Are we scared we’re gonna lose twitter?

Is that what all the rage is about?

It was shit before, why do we care all of a sudden?

Rich guy is getting poor, isn’t that what everyone wanted?

    • I still use twitter for following certain accounts for info/ news and lists but I'm not active at all.NBQ00
    • Twitter wasn't shit for the people using it. Twitter became the people's voice along it's growth. It then became inevitable...palimpsest
    • ... so then everybody felt they needed to have a voice on it. That's when the blue checkmarks came along.palimpsest
    • I'm not scared of losing Twitter. I'm just enjoying the show.palimpsest
    • It'll be funny when Trump starts tweeting again. I miss those days.zardoz
    • Imagine his commentary when Biden gets impeached.zardoz
    • He shudda asked for $4 then we wouldn't be in this predicament.palimpsest
    • Insecure people who have no imagination or insight might have a problem with Twitter going away. Normal people don’t care. Never havemonospaced
    • Nothing would make me happier in this situation than to see Twitter fall by the wayside for good.monospaced

Elon Musk has discussed putting all of Twitter behind a paywall.

So far Twitter Blue is a mess and might even lose money.

Twitter shipped a test feature last night that blocks people from changing their display name. Many users reporting.

I changed my name to Comic Sans (parody) – if it was not clear enough – and back again without a problem.

    • Are you blue ticked tho?Nairn
    • Ah! No...that's why. Totally forgot that detail.oey_oey
    • QBN has the solution, just display the username (id). Leave the name option on the user profile page only.palimpsest

It's a shame Twitter 's delisted as it'd be fun to make up a page that simply states its descending share price.

What a disaster of rushing without thinking. Seems like eLoN is being driven by emotion, not rational product thinking.

    Take this example thread:

A viral set of photos from the US election night triggers some Verified Blue twitter user called @zachallenphoto. He’s accusing the photojournalist of intentionally creating a false narrative. Anyway the photographer works for a newspaper and zachallen is some absolute nobody with only 45 Followers!

But now because the idiot of the group has the blue check, his words carry more weight because of the history of what the blue check meant. You actually have to dig in to both profiles to understand that one person here is a legitimate photojournalist and the verified blue user is some crackpot. And you’d find out there is no ill intent. It’s just the way Twitter creates captions for groups of photos.

Ok. So this is what eLoN wants, people digging into the details of who said what. But that’s not actually going to happen, because people don’t have time to investigate every fucking tweet that offends them. Even if they have the time, they won’t do it.

So really, if eLOn wanted equal ground, he would say “no more blue checks for anyone” but you can’t sell that. So he’s trying to fuck it up enough that everyone feels forced to buy a blue check. But they won’t.

Only the zachallen’s of the world will be the new customers for Twitter Blue. It’ll be the people who want to shout louder than everyone else even though they’ve done nothing to deserve it. The entitled assholes who talk over everyone at work or a party because they’re convinced that everyone would benefit from their superior insights.

Elon can’t see this coming because he lives in a different world than the rest of us. The billionaire businessman world. A good ceo and leader would take a couple weeks to listen to other perspectives before rushing to solutions. But not elon. He thinks he knows everything.

Expect more failures. Expect twitter to suck harder than ever.

