Only used for wireframing, and assembling jpgs into a "what would it look like version".
The project managers now use it to outline the pages, keep notes, post links, and basically we now do all of our project management in one central place - cut down on TONS of emails and bullshit. We use Slack to chat.
Pretty useful tool, but I'm too old school to think about switching out of illustrator and the creative suite.

If you don't work in UX/UI, is there any benefit to using it instead of Adobe software?
- Seems like a decent iconography tool?canoe
- I'm having a hard time imagining how or why somebody not in UI/UX would use Figma.MondoMorphic
- ...e.g., there are tools like Miro that are better for collaborative uses, Adobe tools are better for graphic design, etc.MondoMorphic
- I was just curious because I come across job postings for Motion Design that mention Figma. I think the problem is that a lot of people looking for someone...CyBrainX
- mocking up UX/UI designs asks for a motion designer.CyBrainX
- Figjam is a bit like Miro but freeChimp
- Figjam will not be free starting Jan 1nb
- The only reason a non-UX/UI designer would consider Figma is for the collaborative aspect of it. If you want that, then great. Also much cheaper than Adob¢.nb
- Of course it's not fair to compare price. Adobe offers a ton of apps for that money.nb
- ^most of them useless?grafician
- It's a visual cloud based collaboration tool. I use it for more than UX/UI work absolutely.atomholc
- I used Adobe XD for prototyping three or four times. It was fun to use and easy to learn. At least for what i needed it to.oey_oey
- Some prototyping like transitions in a website like hover and clicks I did in AE.oey_oey
- But for this client's website, I'm really thinking in using Figma because the client wants something I can not agree upon...oey_oey
- and I need to show it to her somehow and I don't feel like doing it with the website itself and have all the work done and then go back. the budget is final.oey_oey

Just downloaded it.
Learning it will do me no harm on the contrary I guess so...

It's just like in the good old days: Illustrator vs Freehand vsCorel Draw
Now: XD vs Sketch vs Figma
Cough and spit!!

For you Figma users who do collaborative editing, does Figma allow any file member to update live prototypes?
We use XD (I'm also not switching to Figma) and one annoyance is that only the file owner (even when it's in the cloud and set to collab editing) can push prototype updates to the live link. I've got a coworker working from South Korea right now, and it's gotten frustrating for the project managers to rely on her having ownership of certain work that needs updates pushed, and she can't do it during most of our American work hours.
- As long as they can edit, I don't see why not.kaiyohtee
- Yes, Figma eliminates this sharing issue, that's really the primary differentiator, why Figjam is a popular collab tool as wellwhatthefunk
- ^What they said. If frames are setup as a prototype, any edit by anyone with edit access is automatically reflected in the prototype.duckseason
- Yep, and people can request edit access and you can grant anyone permissions to edit or add people. Figma is great.nb
- Adobe has announced "Creative Cloud Spaces" in beta right now but it is (I think) intended to allow this in XD.nb
- https://blog.adobe.c…nb
- Plus you can just publish & share presentation pages while keeping the in-progress pages private. We do this, a bit more work, but keeps work hidden from otherswhatthefunk
- The way XD does it was intentional, just to give you an idea of how far behind Adobe is! lulznb
- Figma even allows branching! But only on the Organization tier which can get expensive.nb
- The new branching feature is ace! Finally we're as organized as the coders LOL.zarkonite
- Thanks for all the info! Hopefully Adobe solves this problem soon.mg33

Back in school right now. 2 classes and both are all Figma based. It is a pretty great tool, but I have a lot to learn. Gonna be using youtube and class to get this stuff down.

