Interesting. Though I don't like his work. Understand he's revered, but his shit seems so obvious and crass to me. Wonder what design influence he'll start spitting out at Apple.

I am not sure what Newson brings. Ive is a big enough name and proven track record. I don't care for Newson's work, personally, seems pretentious and silly, almost childish meaninglessness (great word).
Maybe Cook want's to build that boat Jobs was after, but I fear that they are putting together an A list of "celebrities", without much purpose (TAG and Burberry hires were smart, Beats takes Apple down a notch, in my book, Newson just seems redundant).
It'll push up expectations, though, and be more fun to watch.
