I can't believe these people who are saying having more people armed is the answer. People who say "if only I'd been in that theatre/school/mall..." scare the hell out of me...even more than a crazy gunman.
I was raised around guns, learned to respect them, and even though I was comfortable with them and a good shot, I know that there's a big difference in hitting a stationary object vs. a moving object under duress. The stupidity is mind boggling.
- including anti gun nuts. I am not exactly a gun lover, I dont buy all the rhetoric and all the reactionaries.yurimon
- what's your point?monkeyshine

A lot of these people are fed by a twisted glory, trying to be remembered for something and the media helps with their notoriety.
They should never publish their pictures or refer to them by name, but instead refer to them by an identifier like idiot #2345

I was an anti gun advocate before. I was cheering anti gun rhetoric during columbine. I saw roger moore's movie on the incident and I was cheering anti gun. I later found out he left alot of information out. Eventually I looking into it and there was alot of bullshit not brought up into the open. like prescription drugs and behind the scenes help. Doesnt add up. Also alot of these other events have similar profiles. So its not just a gun issue, and the core circumstances are not what they seem.
also there are alot more people who have prevented or stopped crime then is statistical kept or reported.
So Sorry guys. I am pained by this tragedy but its going to take alot more to manufacture my consent. These are the times political of bullshit. I will wait for more info.
When the world disarms in freedom and doesn't disarm in dictatorship. Yes it will be a better place. for now its going to be the constant manufactured events chiseling away at the mind of the public. Eat your bullshit people and like it because there will be more coming from the same people who's manipulation you subscribe to.
- You've never been anything but a troll.i_monk
- what a sad world you live in. I guess you've never held or loved a child._niko
- while you're waiting for your consent to be manufactured, we're going to pass sensible gun laws.monkeyshine

if you ban semi-automatics, you'll be banning 70% of all firearms in circulation. i feel that a major misconception of terms (label) and aesthetics is the first boundary in creating relevant firearm regulation.
the press and general pubic don't understand how these things are classified. it's also important to note that Fully Automatics are already prohibited to own by civilians in the United States. (The National Firearms Act of 1934)
So how do you regulate an estimated 189,000,000* semi-automatic pistols, shotguns, rifles and specialized/homemade firearms? (do keep in mind that they are already deemed legal.) also you really can't use fire action (mechanic) as the identifying indicator. rate of fire on semi autos are built on a technology that's over 130 years old. The technology has effectively been implemented on all firearms that require a "one pull, one round" action.
to add to that, local law enforcement, state enforcement and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms itself have admittedly testified before congress and senate that defining "assault rifle" would be difficult in any legislation drafted in which would need to draw clear definition / distinction between semi automatic sport / recreational and semi automatic assault / pera-military.
simply, the definition of "assault" is hard to define in the gun marketplace. is a semi automatic shotgun an assault firearm? They are very commonly used in spot.
It's not that i think there shouldn't be a refinement on our gun laws. lord knows most of our laws could use some tweaking. i believe that concentrating on the firearms alone isn't the solution. national registries don't do jack in preventing gun violence, and restrictions on concealment only stop law abiding citizens.
i feel that legislation on ammo is where some answers might lie.
today, you can buy up to a metric ton without government intervention. Now, i do believe that hunting and fire range are illegitimate ways to pass time. Just like fishing, project houses and videos games. I dont do any of that shit, but im not going to stop those who do. that's where a lot of gun control advocates stop considering. they simply want guns out of the picture. I do not believe that is realistic approach to solve this harsh problem and it is hard to take people seriously when they simply don't address the problem in the real world.sorry for the wall of text; thanks for reading.

* Karp, Aaron. 2007. ‘Completing the Count: Civilian firearms.’ Fire Arms Survey 2007: Guns and the City, p. 67. Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. 27 August.)- make them illegal and government can buy them back from owner. like they've done in many countrieshotroddy
- they do this already, guns for toys/ etc programsantagonlsta
- also people like their guns. it is a national pastime, The United States has a very long history with gun ownership.antagonlsta
- They also liked slaves once too.
Morning_star - Morning, sorry i dont see the connection.antagonlsta
- Just because a society likes something doesn't mean it is good. Get rid of all guns.Morning_star
- see, i can't see the world just forgetting about guns one day.. remove them form the military, law enforcement ?antagonlsta
- Looking at the US from the UK I cannot comprehend the justification for guns...Morning_star
- 500 US kids were killed this year in their own home by accident. That alone is reason enough.Morning_star
- Do you live in the US?antagonlsta
- 532 cases of child abductions in 2011/12 in the UK. you can't run from crime.antagonlsta
- No. UK.Morning_star
- Not running from crime. Just don't see the need for guns. There is NO justification.
Morning_star - http://www.ons.gov.u…antagonlsta
- how about war?antagonlsta
- Not sure what your point is. Do you think those stats from the UK would be better if we had guns?Morning_star
- Our police are armed, so is our military. Our civilian population are not. Your point?Morning_star
- well, i have problems with people who think "all" guns should be banned. i mean you dont seem be one of those people.antagonlsta
- but, there is a need and a place for guns.antagonlsta
- Agreed. Very controlled. Every time someone fires a round whether Military or Police it is accounted for, the reason and the result.Morning_star
- ...the result. And the penalties for firing without reason are very harsh. Sometimes prison.Morning_star

^ Did you just liken gun ownership to fishing?
- linking pastimes .. how about racing, gambling, child pageantsantagonlsta
- calculator0
Yes. Fishing, racing, gambling and child pageants kills a huge amount of people each year.
- you dont think gambling destroys people lives?antagonlsta

How about road trips with drinking and driving. Recreation drug overdoses. Prescription drug overdoses in recreational doctor visits.
Kill much more then recreation gun uses. but that an inconvenient truth i guess in this type of discussion.- well, when i bring up those numbers, people tell me they aren't relevant. soo. i guess those deaths aren't as important as gun violence .antagonlsta
- relevant has gun violence is..antagonlsta
- Your facts please? Link?Morning_star
- for the uk? im sure can dig up those numbers. but also look back a few pagesantagonlsta
- ive done extensive research on it and was met with nothing but adolescence remarks.antagonlsta
- so does cancer and heart disease, what's your point? We can talk about all these things elsewhere._niko
- if you can see how it's relevant then the conversation end with you.antagonlsta

- Every day, almost 30 people in the United States die in motor vehicle crashes that involve an alcohol-impaired driver.

you know what kills more people recreational eating... like fat greasy shit people eat everyday that end up with diabetes or heart attacks.
Lets ban shit that will have greater chance of statistically killing you.- agreed, but an obese kid can get help and live a long life, there is no getting help from a bullet to the head._niko
- But someone can't steal their mum's burger and go into school with it and kill a group of children (they'd need more burgers and many more years)BaskerviIle

if you see a car driving down the street, moving towards you. Chances are, you don't feel fear or think that driver is going to harm you.
but, if you see a guy walking down the street with a handgun holstered to his side, walking towards you, do you all feel fear or in danger?
- Both fear and danger. I'd also ask why he felt the need to carry it.Morning_star
- Not all gun owners kill. just like not all drivers kill. & statistically speaking.. that car..antagonlsta
- That car is not design to kill. That car is also full of safety features that try to prevent injury and deathMorning_star
- guns have a safety switch.. ( i know im being ridiculous now)antagonlsta
