Still voting for Weekend at Biden’s

  • yuekit1

The easiest thing possible would be for Kamala Harris to take over. Get one of the popular Dem governors to be her VP such as the governor of Kentucky, Andy Beshear.

How is this not better than forcing people to vote for an 81 year old who will turn 82 right after the election? Two youngish, charismatic 50 something candidates against old man Trump.

    • Sorry correction Beshear is only 46yuekit
    • Unfortunately, most American women won’t vote for a woman. Even against Trump, they won’t do it.nb
    • Beshear would be a dream, but Biden has recently said he won't stand down. He's running the RBG route.garbage
    • are Americans ready to vote for a black woman? Or I guess those who are not are voting Trump already anyway, but can she bring more or less votes than Biden?HAL9001
    • That said the World would thank you, US, if that ever happen! It would be greatHAL9001
    • I still think Biden is going to drop out. He can't recover from that debate. Kamala is about 2% lower in swing state polls. One good debate and/or a prison termCyBrainX
    • ...for Trump would make up that difference. I think the change would excite the base and help with turnout.CyBrainX
    • It's literally the year 2024 and Americans would rather vote for an aging fascist criminal than a woman? In that case I guess they deserve to live under fascismyuekit
    • We'll even throw them a bone by putting a white guy on the ticket for DEI reasons.yuekit
    • Kamala? Ya, I don’t think so. There’s a reason they’ve kept her hidden away for the past 3 yearsGnash
    • Probably because Biden is afraid she'll become more popular than him :) Don't underestimate the degree to which there are rivalries within the same government.yuekit
    • @yuekit "They" do deserve it. the minority that voted for Trump in 2016 and whoever supports him now. That's still less than half of us. The rest of us were...CyBrainX
    • If you want to feel old...it's been 16 years since Barack Obama was elected. And we're still not ready to vote for a woman?yuekit
    • I'd vote for a bloody tampon instead of Trump.CyBrainX
    • I mean, I'd vote for a cop over Trump.garbage
    • If a good candidate was offered, man or woman, people would vote for them. Kamala’s lack of ability (or vote-ability) has zero to do with being a woman.Gnash
    • But it’s an easy sound-bite so I see why you stick to itGnash
    • Or maybe we were just responding to the comments above that said America won't vote for a woman.yuekit
    • I agree with you she's not the best politician but I'd happily take her over Biden at this point.yuekit
  • PonyBoy3

    • Biden must leave and he must do it quick. People jaded from politics would probably be interested again with a younger candidate.HAL9001
    • ^ Yes, but this cover is very Fox News for not also showing Trump's dirty diaper next to that walker. Unless, the walker is supposed to represent Trump too.CyBrainX
  • imbecile5

Do I want a guy that sometimes stutters or someone who sometimes rapes children as my president?

Stutter for life. Sad this is a conundrum for some people.

    • Sigh. Can every single thing be boiled down to a binary for you?nb
    • Given the nature of binary and the fact there are only two options to choose from, here we are.imbecile
    • If you want to vote for Biden’s policy and Trump’s charisma while ignoring Trump’s crimes and Biden’s lack of zeal, then you don’t understand elections.imbecile
    • If you elect a stupid fascist over a mentally fading but decent person, you don't understand a lot more than just elections.CyBrainX
    • Is the election later today?nb
    • is trump going to unrape a victim?imbecile
    • He's going to rape and pillage everything in his path. He's above the law.CyBrainX
  • yuekit3

I think the core problem is that many Americans conflate Biden being old and incoherent with him being unable to competently run the country. That may be unfair since in reality the USA isn't actually a dictatorship run by one guy but good luck explaining that to your average American.

And Biden is not going to get any younger or more coherent, making it a serious challenge for him to change anyone's mind. In fact he's limited in doing the typical things a candidate would do to improve his popularity. He hasn't even given an interview yet since the debate.

