i was ready to feel 'meh' about this thing, but once i started playing with it, i realized just how useful this thing is (speaking more of the pro version)
it's a tablet with the accomodating metro ui and by adding a usb port for keyboard and mouse and an hdmi for display turns it into a full-fledged pc.
i haven't really read this thread till now or followed this device at all so this probably isn't news to anyone, but i see a lot of possibilities here.

the idea of this product seem so promising. but it still feel like it's been holding back.

having said that, i'm a little unhappy with some of the ux and decisions to remove the start button. i've heard there's a way to get it back though..
- apaprently it's coming back in the next iteration of Win8detritus
- still not going to do shit. it only brings you to the tile screen... *from what i've heard.pango
- it's also a thick, heavy beast of a tablet with pathetic battery life, and that's without an HDMI display and USB keyboard attached.monospaced

Microsoft announced Surface 2 and Surface 2 Pro today. Will go on sale September 24th. Millions plan to purchase this truly innovative tablet and thousands line up at Microsoft stores days early to ensure they are first to get their hands on this groundbreaking technology.

- Proof Apple can't innovate. It's all a game of catch-up from here.monospaced

I guess we'll see. I was waiting for the Pro version and see some actual tests with Photoshop, 3D Studio, etc. Hopefully they'll be out soon.
Right now, I have a $750 iPad that is nothing more than a big phone I can't make calls with. I love it, but that's a lot for something that I can only show video presentations, images, etc., with.
I'd love to sell my iPad and have one device. I don't want a laptop, but need something I can work on when needed.
I don't understand why they don't cut the price substantially. Shit, they are already taking massive losses! Just take them up front and gain some market share.
- for the price of the Surface Pro, you could get a Macbook Airmonospaced
- The Surface Pro has respectable specs too, so it is more like a laptop than a tablet, not badmonospaced
- I need Windows to run 3DSMax. I don't like the Air, honestly. I don't want a little laptop.formed
- Then get a PC, lolmonospaced

There it is - the Surface 2!

- Yes, I'm talking about the Promonospaced
- which you can't compare to an ipad because it's clearly a different device...zarkonite
- bitch please, WHO fucking compared it to an iPad? I compared it to a MacBook Air.monospaced

Surface 2 Pro with 512GB memory: $1799
Docking station: $199
Touch Power Cover: $199
Total: $2197- This is going to change everythingmonospaced
- macbook air with 512GB SSD: 1750 (EUROS!) Running around with 20 adapters: $0mekk

What else that small has a 512GB SSD?
I agree, that's crazy pricing, but I can't find anything comparable (Dell's 12" XPS is the closest and it is cheaper)
Windows OS is still nicer than iOS, imho, or Android, but w/o someone at the top with vision (listen to the quotes from the guy at MS running the Surface show it sounds like he's been in a closet for years) things can't ever get right.
Spin off Nokia and Surface and get someone with vision to run it. Shit, maybe I should go buy the stock...that sounds like a good strategy. I doubt cool can ever be associated with MS.

Dell just announced a 27" horizontal display, which is like the Microsoft Surface without the PC attached. Windows powered (no Mac), integrated with Adobe software and other creative software, and it comes with similar accessories. It's called Dell Canvas. Want.
- if/when it gains "retina" resolution — along with steeper video requirements — it could be a game changer, in my opinionmonospaced
