It arrived this morning.
It's been charging on my desk at work.
I am rewarding myself with a 5 minute play each time I complete a job/task at work.I have an empty weekend ahead so will be playing with this little beast all weekend.
All I have to do is break the news to my wife tonight about my purchase when I get home from work ;)

so i just wandered a few blocks up to the Elektron launch (one of the many advantages of living in Berlin) and had a play with the Analog Keys..
its nice.. im sure they will charge like a wounded bull for it.. and to be honest, it does feel a bit like a rehash, but i am sure there are a bunch of stuff i didnt play with..
but generally speaking, it was nice.

- also, when my kid is old enough, i dont really care if he plays with it..

I guess the Analog Keys is moreso for people wanting to play the synth live as part of a "live band" rather than an electro artist where a lot of things are pre-programmed and you're just tweaking shiz.
The standard A4 looks a lot more "geek" with it just being a box. Something which I prefer personally over the look of the A4Keys which just looks like a non-interesting keyboard.
- there are a few nice features tho.. apparently there is an update to the step sequencer where you can have a different patchautoflavour
- patch per step, which is pretty dopeautoflavour
- yeah but will they not just do an upgrade to the A4 OS too though?
microkorg - i am guessing its the same beast inside..autoflavour

these are of interest to me lately...
traveling more, I like the portability of these mini pieces. just toss a couple in the bag and be on my way. I have a nanoKontrol & an original launchpad that are portable now, but i'm not sure how much longer the nanoKontrol will make it. If i can't bring the keyboard, i've been using the launchpad as one lately. it's nice to have the range and getting used to the scales is pretty easy. then having two launchpads when back home, well I'll waste all sorts of time. from a video I saw though, the launchkeymini is as wide as a laptop so it is more portable than the microKorg I have now too. The launchkeymini has velocity sensitive pads as well as serving as triggers.

Anyone want to do a back and forth kind of thing? Like track tennis or an Ableton / Maschine battle of sorts. A little bit of MIDI madness if you will. I'm not thinking remix but... build a beat, pass it off for a melody, put down something atmospheric, have another guy add a bass line or whatever. Just something to see what evolves or comes of it. We could set up a shared ftp or dropbox for all interested parties.
on another note... I'm picking this up for next to nothing later today.
the after touch keys and endless rotary knobs were the sell for me. though it's dated, it's well reviewed and coming from a light use studio environment.
I seriously think I have a midi controller problem though. I want them all for no real reason and this in particular does nothing new that my equipment can't already perform.
- i was given one as a used gift, played around with it but honestly i haven't given enough attentionprophetone

My soundcloud if anyone wants to question my lack of genre commitment and varying levels of production to interest them in the idea above. :)

I've got some new tracks to add but I think I'll pull some of the other older, poorly produced stuff first to make time for my newer sounds. The newer stuff has an obvious advantage over the older tracks in sound quality, range, and dynamics imo.

As far as the idea, I figured using the same software and possibly some of the same plugins like Ableton & Massive would allow for easy sharing of wav / aiff samples for drums / whatever and Massive presets between systems for anything from kick subs to brass / organ models, etc.
I have some of the Maschine expansion products from Native Instruments. Massive of course, a bunch of the sound packs / drum kits for Maschine and half a dozen or so Kontakt5 plugins as well as Driver.
I know the more people involved, the more difficult it would be to create this without having to render tracks to audio first to maintain each others intent, but if we could work together from source files and shared sounds, I think that'd be cool to see what becomes of it.
- I think your stuff sounds cool. I've got Logic Pro X, and Native Instrements Komplete. Let's do a collab.

I'd love to do something like that albums but don't have the time.
I've got LOADS of songs that are work-in-progress and have never been finished. Any time that I do get i'll be spending time on them.
Also got the OP-1 to get my head into ;)

What would you guys recommend for a 9 year old that wants to get into making "skrillex" music? Needs to be on the cheap end of things, if possible.
The wife had discussed piano lessons to begin, not sure if this would help though.
- honestly, learning a real instrument first is the foundation..
piano is one of the best.autoflavour

Knuckleberry, there's loads of apps out there that will do just that.
How serious is the kid about making music?
If you think he'll be content with playing with loops and effects to get a "skrillex sound" then ipad/phone apps are more than enough.
If you think he would put in some time into actually learning something then no harm in getting the little fella a Native Instruments Maschine.

Was going to ask: Are there any Reason type apps for the Ipad? Something with a TB303 simulator or such?
Suggestions? I got Figure on my Itouch but want something a little more meatier for the tablet.- i love impc

autoflavor & microkorg,
He has been asking for about 2 years now so it seems serious. I have guitars and basses but he is not interested in them. He says he wants to make "electronic" music, which is outside of my music background (hardcore/punk).
I would rather him learn piano at first to get the keys and note structure down then let him run. Just thought if there was something small it could be cool to get him it.
Maybe I will get him an app on the iPad.
- make him a deal, you will buy him a MC 303 if he takes piano lessons..autoflavour
- the MC303 will cost you about $150 or so from ebay, its reasonably easy..autoflavour

you can find a maschine mk1 for like $250 used. make sure you get the software key with it though.
