Was really hoping to see a new Apple TV
- and no MacWorld Expo in 2015monospaced
- Me too.. Apple TV definitely the red-headed step child.ETM

Say what you want, I'm very excited to look at 36 MP photos on a 14 MP screen.

The new iMac is set to be the about same price as Dell's 5k monitor. So yeah, you're buying 5K Apple screen and getting a free computer built in to the back of it.
- A nicer screen by far actually. Plus it has thunderbolt ports and so much more.monospaced
- Which screen is nicer? I thought neither of these exist in physical form yet....?nb
- The Apple one is much nicer, based entirely on the reveal details and other public specsmonospaced
- yeah, i saw that too. crazy good deal on the imac. if you compare that way.akrok

I can't imagine Dell can stick to those prices. I'd even bet it was a misprint if it hadn't been out for a month. $1250 seems reasonable to me.
$2500 ain't cheap for an i5 process and nothing you can really expand, but it sure is a nice looking piece of hardware.
As I've always said, once they put Windows on it I'll switch (my software doesn't run on OS X).
Anyone else suprised they didn't announce at least a plan to put OSX on an ipad? I thought for sure they'd surprise and realize that the market is going that way. They will, eventually, but I guess Apple, as usual, thinks it can wait a few years to catch up to the market.
.16mm thinner does nothing for me, my v3 is fine for reading and surfing. Nicer, but ain't worth more than maybe $50 (if I could trade in).- When Apple decides
to put OSX on an iPad
they will be called
fucking geniuses!organicgrid - you can put windows on it out of the box, always have been able to, and it's an i7monospaced
- the base is 15, but upgradable to i7 (+250$)ESKEMA
- the base is i5, but upgradable to i7 (+250$)ESKEMA
- Right. Dell set the price for an xmas release not aware that this computer was coming out. They'll probably drop the price by release time.nb
- release time.nb
- Yeah. And no, I don't want to install Windows, nor a processor. I also want onsite tech support (Apple STILL does nto provide decent support)formed
- Love the design, build quality, hate the "controlled ecosystem" and supportformed
- no way dell is going to go HALF price. maybe 500 less.akrok
- unless other 5K displays pops up for less money.akrok

- that shits responsivefadein11
- lol no, OSX zooms it in, crisp fonts and blurry images you have then. Also software is blurry when no updated.mekk
- like you put your browser zoom on 200%mekk
- why would someone want it then? its pure crap! We're not there yet.benfal99
- someone has to start, eh?mekk
- we have had retina laptops for awhile, it's only a matter of time before it goes to bigger screensmonospaced
- yup, also we demanded Apple 4K displays for long.mekk
- anyway, the scaling up of the pixels simply results in what a regular screen looks like, so it's not actually blurrymonospaced
- non retina is awful to go back to.inteliboy

First we double images. I am good with that. Progress, more clarity and quality. SVG is growing as well. Now bitmapped content has to be 4x the size for 5k. Sometimes you don't even have source images that will be appropriate.
Does Apple consider the flip side that uneducated consumers will be dissatisfied with the lack of fidelity on their new iMac with a lot of apps and most websites? The majority of sites still haven't optimized for retina, they won't be for 4k/5k.
We recently reprocessed an archive of content to improve images for retina and it won't be happening again. Much of the older source material was barely good enough for retina.
- I think it's still 2x, they didn't step up pixel densityuan
- It's 4x the resolution of previous model.monospaced
- It's the combo of pixel density and shear pixel real estate in bringing what's really a work station res to a general use machine.ETM
- machine the public consumes. We'll have to rethink our max limits of responsive design again. 1200 is barely half the screen.ETM
- screen now.ETM

"Can we have that image in web res" could die with those Monitors coming up.

Apple has begun automatically collecting the locations of users and the queries they type when searching for files with the newest Mac operating system, a function that has provoked backlash for a company that portrays itself as a leader on privacy.
- and they only use it to improve searches, and it's not actually connected to a permanent IDmonospaced

No one has, really. I'd say everything out there was so good that is what the future holds.formed - good that is what the future holds.
