflavour

Is it possible to produce production-quality electronic music on an iPad?
- One of the Gorillaz albums was done by damian on an ipad whilst on tour.
You'd likely need some mastering at the end if you wanted to release.microkorg

This is a great deal. Anyone know what the education tier difference is? It’s not mentioned
- wow that’s def a great dealprophetone
- “Education email” is this any college email? My wife still uses hers from like the 90s lolnb
- It appears you buy it on an Apple ID from a qualified school. Then they email you “content codes” to use on the regular App Storenb

Picked up an Arturia Keystep and thinking I might give Ableton a go. Anyone got any prefs for DAW/softsynthing? I wish I could get into the hardware shit but in my heart I am an arranger of music more than a performer.
- You can a whole lot with Ableton Suite out of the box. Whatever additional VST synths you get will depend on what additional sound sources you want.mort_
