More migrants bussed to Kamala Harris’s home on Christmas Eve
Three buses of Central and South American migrants arrived to the vice-president’s home from Texas- when u r on the peak of scumbaggeryneverscared
- God Bless the GOPutopian
- more human trafficking by the GOPpango
- In freezing temps, no less, with the migrants dressed in t shirts. This has to be a crime.formed
- Texas is making a pretty good point. These people are pouring into the state needing help, and the Dems expect the state to simply feed and house them all.monospaced
- Policy is terrible and nobody is happy with the border situation. Dumping them somewhere else highlights the situation for the person who oversees policy.monospaced
- ^ perfect excuse to commit criminal offense :D also pepper in some human right violation.pango
- k everyone as you say - pouring in - has to the right to file for asylum...except u wanna swag some nazi hustle...neverscared
- comparing how many people feed and housed people in europe in 2015 onwards .. america is highly likeley in the promille level of that whan is doable..neverscared
- and they also started the wars in the region where the migrants came from partly...neverscared
- ohh i forgot u are not the richest country in the world... my mistake.. u cant help in an out of proportional way...neverscared
- I wanna what!? Don’t insult me. I have nothing to do with this.monospaced

- *yawn, I guess if you want to operate in hyperbole with your head in the sand, you can label me as defending itmonospaced
- of course I'm not, I clearly stated that I am an advocate of policy change that would remedy the situationmonospaced

- It's pretty telling that Trump stumped for McCarthy after the third failed vote.. I think, lost count. And his voice did not move the needle at all. SAD!garbage
- There's going to be a lot of former Trumpists that are now going to pretend like they never knew the guy.garbage
- The trump endorsement is the hard line for these handful of republicans. Even they can’t stomach that asshole even having a voice.monospaced
- Timely photo, can't wait for the Jan 6th memesPhanLo
- What are people even objecting to? I don't think they know, it's just mindless anti-establishmentis...yuekit
- They're objecting to his far, far-right leanings, conspiracy theories, nonsense, etc, which to ME is not the establishment.monospaced
- Haha no I mean what's going on right now with the House Republicansyuekit
- is that true mono? I've been trying to figure out what the beef with him is, so the 20 republicans are moderates? I thought they were Trumpers?_niko
- They are. They want more control and extremism. McCarthy is 'old school', the "Freedom Cock" are extreme nutjobs. They would burn the country down.formed
- It’s not entirely true. Some think he’s not right enough. Feh.monospaced
- I think they’re down to a small handful now from 20. Maybe under 5monospaced
- @mono true, there are a few legit never-Trumpers, but more and more former supporters are going to fake it.garbage
- A good case study would be the Liberty Project. Half of the people involved are people that supported Trump until he snubbed them for official positions.garbage
- AFAIK the holdouts, for the most part, just want chaos. One of the things they're asking for is to be able to have just one member challenge the speakersmathinc
- role. The rule right now requires that half of the house is needed to call for a vote on the speaker. The new one would put McCarthy in jeopardy every hour ofmathinc
- every day. I think they also want more of the wingnuts on committees.mathinc
- Yeah basically they are demanding changes to the rules that will allow them to pull the same stunt in the future, over debt limit etcyuekit
- Sentence that I didn't expect to be true: Boebert has been stumping for Jim Jordan, compares him to George Washington.garbage
- I had it backward. The holdouts are freedom caucus cocksuckers.monospaced

Kevin McCarthy's epic struggle to become House Speaker goes into third day
After losing a half-dozen consecutive votes for the post over two humiliating days, Mr. McCarthy privately agreed to more demands from the right-wing rebels that he had previously refused to countenance, including allowing a single lawmaker to force a snap vote at any time to oust him from the speakership.
The Republican leader had also committed to allowing the right-wing faction to handpick a third of the party’s members on the powerful Rules Committee, which controls what legislation reaches the floor and in what form, according to one of the people, who has been involved in the talks, as well as to opening spending bills to a freewheeling debate in which any lawmaker could propose changes, including those designed to scuttle or sink the measure.
Taken together, the concessions would weaken the speaker’s power considerably and make for an unwieldy environment in the House, where the slim Republican majority already promised to make it difficult to govern. And it was not clear the offer would be enough to corral the votes for Mr. McCarthy to prevail.

This crisis within the GOP might seem like a joke but it could have some very bad consequences.
Funny thing is, although establishment Republicans aren't happy now, this behavior really has its roots in the decision of McConnell to abandon unwritten rules that had been followed for decades and block everything Obama wanted to do. Just like Trump's attempt to overturn the election there are about a million ways the US system can be abused, with much of it relying on unspoken rules and practices.
But at some point grifter politicians like Matt Gaetz and Lauren whateverhername realized that any random asshole could also do the same thing. All it takes is a small number of people calling themselves radicals and refusing to vote. Voters in red districts won't punish them for this and are probably cheering it on.
Combine that with the Supreme Court legalizing "dark money" so that donations during a campaign can be laundered, and it's unclear what would stop a small group of corrupt people from scheming to crash the economy so they can make money on Dogecoin or something. Or worse, working for some billionaire or foreign power.
The fight to raise the debt limit was already difficult since Republicans decide to use this as a point of leverage (during Trump admin obviously they forgot about it and just raised the debt limit). How is this going to work when the GOP isn't able to control the members of its own caucus and you can't reason with them at all?
If the debt limit isn't raised the USA will default on its debt and this could be a major geopolitical event. There's also the question of how the US will continue funding Ukraine's ability to defend itself, or even pass budget to fund the government.
