- good luck with that Apple, it's still a tablet, not a computerformed
- (psst... they make computers too)monospaced
- mono never disappoints! Maybe they should have added that to the video...but that would defeat the entire adformed

- New iPad is pretty sweet actually. Can't replace a laptop if you do specialized work but for people using Word docs, spreadsheets, email it could.yuekit

Yeah, it seems the MacBook Pros are getting AMD Polaris 11 GPUs, that would be pretty great, the same GPU as the Playstation Neo on a laptop? feels good.
Let's see about the rest of the lineup: iMacs, Mac Minis and Mac Pros are in need of updates too.
- Aren't console GPUs typically a generation or two behind PCs' anyway? Or is even that representative of a catchup where Apple's concerned?detritus
- They can use the bestest GPU's around but Apple's drivers will always be the weak point. Bundling drivers with OS updates? Terrible practise.face_melter
- @detritus Polaris 11 GPUs are new, the Radeon RX 480 just came out, that's supposedly the same chip the new PS4 coming out this year has.ernexbcn
- Console hardware is the mid-range PC hardware from 1-2 seasons ago. Nothing to go nuts about.mekk
- I still don't understand why Apple has replaced Nvidia with AMD GPUs and managed to charge more for the cheaper GPU. Dickheads.mekk

WTF is taking them so long? Original rumors were pointing to this summer. Now we are hearing no September announcement either. If something isn't at least announced this fall, I don't even know how I will feel. I've been waiting so fucking long, and I'm almost to the point where I really need a new laptop so I can't wait much longer.
I'm so sick of this, if something isn't out by the end of this coming semester I'm just going to get a Surface Book or something. It seems Apple can't do anything right now that Steve is gone. They should put all that R & D money into bringing back Steve instead of the new Macbook.
- eh Its better they get it right.sofakingback

I'm supposed to re-outfit some of our designers with new mac pros, given the lame state of affairs right now do you guys think there's going to be an update in September?
- I'm talking real macs, not books. It's for motion design and onlining.zarkonite
- there SHOULD be some this fallmonospaced
- Motion design? Build a PC. A better platform for that work in every way.section_014
- Our IT guy is a mac minion, he wouldn't even admit that the pros are out of date and bad value =) but hey, budget's not exactly a problem.zarkonite
- Why do you have an IT guy and are still tasked with getting new computers? Looks like someone does not want to take responsibility for buying outdated hardwaremekk
- Budgets are cyclical, if I don't get as much as I can for my money this time around it's going to be a pain point for a while. I'd rather wait 2 months to pullzarkonite
- the trigger and get real new computers instead of already outdated hardware.zarkonite

Tim Cook says Apple won't repatriate money to US 'until there's a fair rate'
- How about better rates on those gold laptops you sell there at Apple?********
- Of course he won't, why would he? People have this bizarre notion that Apple exists for something other than making money. That's it.formed
- They don't care about a thing beyond extracting every last cent from every customer.formed
- Apple has made some paths toward improving the lively hood of its customers outside of their product.********
- but who wants a business in their country that aims to suck the money out, without putting it back. Especially a company we voted top by buying their products.********

I'm looking to get a new iMac for the home office. I'm looking at the new 21.5" model and I'm just wondering if going up to the 4k Retina 3.1GHz model over the standard screen 2.8 GHz model is worth it. I got up close and personal with both in the Apple store and I didn't see any striking differences.
Mono?!? Thoughts?
- get the larger screen so you can upgrade the ram yourself, screw the 21.5monospaced
- I use a retina Macbook Pro, but haven't actually used a retina iMac, so can't say if that would be worth it.monospaced
- I know... but it won't be my primary computer and will most likely be used by the family and me as an external monitor to my macbook prokona
- er, I'll use it primarily as an external monitor, the family will use it for stupid shit like yo gabba gabba and octonauts and minecraft bullshitkona
- I'd still say to spring for the 27". It's at least got a dedicated video card.monospaced
- my wallet hates you...
:)kona - I wouldn't go back to a non-Retina screen ever, except for testing stuff on. Definitely worth getting Retina.nb
- You couldn't see the difference in resolution? Honestly, you may want to have your eyes checked. (I'm not trying to be a dick at all.)nb
- lol. funny you mention that nb. i wear progressive lenses and at 42 i'm told by the doctor 'you have the eyes of a 50 year old'. nice.kona
- i pulled up a number of pages, apps, and programs on both machines and it wasn't blowing me away noticeable.kona
- $300 extra for what is, essentially, a $900 display and better performance is worth it. Especially when, 4 years down the line, you're still happy with it.monospaced
- Yeah, might be your eyes. Sometimes with photographs it can be difficult to see the difference, but with text, icons, vectors, etc the difference is Yuuuuuuuge.nb
- yo gabba gabba is amazingprophetone
- and minecraft is not bullshitmonospaced
- I know you two, but with 3 boys and both yo gabba and minecraft on so much between them it's easy to get sick of it.kona
- the big ones 5K not 4K - go for it!fadein11
- you can't use the 27" retina iMac as an external monitor.refunktion

Every time I charge my Macbook Pro the cord becomes a fire hazard.
- maybe keep the cord from the fire pit you fucking hippie?lvl_13
- on a serious note, the cords are pretty shit. especially after a year or so. i've resorted to electrical tape in spots :\lvl_13
- lol. Mine gets super hot every time I charge.dbloc
- yeah, mine has started to do that as well. although it's about as hot as when i put the macbook on my lap...especially after running several adobe productslvl_13
- I use my Macbook cord to bake bread.utopian
- I don't have a Macbook. Problem solved.sureshot
- @dbloc i had the same problem, dirt on pins & port induce electric resistance hence the heat. Use a toothbrush, clean that shit out.FixMiller
- I know this was an Apple recall at some point. They sent my wife a new one for free. You may want to check on this.fyoucher1
- AH AHPPLE!Bennn
- you're talking about the brick part right? yeah mine gets crazy hot too.HijoDMaite
- Water's the key. Peel away a bit of the outer plastic cord and place it in a glass of water. Electricity is cooled BEFORE it gets into your computer.Morning_star

- To be fair, most larger companies do thispinkfloyd

- What is fair about it pinkfloyd? We Americans have to pay our fair share of taxes for everything, but American corporations are allowed to skirt the law?utopian

- Not saying it's fair to the average person, but that other larger companies are doing the samepinkfloyd

- Here's my analogy. A fishbowl has $10 inside, Apple sells the fishbowl something for $9. Good luck living in that fishbowl with that $1********
- From the $230B Apple has, 60% made internationally. The other 40% totaling $92B should be in the U.S. where it began. instead of shortchanged with $16.6B.********

Apple Must Pay Billions for Tax Breaks in Ireland, E.U. Orders
- $14b to be exactformed

- This'll be the start of something big. I can't believe so many companies thought they could evade by moving, it'll catch up to them all.formed
- they "thought" they could because certain countries in the EU allowed it (invited it), and it fit the tax loopholes of both the US and the EU.monospaced
