Apple Watch sales are down 55%

The Apple Watch is soooo last year.

A new report from market intelligence firm IDC shows Apple Watch sales have dropped 55% since the product was launched in early 2015.

The watch debuted to a backlog of orders and 3.6 million units were shipped in its first three months on the market. But sales plummeted to just 1.6 million in the latest quarter, according to IDC. That's in spite of a price discount.

    • well they're doing quite well in mongolia!

    • why do so many salivate at the idea of Apple failing?inteliboy
    • it's mostly all the fanboys and "loyal" customers, outside of here I think they are a superb company :-)formed
    • Sales didn't plummet as much as competition. Sold more than all competition combined. Raked in enough cash to make Samsung nut its pantsmonospaced
    • But yes. Let's focus on the guy who won and ignore the guys who didn't even finish the race.monospaced
    • The watch was a "mee too!" product, everybody rushed these things, tech isn't there yet for a proper smart watchernexbcn
    • Exactly. Everyone who wanted one got one. Anyway. The chart here is both insignificant and completely unrelated and irrelevant to the watch sales pointmonospaced

Are they ever going to release a new Macbook pro? The one's they're offering are so out of date and overpriced (I know they've always been overpriced). I wish I didn't like OSX so much, or I would just run Linux full time. I've been waiting for new one's to launch since 2015.

I barely do design anymore (ie. use Adobe products), so I could probably run some sort of hybrid Linux / Windows setup for dev work. OSX is so nice though. Wish they would just open source it, or sell it without the hardware.

    • They do sell it without the hardware. You just have to work a little to get it going.monospaced

^ I have a 2011 MBP. It's dying slowly (mic broken, keyboard broken, slow, looks like ass).

Want a new one but they have only dated hardware with 15" to offer. And they removed the nvidia GPU, put in a cheaper/slower amd GPU and raised the price. WTF Apple.

  • sofakingback0

Well I read something about an update for the 15 macbook pro. it has a digital keypad area.

Which sounds kinda horrible if you ask me. Sounds like the new heads of apple are trying to be steve jobs by being innovative, by adding something new to the laptop market.

I just don't think they understand what it means to be innovative with the purpose to make the product better. instead they will try to be different just to be different. I mean who the fuck wants a digital keyboard??? wtf.

    • to be honest the clicking simulation thingy on the small macbook's touch area works very goodmekk

    I'm officially Apple-less.

The last Apple product I was using is now out of my life.

I switched from Mac to Windows a few years ago.
I switched from iPhone to Android last year.

Well I just dumped iTunes for Music Bee this week.

I was using iSync and iTunes to put music on my new xperia phone and I was struggling with lots of fuckups. Then i discovered that i can sync my phone directly in Music Bee! Like an iPhone in iTunes! And it works perfectly!

Music Bee is an open source software. Way much better than iTunes! Fully customisable, you can changed everything in it as you wish. You can also add lyrics, upcoming shows, access wikipedia of an artist, see the upcoming albums...

    Bye Apple.

    R&D:

"Over the past nine months, the company spent $7.475 billion on R&D — that compares to $5.847 billion over the same time period the previous year. And it’s part of a continued trend in the face of lowered revenues that points to a company looking to break out of a stagnation in innovation that has largely seen iteration on existing product categories over the last several years. Apple is spending more of its total revenue on research and development than it has in some years, pointing to a company that’s looking to shake things up once again."

    • Spending more money because they don't have the ideas-man Jobs around anymore?nb
    • Or because they just aren't coming up with anything good, so they're throwing money at the problem? I'm just speculating. Obviously nobody here knows.nb
    • A lot of it is that they're simply scaling. A bigger company is going to spend more on everything, including R&D, as they expand into more areas.monospaced
