- how much money have you got to spend? a great start would be an iPad with choice apps. Next up would be buying Ableton or Bitwig....microkorg
- Then if you have more money, Ableton & Push2 or NI Maschine. If you already have a computer.microkorg
- Hardware route can be expensive but you could buy some retro groovebox.
It all depends on budget.microkorg - suppose I had $1000.dorf
- got a computer or ipad?microkorg
- yes, ipad is old though.dorf
- maschineimbecile
- computer + ableton. I don't even use Ableton. But, if I was starting today, I wouldn't even think twice.section_014
- Electron Octatrackspunji
- iPad + Korg Gadget ...best bang for the buck. Easiest to get rolling. Don't buy a retro grooveboox. Gadget is a modern day version of that + much more.sublocked

For DORF ...
Great iPad apps for beatmaking .....
Samplr - even older ipads should support this.
Korg Gadget - basically a DAW in iPad with lots of in app purchases of new instruments etc. This would be a great introduction into music making.
If you want to chop up beats Hip Hop style then get the AKAI iMPC app.
Modstep is pretty cool
https://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/…There's loads and loads of brilliant music makign apps out there that'll only cost a few pounds but will do what thousands of pounds worth of gear can do.
Perhaps even worth investing in a new iPad rather than hardware or software?
I don't mind making beats on iPad when on holiday or just chilling but only feel like im jamming.
For more serious music making i'd much rather be in front of laptop/monitor with Ableton Live.

- love it.. but i just wish they would make these things a usable size.. the boutique stuff is just too tinky and smallautoflavour
- This'll really piss off Behringer who were doing the Moog clone.microkorg

Sounds pretty much the same .. new display, instant sampling..
Still.. sex
- No Overbridge.microkorg
- If they've softened the feel of it...
Aren't they kind of OCD when it comes to their product? (In the most wonderful way)keewee - it would have to have overbridge..
you would thinkautoflavour - not a big fan of overbridge tbh, the usb audio sounds shit + don't see how it would fit with a sampler instrument, i imagine they'll have some sort of editor...kingsteven
- OB gives you instant access to loads of parameters that you can tweak that you'd maybe not have tried tweaking from having to menu dive on OT.microkorg
- When I had my A4 I used to find OB most useful for sound creation much moreso than just the A4.microkorg

Still sounds as fresh as it did back then. A masterpiece of the genre.

Talk me IN or OUT of buying an MPC1000!
I've got the chance of getting a really clean Black Mk2 (better pads) that's been well taken care of with no mods done apart from JJOS2XL installed and 128mb RAM upgrade.
For £400 it's a pretty decent deal for a clean machine with the full JJOS. There's some shitheaps of mis-treated 1000's going for like 350 on ebay with no upgrades. Why SHOULD I get one?
Well, I've lusted over the 1000's (and the 2500 and older machines) for years now and just really want one. I'd like to pimp it a little as these machines look the SEX with a little pimping.
I want to use it for fingerdrumming and sampling loops and playing along with my Numark PT-01 Scratch turntable whilst scratching.
And it'd be nice to jam away from a computer too.Why SHOULDN'T I get one?
The wife will go ape.
I already have Maschine and Push AND the iMPC Pro App - maybe I could just get an Element or MPD218 for portable pads?Any of you guys got one?
Are they a pain in the ass to program etc?In a real tiswas here /
- solution: "what's that?... the what? no no, I've had it for ages..."prophetone
- regarding the gear you'll already have, you'll be disappointed. Don't buy, except if you have too much money.ApeRobot
- I've actually owned two of these via great local deals, in both cases just messed around with em, wound up selling them to buy rack gearprophetone
- Grab a cheap little Yamaha SU10 or Roland MS-1, I have both of them, limited but super fun for loopsprophetone
- I used to have a Yamaha SU200 back in the day when they were released. Decided to buy the MPC. If i dont gel with it then i can sell it for more easily.microkorg
- ... and ive lusted over one for years :Pmicrokorg
- give it a shot, they are cool, built like a tank and unlike machine/push doesn't need no stinkin laptop (produce beats in starbucks)prophetone
- go for it! these are so cheap now.
i buy and pimp these out, then sell them.
i kept one for myself which i use on the regular, very fun.futurefood - had a 2000XL for a bunch of years.. in the end was just so tedious to always load stuff up i sold it..autoflavour
- Picking it up monday. Whoop!microkorg
- The 2000XL look nice though. I was watching a fuct one on eBay. Went for £90. Nearly grabbed it for a nice shelf decoration. Nicer than a fuckin' vase ;)microkorg
- Shouldn't get one: Akai makes garbage products. Akai of the 80's & 90's isn't Akai of today.section_014
- Save your money, add $2-300 more and buy the MPC Live. Even with JJOS you'll find it lacking. Had one for years, sold it. Ableton is light years better.sublocked
- yassssss!!! a MPC live for $6-700??? tell me where!futurefood
- autoflavour6
- you ever record or master onto tape?inteliboy
- Auto's toys!microkorg
- Here's hoping the Machinedrum get's a 2.0 like the rest of the lineup. I totally missed out when those were going for cheap.section_014
- way back in the day i used to record everything onto DATs as takes, but that was only because it was before DAW were affordable..autoflavour
- Machinedrum already has a MKII ..autoflavour
- am lusting hard over a RYTM tho.. if only for symmetry ..autoflavour
- A lot of RYTMs popping up on eBay ATM... does that mean a 2.0 is imminent?...keewee
- keewee ... already happened.microkorg
- You have more toys than I do.sublocked
- late to the game...keewee