    • i actually don't think Twitter will survive, in the end. I give it a year and a half, two years at a stretch.Continuity
    • Musk will grind it into the dirt, and more advertisers will jump ship.Continuity
    • It will limp along. But yes, advertisers are going to flee even faster. They don’t want chaos, they want predictable ROInb
    • And in this economy? In a recession, marketing budgets get slashed FIRST. Every dollar spent is careful and demands an ROI. Twitter is fucked.nb
    • My guess is that eLoN knows he fucked this deal up, and he’s scrambling. Doesn’t make much difference though. He can’t save a sinking shipnb
    • dude, he moved on to gray verified checks ... blue checks only mean someone paid for something meaninglessmonospaced
    • Btw, advertisers don’t give a fuck about free speech or whatever. Think about anyone you ever met that is a senior-level person in marketing.nb
    • Trump head a blue check. It just meant that he was Trump. That's what blue checks have always meant.
Now he's turning them into NFTs.
      palimpsest
    • Those selling them, buying them and buying into them are all idiots.palimpsest
    • People didn't believe Trump because he had a blue check, they believed him because he was saying what appealed to them.palimpsest
    • Trump isn’t the point. Ultra famous people like POTUS don’t need a blue check feature, really.nb
    • Let me ax you this:
In two opposing opinions from two unknown people do you think the user is gonna go the one with the blue check or the one they agree with?
      palimpsest
    • It’s not about “opinions”nb
    • If twitter was just opinions, we wouldn’t have to worry about it nearly as much. There’d be no blue checks or celebrity users or anythingnb
    • "Trump isn't the point."
      There's something we agree on.
      XD
      palimpsest
    • What is Twitter if not opinions?palimpsest
    • Yeah, Twitter is just people sharing opinions like they were worth listening to.monospaced
    • I'll change my question and replace the word opinions...palimpsest

Tesla is doomed. 10 year old cars. They are not repairable, they are like an iphone. Battery done 25 grand. etc. They are getting out of the game before the maintenance mayhem.

    • OKBonSeff
    • Not much progress in self-driving AIdrgs

    • where did you hear that? Not according to this chart https://autoimage.ca….hotroddy
    • ^ffs link brokenhotroddy
    • antique car collectors is not tesla demohotroddy
    • Not doomed, but as far as used market... not sure anyone wants to invest 25k into a worn in, problematic, out of warranty 'new' car you want to experience freshprophetone
    • Be real, you're looking for a used car... 10 yr old Teslas are going for unrealistic asking prices, in all cases you'll need to add 30k to just baseline the carprophetone
    • To move these cars they'll need to be priced at less than 20k probs, slightly better than a roller as about to not roll at allprophetone
    • They need to get to a point where the battery is easily serviceable and about 1/3 of the size and 1/5 of the costprophetone
    • Or like a bowling ball made of dark matter that you can just 'pop in' every 5 or so yearsprophetone
    • I heard it from Elon himself. He said it’s hard to break into the market without the dealer repair and parts revenue, and that allows big auto to sell cheapernb
    • Take your car in for some wires and spark plugs, it’ll be like $250nb
    • I don’t know, though. I just heard Elon say this. I don’t anything about the economics of automobilesnb
    • You also need to understand the liability of a dealership that would take a tesla as a trade and their shop is not set up to make it ready to sellBonSeff
    • Exactly, w/ an ICE car you can toss in new plugs, starter, brakes, battery etc easily, is back on road, flexible... Tesla requires 25k at once or is a boat anchorprophetone
    • Most dealers, shops are gonna be pretty hands off service-wise, they run that risk of losing high % of the money of older trade in Tesla if dies sitting on lotprophetone
    • The question I have been wondering is there are so many new car brands.. all with less than 5 years under their belt. seems crazy risky to commit to themautoflavour
    • Not doomed but a reality check: they will get lots of competition and they need to step up with quality and not just increase prices.NBQ00

    Copied from a tweet:

Starting today (Thursday) remote work is not an option at Twitter: all employees are expected to be 40 hours in the office. Only exceptions are for those physically unable to travel to an office or exceptions signed off by Elon.

The email telling people what will change from Thursday was sent out late Wednesday (just before midnight). At New Twitter, expect things to change last minute and get with it.

Ironically, in Europe, it’s already Thursday working hours.

The ignorance on Europe is especially telling. People got this email after starting their working day - working remote. They cannot reach managers to clarify if this applies for today: most managers are in the US, unreachable (they also need sleep!).

    - exceptions are signed off by Elon?!? Hahahaha you might think a CEO of multiple large tech companies would have more important things to do than HR paperwork. But I guess not, this is his priority today!

    - sent out right before midnight Thursday. Hope you figured out childcare, transportation, how to access the building, security protocols, etc all between the hours of midnight and 8am

    • Sounds to me like the remaining half of people still working there will be looking for an exit strategy from this kind of toxic environmentContinuity
