@prophet, used one of these recently. £699, records to USB, also one of the only 16 channel/ balanced fw interfaces out there.
http://www.allen-heath.com/ahpro…- hmmm really nice. Budget is a thing tho nowadays... Need to either go with an older solution or save sheckles for new stuff.prophetone
- 16 simultaneous ins recorded to usb sounds reakly dreamy gotta sayprophetone

apparently hoarding 90's gear is my favorite hobby. snagged a classic e-mu orbit v2 all minty fresh. on to the pile!
planning in building two identical diy 10-12u rack cases to deal with this stuff properly, and naturally. maybe make the case sides outta multi layers of fine wood, like diff colored layers? i know someone who glues em together to make guitar bodies, gorgeous... hmmm
- nice.. was always a fan of the EMU stuff..autoflavour
- 909? what does it do? I take it nothing to do with Roland 909?fadein11
- 9090. it's loaded with 90's classic synths, stabs, basses, fx, drum hits, etc.prophetone
- is that a remote controlled motorcycle?err
- yeah it's a Thunder Tiger Ducati 999. http://www.youtube.c…prophetone

- would the new roland not have more features?microkorg
- TB3 looks very nice and is about half the price. Scratching head, what to do?lessfloor
- tb3 sounds great! : )
lessfloor - I'd go for the TB3. This cyclone was a good choice before the tb3 was born thoughmicrokorg
- i have one.. and i have played with the TB3 in the storeautoflavour
- different beasts.autoflavour
- if you want a pretty much accurate sounding 303, complete with same programming interface and analog warmth, go the tt-303autoflavour
- digital warmth .. go the tt303. if you want a digital sounding copy, with a bunch of bells and whistles you will likely never useautoflavour
- go with the TB3.. Honestly the TB3 was a major let down when i played with it..autoflavour
- and it doesnt sound anything really like a 303.. TT or TBautoflavour
- without a doubt, the TB3 has more sounds.. but they are nothing I hadnt heard before on roland MC-x0x boxesautoflavour
- http://www.synthtopi…autoflavour
- one thing I love about the TT303 is the pachinko mode, where it resets all the patterns to random patterns.autoflavour
- i mean analog warmth back there.. tt303 is analog loveautoflavour
- TT303 - i think wins for me. £400 - just for making that acid bass, but such a great soundlessfloor
- yeah, it is definitely a 1 trick pony, but what a pony it isautoflavour
- its funny, i actually use it way more as a sequencer of other synths than as 303 by itself.autoflavour
- Just bought the tt303. Posting tunes soonlessfloor
- auto - i will be pestering you from now on for tips and advice on this sweet little mother fucker ;)lessfloor
- feel free, but honestly the manual takes about 20 minutes to read, and after that, its all just fiddlingautoflavour
- nice work tho.. you wont be disappointedautoflavour
- although you may find like i did that the holes for the pots are just slightly misaligned..autoflavour
- it sucks, but its a simple enough thing to fix with some sandpaper ..autoflavour
- cheers dudelessfloor

- A4, thats nice... yours?kingsteven
- Yes! Not mine unfortunatelylessfloor

- massive lady boner material.
just cant come at the price.. its amazing machine, but my days of buying hardware that could pay for a car are overautoflavour - cost the same as a car are over sadly. i peaked with that shit when i spent $5000 on a Waldorf Q when they were new back in 2000 sometimeautoflavour
- back in 2000... but yep, am interested in the A4 .. maybe.. second hand..
autoflavour - pre-empting a move to a bigger studio space. the amount i've just spent on outboard i figured why-the-fuck-not! :)kingsteven
- do tell.. always keen to hear what people are spending their money onautoflavour
- putting together a luchbox atm. 8 API clones + 336HP eurorack modular - all DIYkingsteven
- ... bunch of other bits too, all adds up!kingsteven
- lunchbox ftwautoflavour
- 500 series shit is the bomb.. just wish i have cashola to burn. the SSL shit is sooo tastyautoflavour
- Yeeah. been using API 512's and SSL G4000 in the studio recently. Ultimate combo IMO. Insane money.kingsteven
- thought DIY 500 series would let me spread out the cost a bit, but the real savings (on componenets + shipping) happen when you build them all in one go...kingsteven
- happen when you build them all in one go/ order the components in stages.kingsteven

