Has Apple released a single original product since Steve Jobs died?
- nope.utopian
- Apple is becoming more like Microsoft every day.utopian
- Mac Promonospaced
- also, you act as if Steve released a new original product every week... they were years apartmonospaced

Hey kids! Apple is so cool again. Jimmy Iovine!!! He's the guy who worked with Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks, and Meat Loaf!
And now he's working on subscription-based music streaming service that Apple will want to integrate into their iTunes. Now Apple will make it cool to pay for music again! Radical!- *white man overbite & devil horns!randommail
- what's wrong with integrating a music service like that and an industry leader with decades of experience?monospaced
- Jimmy was friends with Stevemonospaced

personally, I hope apple goes back to being the ultimate underdog, with just a small niche of people who enjoy what they offer, just so people stop expecting more of them than their competitors
- The genie is out of the bottle, shareholders would never let it happen. I wish for the same mono.utopian
- I'm seriously sick of hearing about how they aren't innovating. All they're doing is keeping their great products great.monospaced
- products great. That's all any consumer can expect from them, or anyonemonospaced
- maybe their biggest problem was trying to appeal to the masses.monospaced
- Steve always wanted to appeal to the masses, they just got side tracked for 15+ years while he was out.zarkonite

Apple's a public company. Just look at the debacle that Icahn caused - shareholder activism is a powerful motivator. Stock prices will always drive the show.
What I personally don't understand is their unwillingness to take much risk. Jobs had plenty of failures, Apple did a whole, but it seems (and I could be wrong) they've just decided to go to sleep at the wheel and hoard their cash.
Buying Beats would just seem odd if they were acquiring other companies. They could have bought Harmon and Pandora, then hired Iovine and had the best of everything. Everyone would have applauded that, even if it cost $20b - pennies to them and consistent with their "best" approach. Then they could take the "best quality" and make it "Apple". Now they'll have a hard time convincing people that Apple isn't less quality via Beats influence.
But if all they care about is cash, then buying a low margin, super trendy company like Beats makes sense...for a year or two. Then maybe they will sell it, make even more money after they add a "quality" product to the line. Who knows, obviously smarter people there than on here, but it just seems so bizarre, like someone was at a Hollywood party, drunk and high, and said "yeah, I wanna be cool and hang with you guys!"
- I believe you could be wrong. Anyone who thinks Apple isn't doing anything is cray craymonospaced
- you're not crazy, but it's crazy to assume they aren't neck deep in R&D. Otherwise Tim would be lyingmonospaced
- When a company under this much scrutiny promises new products, they probably plan to actually work on themmonospaced
- Of course they are. It just seems so odd to be so secretive, have such meticulous attention to detail and quality, true perfectionism - which I loveformed
- perfectionism - which I love and applaud - and then buy a company I wouldn't be caught dead near, let alone owningformed
- put another way, if they bought Harmon and Pandora I'd buy their stock now, Beats I need to see an amazing plan that no one else seesformed
- no one else seesformed
- you seem like a smart guy, I'm seriously surprised you don't see the plan with Beats (hint, it's not headphones)monospaced
- it's black people?Milan
- mono - I've posted several times what Wall St assumes it'll be, but they, and me, don't see the logicformed
- hence the Harmon (cars systems would integrate w iCar or whatever it is called, that is not succeeding) and streaming, but a second level product in Beatsformed
- a second level product. "Hiring" Iovine seems like an awfully expensive signing bonus!formed
- You make it clearer in every comment your ignorance of he deal.monospaced
- its all about the streaming lol!!!!fadein11