- Plugins I use...grafician
- You might also enjoy Automator
https://automator.de…grafician - plugins = nightmare when osx updates, software updates, hardware updates.shapesalad
- because while the main software gets regular updates - plugins may or may not get updates. If you rely on one and it doesn't get updated = headache.shapesalad
- Figma and its plugins run in the browser...grafician
- only issue I got was re-installing all the plugins on new accounts (when needed)grafician
- How many do you use?Chimp
- Faker is pretty good.Chimp
- Spelll is a good one too for spell-checking a file.capn_ron
- I neeed that!Chimp
- How come you don’t use Traceit?maquito

Config (Figma's annual conference) is free and happening now.
- I attended a few sessions. Good stuff. First time I've seen a schedule cover just about every timezone on the planet. Super inclusive for an online conference.brandonp

- This is pretty huge - variants in some of our components were getting outta control.duckseason
- Thanks for that. I was wondering how properties has changes the variations.Chimp

Figma noob question - can you flow text between text boxes like you can in adobe apps?
- Not that I know of. Figma is not great at typesetting actual contentnb
- yeah, that's becoming apparent. Thanks.Fax_Benson
- seems like a relatively easy feature add that would appeal to manyFax_Benson
- You can check the official plug-in Community, there may be something that works for younb

i've been dragged kicking and screaming into the figma era as well.
i have two questines:
what does it mean when i'm asked to package up a job?
how does zeplin work?- Years ago, Zeplin was used along side Sketch to give basic developer specs. It was largely made obsolete by Figma’s code panelnb
- Recently, I have seen Zeplin ads that claims they have pivoted to work with Figma. However, I don’t know any designers that uses Zeplin with Figma.nb
- cheers, will delete the account. it did seem utterly pointless, but i assumed that's because i'm an old tosser who doesn't understand the new shithans_glib
- any advice on this "packaging" request? i've just made a new file with the final versions in ithans_glib
- That’s a big question with lots of different answers depending on what you’re designing and what’s on the other side of the handoffnb
- Is it a website? App? Design system library? Iconset? Even for a just an app project there are various opinions on the best way to transfer ownershipnb
- nb7
Reposting because this is so well organized for experienced designers who are new to Figma and just need the straight dope on Figma

So nice of Adobe to buy Figma. Looking forward to the next app that only will be bought by Adobe.

At my agency, we exclusively use XD for all digital web projects, which I've enjoyed for it's simplicity, collaboration capabilities, and ability to mentor and teach junior designers a new tool.
I've only used Figma when clients have invited me to their files. For those of you who use Figma, what are the "OMG this feature is awesome" features?
Because I'm really curious about any specific advantages Figma has, features XD doesn't have, etc. that could make their way into XD.
I love XD, despite it's downsides, all of which I have listed in an email to our rep to see what future updates will change those.
For example:
- Only the file owner (when using CC / cloud) can create and publish prototypes. That ends up being me because all UX projects start with me. If I'm not around (was on vacation recently and had to take my work laptop with because I knew I'd have to publish updates once the team was done) nobody else can publish updates.
- When using character styles, I want to see that character style highlighted in the left toolbar when I have selected text in an artboard. I am a stickler for my designers using character styles and never one-off styling text. So, it sucks when you can't see what style is in use. It's such a no-brainer feature.
- I would KILL for scroll triggers and deeper Lottie animation integration. It's great they have Lottie and video integration now, but to show clients how scrolling would trigger animations, it sucks to only be able to do that in voice-over during presentations.Any thoughts? What could you not live without in Figma that XD doesn't have at the moment?
- More like and axe vs. scalpel situation...grafician
- Simple overrides. If you bring in a button from an XD library, you have to change the text in all states. You don't in Figma.aliastime
- Also, through a plugin, we're getting more design token exports like border styles, radius, padding, etc.aliastime
- In Figma, character styles are displayed. For scrolling, we're using the Mouse enter trigger. Not perfect, but demos ok. And we Auto layout almost everything.aliastime
- I recently started using XD's stacks feature, and I'm kicking myself for not using it sooner.mg33
- XD is easy to use, but FFS why haven't they added such basic things like text editing keyboard shortcuts like all other Adobe programs?Luda
- ^ And Dark Modemg33

- TFW not even Adobe wants to buy younb
- I worked with XD only three times but I was really impressed how easy and versatile it was.oey_oey
- ouch lol_niko
- I used XD a couple of times and it surprised me it didn’t have basic features like adding more than one page.Chimp
- What do you mean more than one page? Of course you can_niko
- The last time I tried it you could have multiple art boards but not pages. https://community.ad…Chimp