    • So without a doubt he's better than Trump on the merits but how do you win the election?yuekit
    • He has powers like no other human:
veto power, direct command of military, exec. order power (and ability to remove them), pardon and reprievement power etc
      PonyBoy
    • AND... using your logic... "the USA isn't actually a dictatorship" — Why fear Trump then?
      <3
      PonyBoy
    • Get all that shit out of your heads. He is called 'the most powerful man on the planet' for a reason.
Swap him the fuck out FAST.
      PonyBoy
    • "Why fear Trump then?" Because the people around Trump are just as bad if not worse.yuekit
    • But yeah you're not wrong, it could be a major issue on the substance too. I'm just talking about why it's so damaging politically.yuekit
    • No US president was ever the most powerful man on earth. That's just the American "exceptionalism" talking. People like Putin have more power since they...CyBrainX
    • run a country as an autocrat.CyBrainX
    • Yes, get hung up on your personal angst w/fairly accurate terminology... Go Biden I guess...PonyBoy
    • Yeah go Biden...go away :) I want him gone too. What I was trying to say is I don't think the things people are most concerned about, like inflation, have muchyuekit
    • to do with Biden's age, but people will probably make that connection anyway.yuekit
    • No one has more power and influence over the world than the US President. Simple truth. It’s literally the most important job in the worldnb
    • Most Americans don’t understand why that’s a a true statement. But their ignorance doesn’t make it untrue.nb
    • But that's just not true. Do you think Biden still wants an electoral college, Trump being named king by the Supreme Court, The GOP House voting down his...CyBrainX
    • immigration bill, etc. Putin and Shih don't have these problems. They don't even have to worry about elections.CyBrainX
    • Even with national security issues, it's often the top advisors who are handling this rather than the president. The Chief of Staff and National Securityyuekit
    • Advisor (who most Americans couldn't name if you held a gun to their head) handle much of the day to day decision making. Doesn't mean the president isn'tyuekit
    • important or that you want an 80 something president, but it's definitely not just one person.yuekit

Democrats start moving to Harris as Biden digs in

    https://edition.cnn.com/2024/07/…

A more open race, these top Democrats hope, would be for Harris’ running mate, with a focus on leading Democratic governors. North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear are the most discussed; the list also includes Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania, J.B. Pritzker of Illinois and Tim Walz of Minnesota.

    • Most hilarious thing is that you think another centrist Democratic Party apparatchic scumbag is the answer to your prayers lolKhurram
    • You support Donald Trump. Biden defeated your guy and passed the biggest investment in renewable energy of all time so of course he was worth supporting.yuekit
    • But all good things come to an end. I'm not attached to any one politician, certainly not Biden.yuekit

Why are people still sticking with Biden? I don’t get it. Here is a rationale to get a new dem candidate:

    1. Anti-Trump voters will vote for literally any candidate. We know this for a fact. The most common argument you hear from democrats for Biden is that we simply cannot risk Trump in office again.

    2. Trump won in part because some voters felt like giving the billionaire outsider a chance. Some portion of Trump voters in past elections will not vote for him again. America tends to “move on” from candidates. A few % points drop in Trump support will win this thing.

    3. A new candidate will beat Trump. This means a kind of psychological “reset” for the politics of the country. What I mean is, most presidents serve two terms. A new candidate now means dems can lock in 8 years instead of 4. This increases the odds of appointing judges and gives more time to govern.

Trump running again was a gift to Democrats! But democrats are such pussies that they don’t see it and instead they panic. Panic led them to select Biden again. It’s a mistake.

    • This is exactly how I see it. But turns out there's a lot of loyalty to Biden out there, more than I expected.yuekit
    • I'm starting to think Americans are just contrarians about everything...it's like that Rage Against the Machine song "fuck you I won't do what you tell me"yuekit
    • So Trump gets convicted...his numbers go up. Biden has a stroke on stage...people rally around him. A poll just came out showing Biden surging in the swingyuekit

Not to mention the simple fact that Biden is not competent to lead as president. HE IS NOT FIT FOR THE JOB. Oh, you say he just had a “bad night” at the debate? The president needs to be “on” all the time. He needs to handle international travel and being sharp and cunning during meetings with other leaders on their turf (ie time zone). He may need to be up all night to make tactical decisions for the military. “I had a bad night” is simply not an excuse. We can’t afford a president who can’t be ready when we need him, all the time.

President of the US is a difficult job. Mentally and physically. You’ve all seen the “before and after” photos of presidents. They all look haggard by the end. That kind of physical aging doesn’t happen to CEOs, even in high-stress companies. President is one of the most demanding jobs an executive could hold. It is fucking hard. Biden can barely get through television interviews from friendly networks.

What the fuck are we doing.

    • ^ and he needs to be able to do this consistently, four years from nownb
    • Couldn't agree more. What the fuck are we doing?dbloc

The French election is a bullish signal for replacing Biden IMO. The left surprised everyone by tearing up the rule book and forming an ad hoc alliance and managed to defeat the far right.

So far Democrats are way too timid but similar to how Brexit predicted the Trump victory in 2016 this could be a sign of where things are headed.

  • _niko2

Americans still voting for Biden have realized it takes a team to run a country not a demagogue and fake-ass dictator wannabe.

The president is not the best economist, not the best lawmaker, not the best health officer, and definitely not the best military leader.

Commander in chief? you think chicken-shit Donny shin-splints who thinks soldiers are losers and suckers is a commander in chief of anything?

Even in business he's the most useless CEO of all time. fucking joke.

I'd rather vote for weekend at Biden's any day.

    • Yes we all know trump is worse. That has nothing to do with selecting a dem candidatenb
    • Get a new candidate while you can. It’s obvious you’d all vote for literally anyone as long as it isn’t trumpnb
