Since when has the celebration of the winter solecist had anything thing to do with those christians?
Ok I'm going back to watch the live sacrifice online...
- since they stole it from the pagansmonospaced
- When did this happen? And whose this Jesus kid?qTime
- it happened 1,000 years after he died, in Romemonospaced
- Jesus was just this happy-go-lucky Jew who was ultimately misunderstood and put on a pedestalmonospaced

Atheism: is religion. without the concept of god there is no such thing as atheism period. the whole concept is an antithesis depending on its survival on an opposite thesis. double irony.
Real christians dont celebrate Christmas, Its a mix bag of beliefs that originated from Druids, Scandinavians, Egyptians and Romans..
Having said that there are also very few real christians and jews on this planet including orthodox, based on in how these groups comprehend and follow the bible... another irony...
The closest group in my opinion to real christianity in practice from my search are the early quakers.

- Atheism is not a religion. Atheism is the absence of belief.Melanie

@yurimon
No, atheism does not qualify as a religion. It has supporters, but no followers, because there's nothing to follow. There's nothing to follow as it does not teach (preach) anything, nor expect anyone to believe in anything in order to be a member. Without religion, everyone would be an atheist (just like every other species on the planet that isn't human).- but without the concept of God, there would be no religionmonospaced

atheism is a belief system, though not necessarily a religion. The primary dogma of this belief system is that there is no higher power. It is not merely that atheists chose not to participate in other belief systems, they actively deny all other belief systems are valid.
- You can say the same for people who don't believe in the Spaghetti monster.qTime
- just like religion but opposite side of the spectrumyurimon
- but you are participating in a beliefyurimon
- the belief that there's nothing to believe in... that's the belief? c'mon, it requires no effort and nothing mythicalmonospaced
- atheism doesn't require the blind faith of anything, unlike religion, that's the difference. we don't "believe" in mythsmonospaced
- system is the keyword, though athesim is a belief, its not a belief system to control sheepomg

^ i like your religious fervor in defense of atheism. Yes and your argument would correct if there were no people and just animals and no semantic way to express any concepts. but your argument is a what if there were no people scenario which is not true to the reality.
The way you're taught and propagandized on the concept of God and religion is much different from the origins or the relationship between man and his ancient perception.
it a hard comparison to make. However its from religion you have science. ironic..- If there were no people, are you saying there would also be no God?monospaced
- and please, don't think that only religious people can be fervorous, that's just not fairmonospaced
- No just the concept of atheism. we are talking semantics hereyurimon
- yes, but your point is that atheism requires religion. if nobody was taught religion, it wouldn't existmonospaced

@locustloth
I see where you're going, but that logic isn't sound. For example, the concept of a bare foot, or the existence of bare feet, isn't dependent on shoes or those who wear them. Before any shoes were invented, everyone had bare feet, wouldn't you agree? Therefore, the "belief" that there is "nothing to "believe in" doesn't require the existence of people who "believe" in something (i.e., God). The denial of another's concepts does not necessarily create a system of belief. In fact, it promotes no system, and it recognizes none.

Opposites work on the same spectrum. thats so what is the opposite of God?
example:
God |----------------------Middle... No God

Back on point kids... if you read the article it makes an interesting point that I have to agree with in some ways. Tradition aside, how am I supposed to feel about the temporary erection of a giant religious cross on a publicly-tax-funded structure that I drive across every day on my way to work?...
Where's my say in the matter? Why not the giant anatomically-correct statue of Olivia Munn like I suggested and had denied?
How much do you want to bet that there are situations like this that are passed by local gov's because it's a popular past-time yet disallow other opportunity to other religious groups.
If you read the comments as well it's apparent that there are believers an non-believers but mostly idiots. Times are a changin' and the belief-base in north america has shifted away from what once was.
There needs to be a little flexibility or people are gonna get cranky 'n crunky.
The end.

Are you afariest ? Or athingIjustmadeupist ?
Yes, you are.
And an infinite number of '-ists'.
But that's a product of how language is created and not reality itself.
To 'not' be something doesn't indicate that it's opposite is true. Not all things are true or have an opposite.Fucking duh.

If you think atheism is a religion, or a belief system, then let me as you a question:
Do you believe in Big Foot (or anything mythical)?
If you don't, then you MUST prescribe to THE belief system that doesn't believe in Sasquatches, because those people over there think they're real as fuck and would bet their lives on it. Welcome to atheism.
If you say yes, you look insane, because Big Foot obviously isn't real.
