I don't get how this is "a little 'me too'". Win8 was obviously created with touch in mind and this is the perfect touch device. I love Apple products but I can appreciate innovation when I see it and Win8 OS is innovative and very different from the aging UI of apple OS. Thank God someone is pushing a more integrated experience and a UI that is different from those chicklet icons. Competition is a great thing.

Why bother?

Imagine the iPad had never been released. Microsoft's whole strategy and product line would look completely different.

The 13" macbook pro can still run laps around the windows Surface.
- the W.O.P.R. runs laps around both of those fools...prophetone
- To be fair the W.O.P.R. isn't portable though :|ukit2

I'm just glad to see companies push and drive inovation as I can't be bothered with the Twilight level of fanboy devotism based on whoever is team werewolf and team faggypants these days.
Some ideas will pan out and some will just die. And at the rate things are moving we certainly are to benefit. To Microsofts credit they tried something new.. that's a good thing.

Is it a little concerning that there's still so little known? No prices, no release dates, no mention of things like battery life, no demo units for the press to actually try. Plus the whole Windows RT vs Windows 8 Pro thing looks like it has potential to really confuse consumers.

Why the gesturing fuck would I get out all my nicely organised photo albums only to have them scattered 'organically' all over this TV-that-fell-over, leaving me to spend the rest of the day doing a Bez impression and sorting them all out again?

nice step. touch+keyboard seems like a good combo for productivity.

That keyboard looks like the worst of both worlds.
So what are they actually gonna sell this thing? Or is this like the last time they made a product called Surface that was nothing but vaporware and a few $10K+ demo units.

No release date yet.
No screen resolution details given yet.
One model does Windows RT (just the Metro interface) this one has ARM processors. The other model is called "Surface for Windows 8 Pro" this one has Intel processors and does both Windows 8 and the Metro interface. 1st one they say should be around the other tablets price, the 2nd one will cost higher of course.Nothing truly exciting here, at least to me.

Dubstep officially dead

^ It's because they switched the names around. "Surface" used to refer to the giant table, now it refer to the tablet and the table is called something else.
- are you talking to me? because it's fixed now. surface.comalbums
- it was dead for the 12 or so hours since this tweet
https://twitter.com/…albums - Yeah, just saying that's why those broken links show up in Google. They used to point to the table product website which got taken offline.qoob
- got taken offline.qoob
- i'm aware of the big table. I'm not aware why they would tweet a product with a dead link thoughalbums

How are they going to explain to old people what the difference between the Intel and Arm versions are and what Windows RT means?
