Reason just became the best DAW imo. Especially if you like patching and creating your own modular synths n sounds.
- I used to use it all the time but it doesn't compare to Logic. Okay to use within Logic though.fadein11
- I used to love reason.. but then i got ableton.. and realised how much i was missingautoflavour
- well, not entirely, i was running reason in protools for ages.. but it was just so slowautoflavour
- reason has always been my favourite tool. well designed, intuitive, great sounds.hans_glib
- the sound it produces isn't good enough imho. and the built in fx are weak compared to logicfadein11
- I always found whatever I produced in Reason sounded like it was made in Reasonautoflavour
- each to their own i guess. i love reason's ability to import sounds and use them easily. logic is sooo fucking complex, tho obviously essential for live instrumhans_glib
- @auto - exactly. its a plugin for a pro DAW like Logic - I know people make whole tracks on it but I couldn'tfadein11
- that being said the modular nature of it is loads of fun and has big creative potentialfadein11
- The whole DAW debate is like MAC vs PC though - pointless isn't it. If you make good shit and enjoy using a prog then that's all that matters. I just know whenfadein11
- I jumped from Reason to Logic that's when I started doing my best stuff.fadein11
- i was using protools, logic and reason.. then i installed ableton and to be honest, i havent looked back.autoflavour
- i do kind of miss the all in the box thing about reason.. it was good for on the road productionautoflavour
- tried ableton and I didn't get on with it - I prefer the traditional interface (I started on Atari ST with Creator then Cubase)fadein11
- I'm an old luddite.fadein11
- Gonna take a hard look at Reason now. I use to think Logic sounded better than Fruity Loops (which it did), but FL sounds good now.section_014
- Reason is like walking into an empty studio with an unlimited budget.inteliboy
- Though I still love both Logic and Live. Agreed, very much a boring PC vs Mac debate.inteliboy
- Professionally, with people standing around wanting mixing/recording/mas... - Logic or Pro Tools is obviously the way to go, no question.inteliboy
- yep. reason does a part of the job and will rarely lead to releasable demos.fadein11

anyone any experience of this?
looks much lighter than logic, tho i'm no expert...
- re-inventing the wheel?ApeRobot
- never heard of it - I'd look at bitwig before I looked at that even though it has the dumbest name ever.fadein11
- it used to be free, but still, find me a DAW for $60..autoflavour
- I have a bitwig licence somewhere, i never installed it.. but one of the guys from bitwig used to have a studio at Stattbad on the same floor as much studioautoflavour
- it was developed in berlin wasn't it?fadein11
- Lots of people seem to like it. Not sure I'd dump Logic for it, but if I were making music on PC I would.section_014
- BitWig doesn't have ReWire, so that's 100% out for me.section_014
- You can get 8 channel Ableton Live on the cheap then upgrade when they have a sale.microkorg
- But yeah I like their $60 non-professional pricing. Wish Ableton, Adobe etc would do this too.microkorg
- This is made by that software genius, isn't it? The guy who wrote WinAmp and then some unstoppable filesharing thing? It's supposed to be good... I've read.detritus
- winamp - lol - what a bog standard windows media player? wow - he changed the world.fadein11
- oh fuck off, prick.detritus
- *grumbles* Give more insight into what I was referring.. http://www.davidkush…detritus

- I just now realized I need a harmonica synthesizerprophetone
- If you keep saying 808 over and over i guess it could sound like a harmonica kinda sound .....microkorg
- Harmonica?!?! Lollll that would have been sweet!futurefood

- i had a used rhythm wolf for a few months. returned it to guitar center. limited and flat.imbecile
- i bought the rythm wolf when it was released. load of crap. did a review video slating it that's had over 65,000 views....microkorg
- ... hopefully it's put 65k people off buying one. ;)microkorg
- yeah the rythm wolf looks garbage.. and to be honest im not expecting that much from this either.. but for $200, im happy to let me 6 year old play with itautoflavour
- slap it through some pedals and it'll be good fun too.microkorg
- yeah thats what im thinking.. or hoping someone mods it or somethingautoflavour

LOFELT BASSLET
https://lofelt.com?rfsn=594499.a…...I backed the Kickstarter for this project last summer then received the thing around december. They've just started an affiliate/referral scheme for orginal purchasers so I thought I'd use my link to see if anyone on QBN was interested in this little bass-wearable - and I'll get a nice little 'thank you' from Lofelt if you buy one.
So this is a little wearable that vibrates like a subwoofer and once you've worn it for a few minutes your body 'feels' the bass along with the music. You feel more involved in the music.
I use this daily at work to listen to Spotify but I also use it at home for music production when I'm using headphones. Being able to hear and FEEL the real deep bass makes headphone production so much more accurate.
Now you'll probably be saying "if he wants me to click on the link and buy this then he's obviously going to rave about it".
But genuinely and truthfully it is frigging amazing.Four to the floor sounds/feels a little shite on this though but hip hop, drum and bass and even oldies like Stevie Wonder - his synths, organs, clavinets etc sound amazing!

Akai Tom Cat was as expected.. ok, kind of underwhelming..
does what it does ok, but wasnt expecting more.. so .. maybe like C+ or B- for a mark..- Thought so. the wolf was pants but maybe ok if you didnt have anything better.microkorg
- bar is set too high with the equipment owned in this thread. sorry to hear it could not at least be entertaining.imbecile
- I read those things can't even stay in tune...sounds like a Dsublocked
- its ok, but not amazing. satisfied for the price thoautoflavour

Quick question for you guys.
Can I use a program like Ableton to make old school Jamaican dub remixes of existing tracks or samples?
What is being used in videos of the 70s and 80s where it looks like Augustus Pablo and other dub artists have a huge mixing board in front of them?
- yep it's a huge mixing desk and loads of real effects.
But with skill you can make anything in any DAW you prefer.fadein11 - lots and lots of insane delays - space echos etc. which are all available as pluginsfadein11
- by skill I mean a studio engineer can replicate anything, may not sound as exactly like authentic outboard gear but it can be close.fadein11
- I'm rambling again but yes you will get dub effects relatively easily. I use the tape delay built in in logic - it actually has a preset called ultradub which Ifadein11
- use loads for dub style fx.fadein11
- https://tal-software…
good free delay.. great for dubby stuffautoflavour - You want be able to make a "dub" unless you have stems from the track you want to make a dub version of.section_014
- And stems are?HijoDMaite
- yep it's a huge mixing desk and loads of real effects.

- I mean, it's pretty reasonable price tag imoprophetone
- still lusting after the RYTM.. see too much overlap with the octatrack here for me to warrant the Digitaktautoflavour