July modular synth builds...
Anyone else got a modular? Now I've started I'm pissed I didn't start earlier... started with Doepfer stuff but recently been building mostly System 100 clones + digital modules (in the photo) by these guys http://www.frequencycentral.co.u… addicted.
- How's the System 100 stuff? I find my modular lacking in the Roland department.ltjohnrambo
- pretty authentic, the VCO even comes with photoshopped roland service manual pages to calibrate...kingsteven
- it isn't temperature stabilised though, which seems to be a problem for some folks, not for me yet...kingsteven
- the envelope is the real star of the bunch though, so snappy... great for drums.kingsteven
- I hadn't even considered the envelope. Kinda like the socks of synthesis, not very sexy. But I might reconsider.ltjohnrambo

Who else apart from KingSteven is rocking Elektron gear? and what've you got?
- I've got the MachineDrum MKII. I also have the +Drive upgrade sitting uninstalled. I should really get to that...ltjohnrambo
- The MachineDrum was fun when I got it, but I find myself using my Eurorack drum modules and MPC much more. It might be cool for a live show.ltjohnrambo
- It might be good for the live show I'm planning.ltjohnrambo

Microkorg.. I used to own the Monomachine about 8 years ago, but sold it after just finding it too difficult a sound a marry with the style of music i was making at the time. it was dope machine, and if you are making music that has that kind of sound, its amazing.. but yep, not for me.
then last year a friend of mine sold me his Octatrack.. which took me about 6 months to get my head around.. but now.. its dope

I have an iMac, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 soundcard and KRK Rokit 5 speakers. I am getting a persistent low crackling and humming sound from monitors when using the iMac (particuarly when scrolling using the mouse!) with no sound on (and when sound on but not as noticeable obviously). Its driving me mad. I have changed configs of powerpoints etc but problem persists. Anyone got any ideas to solve it? Thanks.
- get this on my macbook when using external monitor/ internal soundcard...kingsteven
- shouldn't happen with balanced cables etc... you could try using a UK->EU travel adapter forced back in to a UK plug on your monitors...kingsteven
- monitors... like this mentalist http://www.youtube.c…kingsteven
- will isolate the amp from ground... you should really be lifting the ground from the signal though.kingsteven
- you could also use a separate four-way with the ground pin disconnected...kingsteven
- yep read that but also v.dangerous apparently.fadein11
- yeah, it's just a quick fix... a RFI filtered 4 way should also work.kingsteven
- autoflavour0
fadein11 .. you need a whats called a ground loop isolator.. they are usually designed for car stereos by they work perfectly fine for normal studio stuff.. basically you stick it between your soundcard output and your monitors..
i also have one between my imac and my mixer, just to make sure.
it doesnt remove the buzz completely, but it removes it enough that you dont hear it unless you have the volume at full blast.
i got mine off ebay for like $10..
- actually i think i just have it between my imac and the mixer.. sorry, its all patched away in a rackautoflavour
- either way, what you are talking about, this shit will fix itautoflavour
- kingsteven0
hah sorry thats a bit too complicated to explain in notes...
i'm making some assumptions... the hum is a ground loop issue/ not some weird hardware issue... could be because your s/c runs from USB bus but could also be that none of your gear is grounded in the first place (happens more often than you think)
common way to fix this is to use a transformer to lift the ground from the signal (ground loop eliminator) but as it's your own studio you should try and remove it from the power (quick way to test is by disconnecting the ground from whats causing the hum, as suggested above) using a RFI filtered plug/ fourway would work too.
